Estimadas Familias de Nicasio,

Gracias por el increible apoyo que mostraron hacia las familias evacuadas temporalmente debido a los incendios del Norte de la Bahía. Sus donaciones generosas han hecho un gran impacto. Durante el fin de semana, estas familias han regresado a Sonoma para que sus niños puedan regresar a la escuela en sus distritos de residencia. En este momento, ya no estamos recibiendo donaciones en la oficina escolar. En las Huellas del Puma de esta semana se incluyen recursos para aquellos quienes continúan viviendo el impacto de esta tragedia.

¡Nuestro Walk A Thon ha sido reprogramado! Acompáñenos este viernes 3 de octubre a las

2 pm. Todos los estudiantes de Jardín de Niños están invitados a regresar a la escuela para participar. Gracias por seguir llenando sus sobre. Este es un evento de recaudación de fondos importante para nuestra Fundación y los fondos van directamente a nuestros estudiantes. ¡Gracia a Monica Snell por la organización!

Este miércoles tuve el privilegio en aceptar un cheque de parte de la organización Schools Rule

Marin para nuestro distrito. Haga click aquí para saber más sobre está organización, la cual trabaja para el beneficio de cada estudiante en el Condado de Marín. ¡Gracias Schools Rule!

El jueves pasado, la escuela condujo un simulacro de terremoto como parte de la Gran

Sacudida de California (Great California Shake-Out.) Estoy impresionada con la preparación de nuestro personal y estudiantes. Estos simulacros son una parte importante en nuestra agenda y nos permite practicar lo que se debe hacer en el evento de una emergencia. La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes es una de nuestras mas importantes prioridades. Nuestro siguiente simulacro de emergencia está planeado para el jueves 9 de noviembre. Este es un día mínimo y los estudiantes salen a las 12pm, mediodía. Practicaremos nuestro protocolor para la entrega de los estudiantes a sus familias en el evento de una emergencia. Mas información estará disponible mas adelante…

Favor de revisar la información sobre nuestro desfile de disfraces el Día de Brujas el próximo

jueves en la mañana. Espero nos acompañen durante la mañana con una taza de café o un vaso de jugo mientras esperamos a que inicie el desfile. ¡No olvide su cámara! Por último, ha aumentado el compartir comida entre los estudiantes durante el receso y el recreo. Nosotros continuamente desalentamos a los estudiantes a compartir alimentos para mantenerlos libres de alergias y minimizar el contagio de gérmenes. También recordamos a los estudiantes que ustedes (sus padres) ¡han seleccionado los alimentos que a ellos les gustan para comer! Gracias por ayudarnos a reforzar este mensaje en casa. Walkathon 2017 Escuela Nicasio Viernes, Noviembre 3, 2017 Pista de la Escuela Nicasio

El Walk-a-thon ha sido agendado para el viernes 3 de Noviembre!

Este es mi último año organizado el Walk-a-thon. Si algún (os) padres(s) qusieran apuntarse y tomar el liderazgo de este vívido evento para el próximo año, coácteme para pasarle las riendas.

El 3 de Noviembre los estudiantes deben recordar:

Traer su botella de agua personal Aplicar protector solar Vestir ropa confortable Vestir zapatos para caminar/correr para este evento de resistencia

La Fundación de la Escuela Nicasio proporcionará los refrigerios.

Favor de recordar regresar sus sobres a mas tardar la fecha del evento, así podremos indicar a los ganadores. Se les pide a los voluntarios presentarse el viernes entre 1-2 pm para organizar. En este momento cuento con 0 voluntarios.

Middle School Halloween Dance

Hosted by San Geronimo Valley Community Center in partnership with Lagunitas School. All are invited: Open Classroom 6th grade, Nicasio School and West Marin School.

Details Friday, October 27 from 7-9pm in the GYM.

The cost is $10 for students and $10 for their guests(+1). Tickets sold at door. No one turned away for lack of funds.

All proceeds will go to North Bay fire victims.

Attention Parents Please do not arrive early (before 7pm) and do not pick up later than 9pm that night.

Students MUST have a signed permission slip for entry We need parents to bake treats and donate drinks! Bring food and drinks immediately to LOFT upon

arrival. No nuts of any kind in food, please.

LAGUNITAS MIDDLE SCHOOL Halloween Dance Rules and Permission Slip The San Geronimo Valley Community Center and the Lagunitas School District are hosting a Middle School Halloween dance with a DJ and games in the GYM and LOFT! Staff and volunteers from the Community Center will chaperone this dance, along with parent volunteers. -- Date: Friday, October 27, 2017 Place: San Geronimo Valley Community Gym Time: 7–9PM (no early departure without parent pick-up) Cost: $10 at the door. All students invited: Open classroom 6th grade, Nicasio School, West Marin School. Students are allowed a (+1) if they wish to bring a friend as their date. All students and parents must read and sign the Dance Rules and Permission slip. Bring signed form to school or to the door the night of the dance.

