LAS VEGAS — Don’t expect eligibility rules to change for the lucrative South Point Senior Shoot-out bowling tournament in Las Vegas in November.

A lot of bowlers are missing out.And they probably don’t even realize it.The West Coast Senior Tour, a club of top senior bowlers primarily from California

and Nevada, is returning to the Southland this weekend for a string of four tournaments.League bowlers are eligible for WCST events, provided they’re at least 60 years old.

But they rarely take advantage of the opportunity. No doubt, it can be costly – the entry fee can run almost $200. But it’s possible the

tournament can be one of those take-your-breath-away events that can be treasured for a long time.

I know firsthand about the thrill of bowling with – and against – players who put together six strikes as easily as tying one’s shoes. About two-and-a-half years ago, I com-peted in a WCST event in Mission Hills and I couldn’t have been more excited.

I felt as if I was joining the Dodgers and sharing the diamond with players like third baseman Ron Cey, shortstop Bill Russell, second baseman Davey Lopes and first base-man Steve Garvey (I must have been playing short-center, like on a softball team.)

And there I was – at Mission Hills Bowl – sporting my lofty 152 average. Not too far away from me was United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famer Robin Romeo, who was shooting rockets down the lanes with impeccable form.

I was part of a three-man group that bowled over two lanes. Our team included even-tual champion John Sowell, a left-hander who when he’s in a groove is as good as any pro bowler alive.

And this was a day when Sowell was at his best. The left-hander from Vista, Calif., not only hooked virtually every shot into the pocket,

but he took time to converse with me, provide pointers and encourage me. All the while, he’s playing for a $725 first-place prize – which he won in a thrilling duel in the finals with favorite Kevin Gannon.

When Sowell won, I was probably more excited than he was because I had bowled alongside a top bowler who happened to be the same age and eventually became a good friend.

Oh, then there’s the bowling. How often do you bowl eight games at one shot? Can you make it through?

This tournament – whose rules at that time permitted bowlers 50 and up – started in the morning with an eight-game set for qualifying. The top four bowlers advanced to the finals.

I had never bowled eight games in a day, but I huffed-and-puffed my way through the qualifying round and even bowled a 199 in my sixth game. For the record, I also chipped in with a sorry 108 in my third game and finished the qualifying session with a 149 aver-age.

By contrast, Rod Tramp of Porterville posted the highest qualifying score, averaging a nifty 240.5. Sowell was second at 235.

Incidentally, WCST etiquette rules are quite different during tournament play, com-pared to leagues. I had more than one not-so-friendly look sent my way as I apparently didn’t show the right amount of courtesy to two lanes of bowlers on my left and two lanes of bowlers on my right.

But I survived. And when the final statistics came out for qualifying, I actually made the standings. I was listed deep in the bottom of the heap.

Still, it was fun. It’s something that 60-and-older league bowlers should consider doing the next time a

WCST event is in the neighborhood. And there just happens to be a handful of WCST tournaments planned for the South-

land just around the corner. The West Coast Senior Tour competed in Las Vegas on March 5 and will return to

California with an event March 12 at Canyon Lanes in Cabazon. Afterwards, the WCST’s next three events will be at Linbrook Bowl in Anaheim on April 16; at Del Rosa Lanes in San Bernardino on May 21; & Winnetka Bowl on June 11.

If you’re the right age and want to challenge some pretty tough bowlers, give it a shot. For information, give Dick Sanders, the tour’s owner and director, a call at 760-363-6064.

late in the tournament before finishing in 5th. The lead changed hands several times before Barefoot came out on top. While the lead was bouncing around, the low to cash number stayed the same for 5 of the 8 games, just the bowlers holding down that spot changed. Rounding out the top 5 was Steve Warren in 2nd, Bobby Campagnale in 3rd, and Nick Alford in 4th.

The tournament staff would like to thank Bill Boudreau and Amber McCarthy and the fine staff at Pins & Pockets for hosting the event, as well as Darron Peters and Alan Mojado of Rollin’ Rock Pro Shop for sponsoring the event. The tournament staff would also like to thank all the bowlers for coming out and participating on this wet weekend. Thank you again for coming out and supporting our local scratch tournaments.

The next tournament is tentatively scheduled for April 10 right back here at Pins & Pockets. It will be a ONE BALL CHALLNGE event. Entry fee will be $85, with $500 on top for first place. Please keep an eye out in the Bowling News and on Facebook for all the details.

