Trunk-N-Treat Our church will host its 7th Annual Trunk-N-Treat event Next Sun, Oct 28, from 5:30-7pm in the parking lot circling around First Place. This is an opportunity for children from our church and the community to celebrate fall and collect treats in a safe and fun environment. Last year this was a huge and successful outreach to the community. What do we need? We need YOU to bring your vehicle, open your trunk, decorate it, and pass out goodies to all the kids. Vehicles may begin arriving up to 30 minutes before the event in order to set up. We welcome EVERYONE from church to decorate your trunk and pass out your goodies! We also need kids in costume to collect the treats, so please invite your friends and neighbors for hot dogs and trunk-n-treating! Our Trunk-N-Treat will begin at 5:30pm with a hot dog dinner. Make sure you bring plenty of goodies or treats to hand out. If you have any questions, please contact Brenda Williams @ 423-4067 or contact the church office @ 335-2826. We hope to see you there!

Trunk-N-Treat Candy Donations Do you want to help with Trunk-N-Treat, but don’t want to decorate your trunk….we can use candy donations! Please consider buying an extra bag of candy this year and

kindly place it in the basket in the church office by Oct 27.

Still Time to Sign Up for Costa Rica

Our first mission trip to Costa Rica will take place in March 2013, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 14 through Monday March 18. We will be able to accommodate only 12 people on this initial trip, and it will be led by Brett Bogan and Jill Leckrone. The cost should be around $900 to $1000 per person, and will include airfare, lodging and other expenses. Some of the possible activities while there:

Helping to build a new safe haven for the children of Jaco

Volunteering at the kids club and surf lessons through The Refuge

Church with the families of Jaco and a community picnic

and of course, some sightseeing in Costa Rica

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America, Costa Rica is destination country for trafficked women and children from other countries in Latin America. Children from poorer communities in Costa Rica are also at risk, so our goal in getting involved with The Refuge is help them build their ministry that will help the children of Jaco. If you are interested in going and would like to be on the list of possible participants, please sign up on the in the Gathering room, at First Place or contact the church office, 335-2826.

Thank you Herb Hartman! A big thank you to Herb Hartman for the beautiful tree he painted on the Gathering Room wall. The tree is the background of our new “Ministry Wall.” In the weeks ahead our tree will continue to sprout with information of our ministries and opportunities for growth. Psalm 1:3 says “They shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever they do shall prosper.”

Thank You! “Dear FUMC, On behalf of Tesros de Dios (Bradley’s House of Hope), thank you for your generous contribution of $2,869. Your donation will greatly benefit the 80 children along with their families, and the 13 local staff members employed by our organization. It is so important for our organization to have the support of churches around the US. Thank you for your partnership. You can stay updated with everything that we are doing by visiting: www.tesorosdedios.org. If you would like to receive a newsletter updating you on the work we are doing in Nicaragua, you may request one by emailing: [email protected].

“Kids’ Korner” Congratulations to:

Call the Church office (335-2826) or e-mail: [email protected] with special things your children have

accomplished, so we can celebrate with you.

Racing for Hope on New Year's Day

All Saints Sunday On Sun, Nov 4, we will have a special worship service to remember by name all of our friends and family who passed away between Nov 4, 2011-Oct 29, 2012. There are several ways during the service in which we will pay tribute to our loved ones. 1.) We will have a procession of candles in memory of those who have died. 2.) During the services a “Roll Call of the Deceased” will be read and a solemn ringing of a bell will be rung for each name.

3.) We’ll have a photo tribute playing on the screen as the names are read. Email or drop off your photo to the church office. You may email photos to Sue Martin at: [email protected]. Please include the person’s name and date of death. Following is a list of loved ones who will be remembered during the services. Please call Sue at the church, 335-2826, with any additions or corrections. The firm deadline for receiving your picture and information is Mon, Oct 29.

Today’s Anthem: “”

Open my eyes, that I may see

Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me; Place in my hands the wonderful key

That shall unclasp and set me free. Refrain: Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see, Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine.

Open my ears, that I may hear

Voices of truth Thou sendest clear; And while the scriptures fall on my ear,

Everything false will disappear. Refrain: Open my mouth, and let me bear,

Gladly the warm truth everywhere; Open my heart and let me prepare

Love with Thy children thus to share.

Refrain:

The Altar Flowers are presented to the Glory of God by Jane Estes, in honor of our wonderful pastors, Pastor Dave and Pastor Mic.