Dance Rules

Ø Students may NOT arrive early (before 7pm) and MUST be picked up no later than 9:00 PM. Ø Students may not leave dance early unless picked up by parent. Ø Students must stay in the gym building. Ø Only middle school appropriate dancing will be allowed – nothing inappropriate for a middle

school dance or that violates the space of other dance participants. Ø Parents will be called to pick up their student if they use inappropriate behavior or disrespect

the dance participants, chaperones, or damage property. Ø All food and drink must be kept in the food room (the LOFT upstairs).

Want to help? We need lots of Halloween themed treats and liquid refreshments the day or evening of the dance! We also need help decorating the gym on Friday. Food Assistance for Those Affected by the Northern California Fires

When Will It Be Available?

Government agencies estimate that a food assistance program will be in place for people to apply next week. Once it is available, there is only a seven-day window for people to apply. More details on eligibility and the application process should be forthcoming soon. Please keep your eyes open so that people do not lose the opportunity to apply for this benefit.

What Is The Disaster Food Assistance Program That Will Be Available?

Disaster CalFresh (D-CalFresh), federally known as the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP), is a way to meet the temporary nutritional needs of disaster victims within a 30-day period, following a natural disaster such as the fires that have devastated some Northern California counties.

D-CalFresh provides a month's worth of benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card which can be used to purchase food at authorized retail stores.

Who is Eligible?

The household eligibility requirements under D-CalFresh are:

Residency The household must have lived in the disaster area at the time of the disaster. In some cases, D-CalFresh approvals may include eligibility for people who worked in the disaster area.

Purchase of Food To be eligible, households must plan on purchasing food during the disaster benefit period.

Adverse Effect The household must have experienced one of the following adverse actions:

• Damage to home or self-employment property • Disaster-related expenses • A disruption in income • Inaccessible liquid resources

In some cases, D-CalFresh approvals may include eligibility for households that lost food, but had no other disaster-related expenses.

Income and Resources Modified Categorical Eligibility (MCE), in the regular CalFresh program, wherein the CalFresh households resources are excluded when determining CalFresh eligibility does not apply in the D-CalFresh program. Income and resources must be counted in order to determine eligibility in the D-CalFresh program for households who have suffered a disaster loss.

Note: The total net (take-home) income received during the benefit period plus accessible liquid resources, minus eligible disaster-related expenses, shall not exceed the disaster gross income limit. Click to view disaster gross income limits for the period of 10/01/17 - 09/30/18.

How Can People Access These Benefits?

For those who are current CalFresh recipientd affected by the disaster and meet the household eligibility requirements listed, they should contact their local County Welfare Department for additional information on how to request supplemental disaster benefits. For those who are new applicants affected by the disaster, meet the household eligibility requirements listed, and would like to apply for D-CalFresh, they can apply in person at their local County Welfare Department or other designated D-CalFresh application site when the program becomes available. In order to qualify for a temporary disaster benefit all disaster victims must meet the household eligibility requirements listed above.

We have only begun to see the effects of the North Bay fires, and as our communities rally to provide support to those affected, FHANC wants to let our community know of services we can offer. Mortgage Delinquency: Our bilingual Foreclosure Prevention Counselor may be able to assist you if you have lost your employment due to the fire, if your home has depreciated, or you have other mortgage-related concerns. Some lenders have specific relief measures that could help to save your home and prevent additional unnecessary loss. There are safety nets in place and FHANC wants to help ensure that you are informed about all available assistance. Unreasonable Rent Hikes: Under California Penal Code §396(b), landlords are prohibited from raising rent prices more than 10 percent on housing for 30 days after a declared state of emergency resulting from natural or man-made disasters, such as fire, earthquakes, etc. If you have experienced price-gouging, please contact your local District Attorney's office or report it to the CA Attorney General's office. If you believe you are being targeted for price-gouging because of your race, color, national origin, familial status, disability, or immigration status, this is a fair housing issue, so please call our office. Concerns due to immigration status or citizenship: Please note that Senator Kamala Harris confirmed that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will not be conducting immigration enforcement in impacted areas. Reasonable Accommodations for Renters with Disabilities: If you are a renter who has been impacted by the wildfires and you have disability-related concerns, a Housing Counselor may be able to assist you with a reasonable accommodation request based upon your household's disability-related need. For instance, if your home is still considered habitable but due to your disabilities, you are unable to safely use and enjoy the premises, FHANC can talk with you about your rights. We will continue to watch closely for emerging fair housing issues as the effects of this devastation continue to unfold.
