Operation Christmas Child

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child.

Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.

We here at First Baptist Church will again have an opportunity to bring the POWER OF HIS NAME to children around the world! Please be in prayer for this ministry and the impact of these simple gifts.

There will be a time of dedication on Sunday, November 13th during the 8:30 and 11am worship services. Starting in October look in the nursery area hallway for GO BOXES. They will have information and the label for you to take and fill. Shoeboxes may be brought to the central hallway beginning Sunday, October 2nd.

Now is the time to start collecting items for your shoebox. Here are some great things to pack in a shoebox: 1. School Supplies—pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc. 2. Toys—small cars, balls, dolls, slinky, jump rope, small Etch-A-Sketch, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yo’s, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries). 3. Hygiene items—toothbrush, tooth paste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, brush, washcloth, etc. 4. Hard candy and lollipops, mints, gum (Please place all candy in a double plastic bag.) 5. T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, or hair clips. 6. A Personal Note—In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child with a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)

DO NOT INCLUDE: Used or damaged items, war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures, chocolate or food, out-of-date candy, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items such as snow globes, glass containers or aerosol cans.

Remember to include a $7 donation per box to cover shipping and other project costs. Give online and follow your shoebox to its destination (samaritanspurse.org/occ)

Information on packing and sending shoeboxes will be located in the central hallway. If you have any questions or suggestions about Operation Shoebox, please feel free to contact Cathy Green @ 252-241-5026 or email her [email protected].

OCTOBER 5—DIACONATE A Called Business Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 5 at 6:15pm in the FLC. The Nominating Committee will present for church approval the following Deacon nominees: Glenda Dixon, Ronnie Ennis, Leon Murdoch, Nancy Piner and Judy White. Also, to be presented for special election are Glenda Baker, Jerry Clonts, and Fletcher Noe to serve one additional year.

NEW ADULT BIBLE FELLOWSHIP GROUP STARTS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2 Tim Lockey will begin a new group next Sunday morning that will be geared toward younger adults. The group will meet in room #202 at 9:45am. For information, please contact Tim Lockey at 252-725-3595 or [email protected].

MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY A study of Paul’s letter to the Church at Corinth begins September 26 at 10:00 am in the Conference Room. Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to answer certain questions that had arisen in the early Church. The message of the book addresses the failure to recognize Jesus Christ as LORD. Judy Majstoravich will be the facilitator.

In this four week class you will gain a good understanding on the foundations of our Christian faith. We will explore what we believe about God, the Bible, Jesus Christ, salvation, the Holy Spirit, and the Church. You may choose to join us for all four weeks or just the weeks you are interested in learning more about. Pastor Darrell Williams will lead this study on the first four Sunday mornings in October at 9:45am in room #202.

October 2 Session 1 - God: Who is He? October 9 Session 2 - Salvation: What does it mean to be saved? October 16 Session 3 - Church: What is the local church all about? October 23 Session 4 - The Bible: How reliable is the Bible?

Looking Ahead November 2016

To all our faithful Upward basketball supporters and those interested in becoming part of the Upward ministry. It’s that time of year again—when we reach out to the youth and their families through Upward basketball. This ministry is open to all boys & girls in grades 1-6.

We are in need of volunteers to work on evaluation nights from 5-8pm on: Tuesday, October 11 (Grades 1 & 2) Monday, October 17 (Grades 3 & 4) Tuesday, October 18 (Grades 5 & 6) Thursday, October 20 (Make-up for all ages)

We’ll need approximately 20 people on each night to do the drills, check in the kids, size them and check their height. You do not have to have a knowledge of basketball to assist. We need everyone who is willing.

To register your child you may:

go online to at www.fbcmhc.org/upward_basketball

download an application and mail to the church office, or

pick up an application from the church office

. All children who plan to participate must attend one of the evaluations.

If you would like to help or need further information, please contact Darrell Williams at either 726-4142 or [email protected].
