• It is a global challenge that has a lot of causes and a large amount of effects.

• The definition of poverty – depends on time and space– depends on each person.

• Violates numerous human rights• Affects some groups more than others• Affects some regions more than others

World Poverty

• More than half of the world ( more than 3 billion people) live on $2.50 a day

• More than 1 billion people entered the 21st century not knowing how to read or write their names

Kids

• There are 2.2 billion kids in the world

• 1 billion of kids live in poverty (1 out of every 2 kids in the world)

• 640 million don’t have where to live

• 400 million don’t have access to clean water

• 270 million don’t have access to medical services

• 10.6 million died in 2003 before turning 5 (approx. 29,000 kids a day)