What a way to end it.Michele Carter of San Diego smoked a perfect game in

the championship match of the stepladder finals to punctu-ate her victory in the 26th National Golden Ladies Clas-sic.

Carter needed to be plenty good in the final because top-seeded Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., pro-vided stiff resistance before falling, 300-256, last Thurs-day at the Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

The prestigious four-day Senior tournament was open to eligible women aged 50 and above. Although the event was not deemed a women’s Senior tournament major this year (unlike the past), it was still hotly contested. A total of 105 bowlers turned out, including such United States Bowling Congress Hall of Famers as Johnson, Linda Kel-ly, Sandy Postma, Robin Romeo and Vesma Grinfelds.

Carter had just turned 50 in January and she celebrated by “running the table” in the stepladder finals. Carter was seeded fifth and she proceeded to mow down the competition with four victories.

Carter scored a 239-190 victory over fourth-seeded Rene Fleming of Oklahoma City in the opening game of the step-ladder finals. Then Carter outscored third-seeded Sharon Powers of Lakewood, Colo., 249-223, in Game 2.

Carter eased to a 227-182 victory over second-seeded Jeanne Naccarato in Game 3, setting the stage for her match with Johnson, the only lefty in the stepladder finals.

Johnson also was the top seed in the previous three Golden Ladies tournaments, but she had come out victorious only in 2013. She lost to Powers in 2014 and Paula Vidad last year.

Carter took control against Johnson from the outset. After posting spares in her first two frames, Johnson fell behind by 32 pins and never got an opening to recover.

Still, Johnson showed she wasn’t going down without a fight. She logged a triple (three strikes in a row) beginning the third frame and she rolled a five-bagger beginning the seventh frame.

Johnson’s stellar effort mattered little as Carter never let up, finishing with a blazing 253.8 average in her four stepladder games. Carter earned $2,100 for the victory and added $200 for bowling a perfect game in the steplad-der portion.

Carter’s perfect game was well-orchestrated; she hit the pocket squarely on each of her 12 shots. In fact, Cart-er bowled four “clean” games in the stepladder finals – meaning she didn’t have an open frame.

“Believe it or not, I didn’t get nervous-nervous until about the ninth frame of my last game,” Carter said. “I had a calm about me because I had beaten all my expectations. The stars lined up and it just happened to be my day.” Carter entered the event with limited tournament experience. A year ago, she won the San Diego city tournament in the wom-en’s division. She also had claimed a California state women’s singles title and a San Diego Queens championship.

Still, Carter said she considered herself “just a league bowler and not much else.”That may have worked to her advantage, she said. “I felt I was a bit of an underdog,” Carter said. “No one knew me

or knew much about me. So it may have been to my advantage. I really went into it with the attitude that I’d just see how things would fall and whether I could make it through all the games.”

For the four days, Carter bowled 37 games. “It was just surreal,” she said. “It felt like an out-of-body experience. I just tried to take it one shot at a time and not look out at the crowd.” Carter said her perfect game was her first in a “couple of years.” She has bowled about 10 300s and three 800 series, including an 823 a year ago.

She said she entered the tournament to see if she could beat all the Hall of Famers. As it turned out, she defeated Romeo and Johnson in match play. So she wound up beating Johnson twice in the tournament.

As for her final match, Carter said Johnson “gave it all she had. She shot a 256, not a 156. She bowled phenomenally. It just happened that the stars aligned for me.”

Like Carter, Naccarato bowled a perfect game. Additionally, Naccarato blistered a sparkling 804 series in the second round of match play.

Johnson took home $1,100 for finishing second. Naccarato won $770, Powers $670 and Fleming $600.Kristy Whitcher ($500) placed sixth, Terri Ward ($445) seventh, Pam Pancoast ($440) eighth, Kelly ($435) ninth and

Tori Romeo-Carter ($430) 10th. Romeo-Carter’s sister, Robin Romeo, finished 15th and won $405.Two Super Seniors (60 and over) made the final 18 in the Senior division. They were Char Hammel and Kelly. Ham-

mel placed 11th and won $425.Sarah Knowland of Australia won the Super Senior division title. After a 15-game

qualifying session, Knowland won a 12-game round-robin tournament to claim the $1,000 top prize. Postma was second and won $700, Heidi Pagenkopt took third and earned $640, Marci Williams claimed fourth and won $530 and Pam Lawrence finished fifth and earned $500.

