SCJ MASTER COUNCILOR

My Brothers of SCJ,

I am excited to say that we have so many things to look forward to this year! But

As we kick off the DeMolay year, it is important that we think about the member-

ship! Positive growth is always our goal, and, for this year in particular, it is easily

attainable! As of right now we are 41 members away from positive growth. So, if

every Chapter in SCJ initiates 2 members between now and December, we will not

only meet our goal, but surpass it! If your Chapter needs help with an initiation,

you have many resources. Ask your League Officers, and your Jurisdiction Officers and we will be

willing to help the best we can.

The next thing we wish to work more on this year is Charity. This month in particular we are par-

ticipating in CHOC Walk. Every year Grand Lodge deems October as ―Make a Difference Month‖

and this year we wish to make a difference by supporting the Children’s Hospital of Orange

County in the CHOC Walk on October 18th. I sincerely hope that as many people as possible

come out and participate.

We have many goals that can be accomplished this year and, while we strive to accomplish

them, let’s never forget to just have fun. It is, after all, what makes our organization one of a

kind.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Max Shoemaker

I hope everyone had fun at Conclave this year, but now it is time to get down to

WHAT'S UP SCJ!!! I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME AT CONCLAVE. I

KNOW I DID. NOW THE YEAR IS BEGINNING AND DIAMOND LEAGUE HAS A

LOT OF BIG THINGS AHEAD OF US. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING

MANY OF YOU SUPPORT OUR UPCOMING EVENTS. WE JUST RECENTLY ON

SEPT. 12TH USHERED A KENNY G CONCERT WITH THE SHRINE HOSPITAL AND RAISED $300 FOR THE LEAGUE. I HAVE CHO-

SEN MY OFFICERS WISELY, SO LOOK FOR THEM TO BE KEEPING YOU UP TO DATE WITH OUR EVENTS. A LOT OF CHAPTERS

WILL BEGIN HAVING THIER INSTALATIONS SOON, SO I'D LIKE TO SEE MANY OF YOU OUT THERE SUPPORTING YOUR BRE-

THEREN. I KNOW DIAMOND LEAGUE WILL BE MAKING VISITS TO MANY OF THESE INSTALLATIONS SO LOOK FOR THOSE

ROCKS WE HOLD HIGH. I AM VERY HYPED UP ABOUT BEING PRESIDENT OF DIAMOND LEAGUE THIS YEAR AND I WANT TO

THANK MY GUYS FOR ELECTING ME. HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU AROUND THE JURISDICTION. REMEMBER SOME RELATION-

SHIPS COME TO AN END...BUT DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER .

WALTER PIJEAUX DIAMOND LEAGUE PRESIDENT

Conclave was a blast this year, and Highland League made a good showing.

All of our league officers were present and installed on Sunday morning, Foot-

hill and KLS chapters initiated members in the membership class, and we

had many Highland DeMolays attending and participating. I am overjoyed to be able to say that Highland DeMolays and advi-

sors could easily be seen wearing their green Highland shirts on Saturday and Sunday. And now that Conclave is past it is time

to look forward to the new DeMolay year.

Highland League’s officers and advisors are already hard at work on planning the year’s events and there are many

new ideas to match the new league. This year will be a strong one filled with fun events, new fundraisers, coordinated func-

tions with other leagues, and plans to build up our Highland chapters; Foothill, KLS, and Rialto. Membership will be essential

to Highland this year and so will participation as we grow on both chapter and league levels. On behalf of Highland League, I

would like to say that we look forward to active participation in the Jurisdiction and an overall fantastic year in DeMolay.

Highland President,

Garrett Lacroix

Hey guys

First I'd like to say welcome to Paradise. The league officers, advisors and I

have worked very hard on planning some exciting and fun new events for this upcoming year. While some of these ideas might

seem a little odd, I know they will be a big hit! A few but not all of these events include an ultimate Frisbee tournament, a

league paintball event, and a food fight... yes a food fight. However, our goal this year is not to overload the calendar with

events, but it is to plan a few, high quality events, so the chapters can see how an event should be ran, and then be able to

plan their own event which all of the league can attend. By doing this we will be able to strengthen the bond between chapters

as well as DeMolay as a whole by bringing in new members. Attendance at the first league meeting was outstanding and I

know attendance at league meetings and events will just continue to rise. I know this is going to be an exciting and fun-filled

year, and remember, things are always better in Paradise!

