MATERIALS LIST COLOR SWATCH PRE-K/ KINDERGARTEN Lesson 1 September 6, 2020 Lesson 1 9 - 6 - 2020 As we study Genesis 2, it is important to begin with prayer; we should thank God for His creation and request His guidance. As we read these Scriptures, we should be grateful. God created us! He knew we would sin and even cause His Son to die, but He formed us anyway. He also made a place for us. There are many things we take for granted. In a busy life, it can seem hard to take time to notice all God provides for us. God created time for us; we should use it to thank Him and serve Him. As you read through Genesis 2, it is hard not to notice that man and woman were formed last. God had a reason for this. He took six days to make man a place to live. He equipped it with everything man would need to survive, such as: light, air, food and the list goes on. Not only did God create a place for man first, He also prepared a work for him. He did not put man on the earth to do nothing. He had a work plan for man; man was to name the animals and take care of the garden. In verse 7, God formed His prized creation, Adam. He took time to mold him in His image. Then, with His own breath, gave him life. But, Adam was alone, so God made Eve. Eve, however, was not formed from the dust. She was taken from one of Adam’s ribs. She was a part of him, and they were the first family. They each had a specific role in this relationship. He was to care for her. She was to help him. He sent Jesus to die for us so that we could be with Him. Display the Lesson 1 Apply Visual to show how Jesus died for us. Explain why Jesus had to die for us. Share John 3:16. BONUS ACTIVITIES Have students retell the account of creation using the Lesson 1 Learn Visual. Sing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” reminding the children God made the entire world. Review the memory verse. Then give each child a chance to say it himself. Choose one or more: Hand out the Tell Cards. Instruct children to thank God for one thing He has created each day of this week. Have students practice thanking God for creation by working page 4 of the student leaflet. We should always notice the things God has blessed us with and be grateful for them. Give the children the Tell Cards. Prayer time is to be the calming part of class to prepare the students for the lesson.

You can ask your students for prayer request if it does not become too much of a distraction.

For this lesson, you may want to take time and thank God for making each person in class today (if you can, mention each student by name). Thank Him for giving us a place and a purpose.

Use the Scripture text (Genesis 2) or the narrative on page 1 of the student leaflet to share the lesson. If using the Scripture text, you may want to put it in your own words.

Choose one or more:

Bring Play-Doh or child-safe clay. Make sure to have enough for each child. Have the class sit down as you give each of them an equal portion. Next, tell students to try to mold a person from the clay as you read the lesson from Genesis 2 or page 1 of the student leaflet. After reading the biblical account, explain how God formed man from the dust of the ground and made him come to life. While we may mold things (like the students are doing with the clay), we will never have the power to bring that object to life. Only God has the power to give life, and we should be thankful He gave it to us. Have students look at page 2 of the student leaflet while you explain the memory verse to them.

If possible, take students outside to view God’s creation. Point out the different things God created. You may want to pack a small picnic breakfast (fruits, muffins, milk or juice) to help the children see other parts of creation that may not be in the churchyard. Remind the children that God created all of this for us as a place to live and take care of. We should be thankful God created all of this for us, and we should never take it for granted. We should always take care of what God has given us. We should take care of our bodies by practicing healthy habits (sleeping, eating, personal hygiene), and we take care of our home by keeping it clean (house and earth).

Have the children turn to page 3 of the student leaflet. As you go through the account of creation, have them color the part of the picture that corresponds with the part of creation that you are discussing. Along with coloring, have the children place the corresponding stickers on the page. God made things in the world to provide for man with food, clothes, shelter, jobs and so forth. Go over these things as you teach the lesson.

To review the lesson, help students review the days of creation with the Lesson 1 Learn Visual and point to each day helping them to remember. This visual can also help you teach today’s lesson if you choose. You can point or have students point to or identify each part of creation as you speak of it from the Scripture text or narrative on page 1 of the student leaflet. Another option is to cut out each day and attach each day to a board or storyboard.

Before class, hang the attendance chart in a special place in your classroom. Write each student’s name on a color section. As the student arrives, have him place his sticker on the attendance chart. Be sure to encourage your students to be there every week. Then introduce The ABC’s of Salvation Visual.

Choose one or more:

Have your class stand up in single file. Take a ball and bounce it to each child. As he catches the ball have him say the next words in today’s memory verse. Speed up the process as the children begin to commit the verse to memory.

Demonstrate how sin sticks to us by putting something sticky on your hands like honey or washable glue. Show the students how yucky or sticky sin can be by putting your hands together and picking up small pieces of paper or rice with your sticky fingers. Then use a wet paper towel to remove the goo. Explain how in this unit we are going to see how sin made life yucky and sticky for some people in the Bible.

Go over the five senses with students. Ask them about their eyes, what do they see. Question them about their ears, what do they hear. Mention their noses, what do they smell. Talk about their tongues, what are some things they taste. Finally, ask them about their hands, what do they feel. Now, tell students God made them and gave them their abilities to do these things. He made them special and loves each one of them.

Have the children color the picture on page 2 of the student leaflet. As they work, discuss how God made them unique and gave them each talents, things they are good at or like to do. Point out something about each student that makes him special; this can be a talent or characteristic.