Vidad won the Second Chance tournament – a matchup of bowlers who did not cash in the main event and stuck around for another competition. Vidad was the high scorer over five games, finishing with a scorching 1,236 total, an average of 247.2.

By winning last year’s Golden Ladies tournament title, Vidad become the first woman to win the Senior bowling circuit’s triple crown. She also had won the USBC Senior Queens championship in 2011 and back-to-back Senior U.S. Open titles in 2013 and 2014.

tractive for bowlers because the total payout may exceed $100,000. The event, which could lure as many as 140 competitors across the country, is sanctioned by the United States Bowling Congress.

Forkel, a Henderson, Nev., resident, said last month: “On paper, the tournament sounds terrific – but don’t elim-inate bowlers who have won three titles 20-30 years ago. What they’re saying is that it’s OK to have good bowl-ers in the tournaments. But the really good bowlers can’t come. I have five national tournaments and I can’t come.

“Talk about a kick in the stomach. This aggravates me. It shows bowling is so distorted. . . It’s not what competi-tion is all about.”

Forkel won PBA national titles in 1999, 1996 and 1993 and two in 1992, Forkel showed in June that he’s still at the top of his game by finishing second to Weber in the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open in Las Vegas.

Mohr, the PBA Senior Tour player of the year in 2009 and 2011, said he sympathized with Forkel’s complaints. Like Forkel, he’s an active bowler in the PBA50 circuit. In fact, Forkel and Mohr recently competed on the same team at the Southern Nevada USBC Championships. Neither bowler discussed the Shootout’s eligibility requirement, said Mohr, as they were both focused on their games.

“My concerns as tournament director aren’t the same as the competitors,” Mohr said. “As a competitor, I under-stand completely where [Eric] is coming from. There is no personal animus between Eric and me. It’s just about the success of the event.”

Mohr said it’s his job to attract at least 90 quality bowl-ers to the tournament so the event can be successful. Each bowler will pay $750 for the entry fee.

Mohr also addressed Forkel’s complaint about the tour-nament’s arbitrariness of specifying “three’’ PBA national titles as the cutoff. Mohr said that figure was what he considered the best “break point” for encouraging bowlers to participate in the tournament and discouraging players from entering.

He settled on three after downloading a list of 410 play-ers from PBA.com who have won at least one PBA or se-nior PBA event. Then he put the names on a spreadsheet and made his calculations.

Mohr said that PBA50 players often look at the rosters of entrants and make decisions on whether they want to take part based on their chances of winning money. “Guys will look at the roster and see 15 guys they’ll know will make the top 32 and the other 100 [players] will bowl for the other 17 [money] spots.”

Forkel was none too accepting of Mohr’s explanations. “I still think it’s BS and all those people he talks about who may not enter because of the star players are the same ones who WILL bowl at the Senior U.S. Open and the Masters. So sorry, I think it’s a lame excuse and a poor decision.”

Reaction from bowlers about the eligibility controversy has been mixed. Many players stated their opinions but asked that their names not be used.

Robert Edwards, a longtime bowler and bowling center manager, posted his views on Facebook. Wrote Edwards: “I have known Eric since before his fledgling days on the tour. He worked hard every day and had setback after set-back. He came back every time and worked harder than before to improve his game. Eric deserves better than this, but the tournament director chose the rules and everyone has to abide by them. It just stinks that when you get this good, rules are set up so you can’t compete. What is the winner really winning if all of the best can’t enter the tour-nament?”

Mohr said there was “no chance” that the 2016 Shoot-out tournament rules would change this time around. “As we put the rules together, I think this is a reasonable com-promise between a full-fledged PBA event and a high-roll-er-type true amateur megabucks event,” said Mohr, who would like to make this tournament an annual “can’t-miss” Las Vegas event.

Mohr, who recently turned 60, said that it made no dif-ference that Forkel was a left-hander. Oftentimes, lefties have proved more successful than their right-handed coun-terparts in tournament play. “I’m not concerned about the number of left-handers,” Mohr said. “If we get 100 left-handers to turn out, I’ll be happy.”

Mohr also addressed Forkel’s complaint that players could miss out on a memorable lifetime achievement by not having the opportunity to defeat a Walter Ray or a We-ber. Mohr said that was a “valid argument.” But he added that his concerns are “entries in the tournament” and that he didn’t think anyone would enter the event “because they think they’re going to beat Walter Ray.”

