Please join us on September 29 at 10:00 am in Goldsmith Hall as we celebrate with our honorees. Connie Simon has been a member of Beth Shalom since 1992. Since becoming a member, Connie has served on both the Beth Shalom Board of Directors and the Board of Directors for Sisterhood, where Connie is the Co-Chair and Treasurer of the Gift Shop. Connie has also served as High Holiday Appeal Co-Chair, Torah Fund Co-Chair, Torah Fund Treasurer and Sisterhood Vice President of Education. Connie has also served on many Blue Valley School committees, the PTA & PTO Boards at Cottonwood Point Elementary, Oxford Middle School and BVNW High School and volunteered for Federation, NCJW and KCUSY. Connie grew up in St. Louis at Shaare Zedek (Kol Rhina) where she was President of SZUSY. After high school, Connie attended Emory University in Atlanta where she earned BA’s in Psychology & Sociology. Connie worked in medical research, grant writing and administration and, after moving to Kansas City, worked as a Senior Coordinator and Research Associate for the KU Cancer Center. Connie has been a teacher at the Beth Shalom Preschool since 2006, where she loves helping young children discover and learn. Connie has been married to her husband Richard for 30 years and they are the proud parents of two children, Benjamin and Elie, both alumni of Beth Shalom Preschool. Eric Poe grew up mostly in the KC area. He joined Beth Shalom in the mid-90s where he and his wife, Helaine Cohn, were married a few years later. Both he and his wife were members of Tefillah 2000 and the inaugural adult b'nei mitzvah class. He is a team manager and software developer. He is an ambassador for CoderDojoKC, an organization that teaches children how to program computers, and for Kansas City Women in Technology, an organization that supports and mentors local women in various technology fields. He and his wife are raising two daughters, Hannah and Rachel. Hannah is currently studying for her bat mitzvah in 2022.

This year Connie Simon, Kallat Torah, and Eric Poe, Chatan Bereishit, will be honored as Congregation Beth Shalom volunteers on Simchat Torah morning. Please join us on September 29 at 10:00 am

Connie Simon has been a member of Beth Shalom since 1992. Since becoming a member, Connie has served on both the Beth Shalom Board of Directors and the Board of Directors for Sisterhood, where Connie is the Co-Chair and Treasurer of the Gift Shop. Connie has also served as High Holiday Appeal Co-Chair, Torah Fund Co-Chair, Torah Fund Treasurer and Sisterhood Vice President of Education. Raye and Bruce Silverman We are so excited to become a part of the family at Beth Shalom. We moved from Denver, Colo. to Lee's Summit to be near our two sons. The youngest just had his 4th little princess.

Bruce retired from Aviation and I from Elementary Education. We love meeting and studying with people and exploring new places.Raye and Bruce

David Chase David Chase has been a conductor and teacher with the Broomfield Youth Symphony since 2019. He has performed with and conducted professional orchestras since 2002. A brass specialist with an emphasis in jazz, Mr. Chase is currently the Conductor for the Broomfield Youth Symphony’s Diamond Orchestra. His primary string instrument is double bass.

Because of Covid, this was the first time the Beth Shalom Sisterhood Past Presidents were able to get together for a long time.

The Sarah Peltzman Educational Series consists of three educational units, beginning Thursday morning, October 14, 10:00-11:00 a.m., sponsored by Congregation Beth Shalom’s Sisterhood. Unit One will be presented via Zoom. Condi-tions permitting, Unit Two will be in Goldsmith Hall.

The cost is $15 for unit one, $20 each for units two and three, or $45 for all three units. The fee for couples is $65 total and includes all three units. All units are open to the entire Jewish community of Greater Kansas City. Each unit (lasting four class sessions) is followed by a fifth session with a guest speaker.

Bat Mitzvah Ayla Liana Williams October 2/ 26 TishreiAyla Liana Williams is the daughter of Stefanie Williams and Ryan Williams and is the sister of Amos Williams. She is the granddaughter of Arlene and Jeff Misler, and Christy and Ronnie Williams, of Alva, FL, and the great granddaughter of Gigi Betty Misler, of Cary, NC. Ayla attends Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. Ayla loves soccer, basketball and art. For her B'nei Mitzvah project, she is working with Unleashed to provide toys, food and items needed to make the animals' stay there better. Bar Mitzvah Eric Jacob Fine October 16/ 10 CheshvanEric Jacob Fine is the son of Steve and Beatrice Fine and is the brother of Benjamin Fine. He attends Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. His hobbies and activities include Boy Scouts, swimming, and tennis. For his B'nei Mitzvah project, last summer, Eric and friends from his Boy Scout troop collected over 1,200 pounds of food for the Jewish Family Services Food Pantry, and this summer, Eric attended Ma’assim Tovim where he participated in community service activities for Harvesters, the Humane Society, the Mitzvah Garden, Scraps KC, Catholic Charities, etc. Please join the family via livestream (bethshalomkc.org/livestreaming) to share in their simcha.
