Try Hockey For Free Day Coming to the Valley Event Center Nov. 7 HiLine Youth Hockey invites boys and girls to the Valley Event Center on Saturday, Nov. 7 for a Try Hockey For Free clinic as part of Come Play Hockey Month. Starting at 1:00 p.m., local youth, ages 4 to 9, are encouraged to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basic skills in a fun, safe environment. “We look forward to welcoming families to the Valley Event Center to try our great sport of ice hockey” said Pat Braaten. “Our goal is for these families to enjoy watching their kids learn new skills with big smiles on their faces.” USA Hockey’s Try Hockey program, with the support of the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, among others, is designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport. In addition to presenting sponsor KraftHeinz, Total Hockey and Liberty Mutual Insurance are official sponsors of Try Hockey For Free Days. USA Hockey has close to 500 locations offering this unique opportunity to kids nationwide. To register for this Try Hockey For Free event, please visit www.TryHockeyForFree.com. In case of emergency Saturday... Installation of an emergency generator will be taking place at the Valley County Courthouse this Saturday, October 24th from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As a result of this, the Valley County Sheriff ’s Department will be losing part of its dispatch service, but Phillips County will be handling any emergency calls. Any 911 call will go to Phillips County and be channeled back to Valley County. If someone calls 228-4333 and doesn’t get an answer, please call 263-4333 or 263-4334. “We’ll still have all of our emergency services in effect,” Sheriff Glen Meier stressed, “and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.”

Shannie bags a nice one!Shanice Lagerquist of Glasgow was all smiles as she was one of the kids that got in on the Youth Only Hunt last Thursday and Friday. Hunting on her Grandpa Lawrence’s ranch south of Glentana, one shot with her .243 downed this dandy 5x5 muley. Needless to say, Grandpa Steve was mighty proud of her first-ever buck!

A Squirrel-y Situation There were four churches and a synagogue in a small Ohio town: a Presbyterian church, a Baptist church, a Methodist church, a Catholic church and a Jewish synagogue. Each church and the synagogue had a problem with squirrels. The Presbyterian church called a meeting to decide what to do about their squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn’t interfere with God’s divine will. At the Baptist church the squirrels had taken an interest in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a water slide on the baptistery and let the squirrels drown themselves. The squirrels liked the slide and, unfortunately, knew instinctively how to swim so twice as many squirrels showed up the following week. The Methodist church decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God’s creatures. So, they humanely trapped their squirrels and set them free near the Baptist Church . Two weeks later the squirrels were back when the Baptists took down the water slide. But the Catholic Church came up with a very creative strategy. They baptized all the squirrels and consecrated them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter. Not much was heard from the Jewish synagogue, but it’s rumored that they took one squirrel and circumcised him and they haven’t seen a squirrel on their property since.