On the other hand, Mohr said, players might be hesi-tant about entering the event if multiple PBA Hall of Fame members were competing.

The Senior Shootout tournament is scheduled for Nov. 13-18 at the South Point Bowling Plaza. Overall, Mohr

expects the split between PBA members and non-members competing in the tournament to be pretty even. Mohr said there was no doubt that the three-title rule will be discussed once the event is played out. “We’ll see if that’s one of the things that need to be addressed,” Mohr said. “Bowlers deserve and expect nothing less than that.”

SAN BERNARDINO — HAPPY DAYS! GREAT TIMES! LOTS OF FUN! All terms which describe the second quarterly “Club” Mixed Doubles Tourney at Del Rosa Lanes. Everyone came happy and most left happy. The bowlers were there to have fun and they got their money’s worth of fun.

Why so much fun? First, the prize fund was great. Sec-ond, the format was competitive and third, the shot was scorible. Scoring is fun.

When bowlers know that the prize fund is sizable and that the teams are comprised fairly they are happy. Ev-eryone is happy with this tourney’s team lineups because the teams were assembled randomly. The women selected their partners by picking their partner’s name from a hat. Finally, when a bowling center puts out a playable shot everyone scores and everyone is happy. Losing is a pill easier to swallow when you bowl well.

The quarterly “Club” Mixed Doubles Tournament is conducted for members of the SOCAL Men’s and Wom-en’s Clubs. Only members can participate.

This quarters winning team was the duo of Michael Gray and Therese Weiler. Both bowled super with Gray averag-ing over 250 (scratch) and Weiler averaging 210 (scratch). The Top Five finishers and their handicap scores are:

team score

1. Therese Weiler & Michael Gray 2089 2. Sherri Boyer & Larry Stewart 1928

3. Mary Andruczyk & Stoney Baker 1828

4. Toni Futch & Jerome Forch 1827

5. Marge Boyce & Patrick Plumley 1822

Congratulations to our champions and thanks to the BOWLING NEWS for supporting California bowlers.

BOWLING NEWSPage 8 march 10, 2016

SAN JOSE, CA — When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are….this familiar song unfolds the dream that became reality last month when Ed Godbout received a call from PBA Commissioner Tom Clark that he had been selected to receive the 2015 Tony Reyes Memorial Community Service Award! Pack your bags! You’re going to Shawnee, OK, next week!! Godbout reflected on his reaction from getting that call, “All I remember was crying and shaking and thanking him over and over again! I couldn’t believe someone like me could ever achieve something this big after my whole life teachers and other people said I would never amount to anything!!” Godbout’s whirl-wind adventure was about to begin as he and his wife, Annie, were about to embark on a journey that many can only dream about ever happening to them. In less than a week they had to adjust their schedule, Ed had to be fitted for a tux, and they were whisked away to be VIP’s at the annual PBA Hall of Fame banquet.

Flashback to the beginning of Ed Godbout’s bowling career and involvement with the sport of bowling that brought him to the forefront to be considered for this honor. Ed was born in Sunnyvale, CA, 47 years ago. He started bowling at the age of 16 at Mel’s Bowl in Redwood City. He was born into a bowling family as both his parents bowled in leagues his entire upbringing. Ed, himself, bowled from age 16 on but took off about 10 years to raise his family and returned to the sport in 2006. A truck driver for the last 18 years, he bowls 3 leagues every winter and 2 in the summer carrying close to a 200 average, and is a PBA member. He’s had four 300’s and one 299 with a career high series of 766. Interestingly, his first two 300’s were within 24 hours of each other and on two different seasons at the National Bowling Stadium!

To help round out his bowling experience, he worked at Boardwalk Bowl in Santa Cruz for five years putting in time for the positions of working the front desk, mechanic and coach. Godbout had admiration for the late Tony Reyes, Mike Machuga, Amleto Monacelli and many others but his attraction to Reyes brought him to bowl at Tony’s center, 4th Street Bowl in San Jose in the winter of 2011. When he learned that Tony owned the pro shop at 4th Street, he made it a point to meet him and see if he could “get him to talk to my juniors at Boardwalk Bowl.” Godbout said, “I was scared at first, but found out he was a very cool dude.” Although Godbout was only able to get to know Reyes for a short time prior to his death, Ed said Tony left him with this bit of advice: “Always remember where you came from and it’s all about the kids, not the fame.” Then together, the two formed the 4th Street Bowl junior bowling program.

