Hello and welcome to this, our 14th Oak Fair,

Thank you very much for coming and we very much hope that enjoy everything that is on offer around the event. Just like the 13 years previously we have grown a little more and I am proud to welcome the Pole Climbers to their first event here. They will show off their skills throughout the weekend racing each other up the 40-foot high poles found in the corner of the Machinery & Timber Yard section of the event. They will also be giving lessons on how it’s done and allow you the opportunity to test your skills.

Many of you regulars may notice that there has been a subtle layout change this year. We have moved the Archery, Scything and Trailer Rides to the front of the main house so please don’t miss out, head over there and have a go.

Given the dry summer that we have had, it may still be noticeable that there has been some work done down at the lake in the deer park. What you see is by no means a finished project, rather one that has started a bit early due to the opportunity given by the lake completely drying out and allowing us to properly dredge it. Once we have done this the next step will be to repair the Dam wall at the end making it watertight once again which we hope to do before next year’s fair. If you want to have a closer look, please take a trailer ride down and see for yourself.

There is plenty to do around the show but if there is anyone or anything that you can’t find, please come and see us at the Show Office (between Market Square and Conservation Row) and we will try help you out as best we can.

    Enjoy your day,

    Jack Langmead August 2018

PLAnKInGT H Robinson 1887 Double Blade Reciprocating Planking Saw Thought to have been installed new in 1887 to The Greystone Estate, near Lake Windermere where it was driven by a 16-foot overshot waterwheel via various overhead line shafts.

One of its main uses was cutting planks for coffin-making as at the time it was very efficient due to being able to cut two planks simultaneously. This reciprocating saw was taken out of use in the 1950s when it was replaced with a circular rack bench along side it.

The saw was dismantled and transported back to Dorset. Martin Richards the owner re-assembled it and mounted it on to a chassis to enable it to be towed and exhibited at various shows over the past 14 years. You can see it in the Machinery & Timber Yard area.