Paradise League President

Chris Hannum

My brothers in SCJ, first, I would like to congratulate all the Jurisdiction

and League Officers who took on the responsibility of leadership this year

for the Jurisdiction and the new leagues. I would also like to congratu-

late Brothers Jessy Hauner from Valley Hills and Connor Shinn from Agate on being Installed Master Councilor for their Chap-

ter. I know under your leadership that your Chapters will strive even further. I would like to also personally invite you to attend

our annual Monster Manor event on October 10th., This event is always one to look forward to. I would also like to invite you

to Kimball Chapter's second semi annual installation in November date TBA, I know that our brothers will be honored by all of

your presence, and you will surely be in for some great food and brotherhood. With Conclave now behind us, we have officially

started this new chapter for our Jurisdiction. It is my honor to be the Royal Coast League President this year, and I look for-

ward to working with the other Presidents and the Jurisdiction Officers in helping this transition be successful.

Stephen Gillard Royal Coast League President

Greetings Southern California Jurisdiction DeMolay! I want to start things off

by telling everyone how great Conclave was this year! I want to give major

props to everyone who helped out with Conclave and everyone who attended. I

also would like to congratulate our new League Presidents and Rachel Reese, Elizabeth Marroquin, Max Shoemaker, Tyler Davies,

and Kenneth Hawkins on their installations as Southern California Jurisdiction Officers. I am looking forward to a great year not

only within our jurisdiction but within DeMolay on an international level. I want to also take some time to plug a couple of events

going on within the next month in Sonora League. On the 28th of September we will be having our very first league meeting in Cen-

tennial at 7:30 P.M. The Sonora League Podcast crew will be meeting an hour early to film our first podcast; if you would like to

help out please show up early. On the 17th of October, Redlands will be having an installation at 7:00 P.M. Finally, our 2nd league

meeting will take place at Fellowship Chapter on the 21st of October at 7:30 P.M. Once again, we will be meeting early to film our

podcast so please try and make it out early if you would like to help out. Sonora League is dedicated to helping this jurisdiction

have its best year yet and we look forward to helping SCJ reach positive growth for 2009-2010.

Hey SCJ, I hope you guys are having an awesome year so far. Well, I know school

is starting again so I only have a couple events that are coming up. The League

meeting for Titan in October is the 19th at Huntington Beach Chapter. A couple

weeks later, Titan League is having a Lazer Tag Lock-In at Lazerquest in Fullerton. I want to congratulate all the people,

chapters, and leagues that won awards at Conclave, well deserved. I don't know about you guys, but my chapter and I had

an awesome time at conclave this year. Its a new year people so lets start it out good by setting the tone for the rest of the

year to come. Last, but not least, I want to congratulate Titan League on winning the spirit award for the first time as

Leagues. I still can't believe I had my face painted that much, but it was worth it guys. Let’s make SCJ the way we want SCJ

to be—fun, competitive, serving our local communities, and most of all having brotherhood fill our hearts. Let’s make this

first year as leagues an AWESOME year!

Sincerely,

Your brother and friend Chris Parenteau

SCJ Sweetheart

Hello SCJ!

Wow, it has already been a month since conclave and there has been a lot of fun exciting things to do. It has been

great seeing the good attendance at all of the installations from both the young men and the ladies. Attendance is a

main factor in the support of DeMolay, so it is important for the ladies to be there just like it is for all of the mem-

bers. In support of this, the Sweethearts will have a program similar to the Brotherhood program called the Sweet-

heart Credit Card. The program is for any girl that is at an event; they will receive a credit card (business card) from

either the League Sweethearts or Lizzy, myself, and Mom Carr, with contact information and the date of the event on it. Those who

receive these cards will save them up over time and, at designated events, will place the cards with their names on them in a drawing

to receive a prize. We hope to spark a new drive for more ladies, not only our current supportive sweethearts, to be present at the

DeMolay activities. I hope to see you all around the Jurisdiction as I continue to travel to installations and events.

Keep having fun,

Rachel Reese

SCJ Congress Secretary

Hey There SCJ! Hope you guys have been enjoying the new term so far, God knows I have. Everyone has been talking about mem-bership and positive growth lately and why not. We are so close to achieving positive growth this year we only need 41 guys left to get it. Getting 41 guys in should be no problem for you guys. Now on to communication. If your chap-ter is having any events feel free to let your Jurisdiction know so we help you advertise it to the other chapters and leagues.

SCJ is having a few events coming up within these two months that I recommend you all go too. First is our CHOC walk on October 18th, it is very charitable cause and if we can get strong support it will really show the great character of this organization. Next is the event you all know and love, SCJ Football! This great event will be on November 14th at Excelsior high school. This is our first sport-ing event this year and we should make it a great one by showing our spirit as well as our pride on the gridiron. The Jurisdiction is here for you, and we are doing our best to make sure you get what you want out of this year. With that said don't be afraid to share any ideas you have about future events or about new events. On a final note make sure to support your fellow brothers in their endeavors as we strive for an amazing year, it takes a whole Jurisdiction to make a great year and it all starts wit h the members. Your Grateful Congress Secretary, Kenneth Hawkins

Hello Everyone!