Flash forward to the present and the PBA Hall of Fame banquet in Shawnee, OK, Godbout was experiencing also a first-time to visit OK. He shared that he liked OK, “everyone there was very nice and I will go back. I grew up in Colorado so I felt like I was back home again.” The Godbout’s were only there for one full day so Mon., Feb. 1, they started that morning by going to the bowl to watch the TOC practice and met up with a good friend, Cecil Scarboro, who was nice enough to take both Ed and Annie all around to meet everyone on tour and to go check out the tour trailers and all the behind-the-scenes areas.

That night was the banquet. VIP Ed was seated at a table right next to Denny Schreiner and Pete Couture. And what a night! Ed was in awe, “just how great everyone was….my wife and I were standing around and Kelly Kulick came up to us and said, ‘You look bored, let’s talk!’ (We met her earlier that day). Then after the Banquet was over, getting pictures with everyone and having Walter Ray Jr. come up to me and congratulate me was probably the best thing along with dinner Sunday seeing Sean Rash and Chuck Gardner and as we were walking out Chuck and Sean both telling me they were happy to see I got the Award.” Can you even imagine?

I’m sure we will hear more and get further insight into this great night when we tune in to Phantom Radio the week starting Wed., Mar. 9, as Ed Godbout is the special guest. Log onto phantomradioshow.blogspot.com.--

And what a resume Ed Godbout is creating for himself. He is the founder of the Tony Reyes Memorial Jr./Adult Doubles Scholarship tournament that is held early every January and 2017 will mark the 4th annual where he hopes to break the 300 mark for participants. He is also the founder of the Tony Reyes Memorial Scholarship for NorCal YBA which helps youth go to college as well as helps everyone understand what type of person the late Tony Reyes was. Be-cause of his intent determination to start both of these, Godbout was named the first recipient of the NorCal Tony Reyes Award--For the Love of the Game Not the Fame in 2013.

Godbout would like to thank Tom Clark, Janay Haggerty, Kirk Von Kruger and his nominator, Bette Addington. “I’m honored to receive this Award. I still can’t believe I won it now that I look back at everything I have done for the last four years puts everything in perspective and reminds me of something Tony always told me was to make sure you mind your p’s and q’s because you never know who is watching! This goes to show even a little guy like me that’s just trying to keep Tony’s name going so his daughter, Gianna, will know how much he meant to everyone was being watched, even by some of the best bowlers in the world and the PBA. I thank you for everything.”

When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true!

It’s time bowling gradu-ates to the big leagues.

Sure, bowling has a men’s and a women’s pro tour – and a senior tour as well. And it has a profes-sional circuit with the Pro-fessional Bowlers Assn. League, which has com-pleted three seasons.

But tell me, how profes-sional is this league when a quarter of the teams – the Los Angeles X and Silver Lake (Calif.) Atom Splitters – are based in L.A. and the league never comes here to play any of its matches?

So here’s what bowling should do to make an impression on the world.

It needs to develop a slogan, a catchphrase, a battle cry, that will captivate the world and let people know that bowling is on a roll.

But what should it be? It has to be special, it has to be piercing, it has to reverberate among bowlers, both young and old.

It has to be poignant.Let’s look at some of the best slogans in baseball. Here are some of my favorites:“Baseball is life, the rest is just details.”“Don’t let the fear of striking out hold you back.”“Life is a game. Baseball is serious.”“Got game?”“Deeds, not words”Baseball has some good ones. And it should because almost 50 percent of American

adults are baseball fans. But look at bowling. More people in the U.S. participate in bowling than any other

sport. More than 69 million Americans bowl at least once a year.So bowling should brandish a slogan too.So here’s one.“It’ll be spectacular.”This is actually an abbreviated form of a quote by Kelly Gold, the elite San Fernando

Valley bowler and one of bowling’s biggest ambassadors.Responding to Bill Plummer’s back-to-back perfect games two years ago, Kelly said,

“I am inspired to do something spectacular.”Kelly’s off-the-cuff, very honest quote is a perfect slogan for bowling. It just has to be

shortened to make it digestible and promotable. When so many bowlers go on the lanes, “something spectacular” is exactly what they

hope to accomplish. And when they do, it’s an unforgettable moment in that bowler’s personal history. The quote shows hope and confidence . . . and fun.“It’ll be spectacular.”And if that slogan doesn’t work . . . .Perhaps bowling should use this one: “We’re on a roll.”

