TRANSCRIPT
What is
ScratchJr?ScratchJr is an introductory programming language that enables young children
(ages 5-7) to create their own interactive stories and games. It uses graphical
programming blocks that children snap together to create programs. Students
can add their own recorded sounds and photos, and edit characters in a paint
editor. It is currently available as a free iPad app and it will soon be available in
Android and later this year as web-based.
It was developed through a collaboration between the Lifelong Kindergarten
Group at the MIT Media Lab and the DevTech Research Group at Tufts
University.
What is the Hour of Code?
“The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in
180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. One-
hour tutorials are available in over 30 languages. No experience needed. Ages 4
to 104.”
“The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to
demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.“
“Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps
nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will
have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.”
The main event is held during Computer Science Education Week in December.
This year the dates are December 7-13, 2015.