First, I just want to again thank all the young men of SCJ for giving me this wonderful opportunity and honor. I am so excited

for this next year and can't wait for all the fun that we are going to have! I know that there’s a lot of changes this year be-

cause we have now switched over to Leagues, but I know that we will make the best of it and will be able to use this change

as an opportunity to not only make our Chapters stronger but our Jurisdiction, as well. On October 18th, we are going to be

doing the CHOC Walk at Disneyland. It's for the Children's Hospital of Orange County and you can register online at

chocwalk.org under the team name "SCJ DeMolay." It's fifty dollars to register, but, if you get sponsors, then you don't have to use money out

of your own pocket. I really hope all of you participate. It's a great charity; all of the money goes back to the hospital to help with all of their

needs and help pay for surgeries for some of the children whose families can't afford them. The Sweetheart program has done this walk for

awhile now as one of our charities and the walk was chosen as the charity for make a difference month this year. I really hope to see all of

you there! I hope to see all of you at the different Installations that are going on. Remember to have fun and again I’m super excited for this

year!

Well I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at Conclave this year! I would like to thank everyone that helped. I would like

to thank all the Advisors that came to Conclave and I hope that every member will say thank you to them. We have a

tendency to take for granted what they do for all of us. They pay to come and work the weekend, they stay up all night

when they would rather be in bed sleeping. So please take the time to say thank you to the Advisors that give so much

of their time and love to the Order and to all of you!

I look forward to this coming year and working with the new Jurisdiction Officers and with the new Jurisdiction Staff.

The new Core has some very exciting ideas and they are working hard to lay out the plans. I would also like to ask eve-

ryone to welcome Don Peterson to his new position as Assistant Jurisdiction Dad. He will be working with me and the

Jurisdiction Officers this year.

Remember to make sure that the Jurisdiction Officers know, as far in advance as possible, about your Chapter Installations, League meet-

ings and special events that are coming up. This way they can get the word out to others, resulting in a good turn out to your activities.

I look forward to seeing everyone on October 23rd at the Shrine Halloween Dance. Remember, this is a great opportunity for everyone to

bring prospects. We also have SCJ Football coming up on November 14th. Thanksgiving weekend is NorCal’s Conclave. We had quite a few

people go last year and we would love to increase the SCJ participation this year. So let’s plan on going and support Max when he gives his

speech.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm!

FROM THE E.O.

Greetings to our SCJ DeMolay Family

Well what can I say,? We survived another Conclave! It was a great weekend for everyone who attended,

the Brotherhood, Grand Master’s class, learning opportunities and playing games were the main reasons

why they came; plus for us adults, it re-energizes us to dedicate another year to support our youth. The fact

that the Grand Master of Masons in California, Most Worshipful Larry Adamson & his lady Lynn were present

for the entire weekend made it the first time in SCJ DeMolay history.

As we start our new DeMolay 2009 – 2010 year, I want to congratulate our new SCJ officers. Master Councilor Maxwell

Shoemaker, Deputy Master Councilor Tyler Davies, Congress Secretary Kenneth Hawkins, Sweetheart Elizabeth Marroquin &

Princess Rachel Reese. They have planned a calendar full of fun and exciting activities for the entire jurisdiction. Welcome

aboard and I’m looking forward to working with each of you this year.

The New Year does bring with it many changes and challenges for all of us. The new SCJ structure will allow us to come to-

gether in small Leagues and have better local representation from each chapter. If you go on to our SCJ DeMolay website

you’ll find the organizational chart with the names of the advisors assigned to each League, committee or area of administra-

tion. The biggest changes this year, besides going from Governors to Administrators, are the addition of new positions to help

us run SCJ. Two Assistant Executive officers, Dads Rob Scott & Brian Messenger and Mom Harlan, as my Administrative Secre-

tary, will assist me in making the best use of my time to serve DeMolay. Dad Paul Lacroix, our Jurisdiction Dad, welcomes Dad

Don Peterson as his Assistant Jurisdiction Dad. Dad Ray Davies, our Executive Director, welcomes Dad Joe Valenzuela as Ac-

tivities Coordinator who will make sure that everything happens as scheduled. I also want to welcome our new Directors, Dads

Joe Tabrisky, Jeremyha Lyle and Rusty Roten.

I’m excited by all of the positive feedback I have received from many active members, senior DeMolays and advisors by

going back in time in 09. While we’re bringing back some things from the past, we’re also trying to take SCJ into the 21st cen-

tury, by improving the usability of our SCJ website, having Telephone & Video conferencing, Mass Text Messaging, Advisors

Email Updates in order to eliminate snail mailings, and getting involved in Facebook, Twitter, etc.

I want to close by thanking all of our volunteers, regardless of their positions, for all they do for SCJ DeMolay. As we move

forward we recognize the importance of continuing to put our Youth as our # 1 Priority!

Fraternally,

Just Dad Key