“Bad Boy” was directed by SideStilt Films’ Bryan Storkel and produced by Amy Storkel and Daniel Judge.

In conjunction with the “Bad Boy” debut, PBA is offer-ing a special “Who Do You Think You Are?” coffee mug and t-shirt for a limited time. PDW fans can order their special Pete Weber items at the PBA Tour Store on pba.com now through March 31.

QUICK NOTES:CHICAGO — England’s

Dom Barrett, who rolled a unique 10-strike 300 game in winning the World Bowling Tour Men’s Finals presented by the PBA, was mildly surprised when PBA CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark announced that Barrett would receive the traditional $10,000 bonus for bowling a nationally-televised perfect game.

The finals, which aired on Feb. 21 on ESPN, in-troduced an experimental World Bowling scoring system that awarded 30 pins for each strike in a 10-frame game with no “bonus” shots in the 10th frame. But to make sure he complied with the tradi-tional 12-strike scoring sys-tem in earning the bonus, Barrett told Clark, “I’ll be happy to throw two more strikes if you’d like.”

DOWNEY — It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough as Threadworks moved into 1st place in Round 5 by sweep-ing past The Professional Approach 5-0. The US Open pat-tern was playing especially tough tonight as most teams struggled. Paul Varela led the charge to the top, as he fired a very nice 604 series to lead the sweep. Danny Ly led Power House Video Games to a sweep of their own, as they took down Blizz Yogurt 5-0. Danny shot 625, while Greg Neuer led Blizz with 581. Team DV8 is once again in contention for the round lead, as Sam Hitchcock winged his way to 242/623 and led DV8 to a 4-1 win over Linder Insurance.

Linder was paced by Kurt Arakaki 592 and Kevin Val-monte 591. In the best scoring match of the night, Pino’s Pizza prevailed 3-2 as they held off Alhambra Coin Center to win Team Totals by 13. Both teams bowled well, finishing as #1 and #2 scoring teams for the night, and their pair was 250 pins higher than any other two teams combined scoring for a pair. Leading the way for Pino’s was Ramon Torres 627 & Leonard Ruiz 600, while Alhambra was led by Doug Kempt 660 & Steve Gaucin 608. Herzog Insurance took a 4-1 win over the PJ-less Los Altos Trophies team as Mikey Villarreal shot 625 for the winners, while Top Dog for the night went to Los Altos’ Buddy Lucas with a very fine 670.

In the roll off team matches, it was Erickson Foods once again losing the first two games, only to come back strong in Game 3 and not only win the game, but Team Totals. Er-ickson pulls within 2.5 games of holding the #1 seed with the 3-2 win, as nobody managed to shoot 600 series, Herbert

Jones led the way for Keystone Lanes with 589, while Jason Buenviaje shot 563 for Ericksons. Charlie Kinstler shot 614 to lead SYSCO to a 5-0 sweep of Forest Lanes who strug-gled all night to catch SYSCO. Mason Man O’Lantern Sher-man topped Forest with 589. American Harvest Vodka out shot CASAMIGO’S Tequila and won 4-1 as Kevin Jones rolled 588, while Vernon Adams topped the Tequila team with 565. Mike Jennings shot 594 to lead Tifco Industries to a 4-1 win over BOWLIUM, who had the pair’s high series, Craig Stevens with 623. Matt Mosley powered his way to 255 & 638 to lead Cook’s Bowling Supply to a 5-0 sweep over J.A.T. DeeRonn Booker led the Junior Amateur Tour team with 549. In the final pairing, it was GJC Services win-ning 3 points as Juan Zavala topped his squad with 511.

Sidepot winners were Game 1 – Sam Hitchcock 242 Game 2 –Jason Buenviaje 226 however the Financial Advi-sor’s pot was won by Buddy Lucas 225 for $240 with Leon-ard Ruiz Jr. 2nd place with 223 for $100. Game 3 Super Pot went to Mikey Villarreal 255, quite the contrast from last week where you needed 11 strikes or more to win. The TRUE ANCHOR award goes to a new winner, Barry Couch Jr. collected the honors with a 3 game set of 361.

One more week on the dreaded US Open shot to try and move into the Round Lead, improve your standing, or move up the ladder in the Roll Off seedings. I’m sure most can’t wait for May to get here, since we will be finished with this pattern. Hope to see you all down at Del Rio next Monday in Downey. Have a blessed week everyone!

DOWNEY — The Brunswick invitational hit the lanes for Week 5 of the 7 weeks on the 2015 USBC Nationals pattern. Scores were consistent with the previous weeks though bowlers are looking more comfortable on the shot and with their equipment choices.

In the “A” match, 17-3 Cook’s Bowling Supply took on sur-prising 15-5 Sysco who has been hot so far this round sweeping Forest to get to the feature pair. Cook’s game out strong taking the first game by triple-digits and kept on striking for the sweep. Matt Schermerhorn led Cook’s with a nice 639 set while Jamie Rovner managed 572 to lead Sysco. Cook’s remains in the “A” match next week facing Los Altos Trophy.

In the “B” match, Pino’s Pizza and Los Altos Trophy matched their 15-5 records after both teams had strong efforts the previous week. Pino’s came out striking to take game one but Los Altos Tro-phy came back to take games two, three and totals for 4 points. Juan Zavala led Los Altos with a nice 648 series while Herman Fergurson posted 566 for Pino’s.

Erickson Foods moved up to 13-7 with their 4 wins last week to face Ketel One Vodka who was swept out of the “A” match last week. The pair was scoring like crazy putting up big numbers as Ketel One easily swept to a 5-0 win. Eddie Van Daniker led the league with a 691 series including back to back 240 games.

Keystone Lanes at 12-8 faced first round winners and league overall-win leaders Professional Approach at 11-9. In a see-saw match Keystone took games one and three while Professional Ap-proach took game two by 90 to bank enough sticks for a total pins win. Billy Myers Jr. was strong for Professional Approach with a 597 series while Herbert Jones struck to 593 for Keystone.

Wowo’s Smokin’ Hot BBQ rode the momentum of their epic comeback two weeks ago to bag 5 more wins last week to move to 11-9 and face off with Forest Lanes who is at .500 this round at 10-10. Wowo’s took game one but couldn’t get anything going as Forest Lanes put up a couple of big games for the four-point win. Greg Neuer led Wowo’s with a 561 series while Gip Lentine led Forest with a 607 series.

Second-round winners Don Julio Tequila and GJC Janitorial were both looking to bounce back after tough sets last week. Don Julio took games one and two by enough for totals while GJC snuck out game 3. Bobby Campagnale led Don Julio with a 611 while Ryan Hinchliffe went big for GJC with a nice 633 set.

Linder’s Insurance comeback in game three last week bumped them up to 13th place and a match up with Alhambra Coin Center who fell after being swept last week. Linder’s took game one by a mark but it was all Alhambra Coin from there with a 4-1 win. Sub Brandon Grant led Alhambra Coin with a nice 669 set while Michelle Tran led Linder’s with a 559 set.

J.A.T. bumped up a couple spots last week moving up to face Relax-Release-Repeat who had a strong effort but could not hold on for totals the previous week. J.A.T. snuck out wins in games one and two but a pair of 6-baggers helped Relax-Release-Repeat take game 3 and totals. Brian Gonzales led the Triple-R bunch at 589 while DeeRonn Booker once again led J.A.T. with a 554 effort.

Third-round winners DV8, Threadworks, Herzog Insurance and Cremation Centers of CA have started slow this round but were look-ing to bank some wins this week. Cremation took the first two games for their two points while Herzog came back to win game three big and take totals in their match. Matt Mosley led Creation with a 501 set while Kevin Gagnon broke six with a 607 for Herzog. Thread-works took 4 points dropping the second game but taking games one, three and totals leaving DV8 with one point. Kevin Jones subbed his way to the lead for Threadworks with a 631 set while Dave Jovach was steady for DV8 with a 593 series.

Sidepots went to Eddie VanDaniker 246 and Eddie again with a 245 for $81 each game. Third game SuperPot went to Jon Huff with a 217 for $243. Second game Financial Advisors pot went to Bobby Hornacek with an unusual 261 game for $220 and second to Eddie VanDaniker- 245 for $100. Eddie VanDaniker turned in a Clean-30 to guarantee him half of the pot and Sol Cericos was the lone person to strike out in the third game earning him the $1000 pot! Congratula-tions Sol! Come on out Monday nights at 8:30 to see the best scratch league in So. California in action!
