July 23, 2012 NYCC Sailing Newsletter • 7001 hampton blvd • norfolk, va 23505• 423.4500 Session 2 is officially over and we have just two short weeks left of this Summer's sailing program. We had some great sailing weather this past week with a really great showing for the regatta on Wednesday night. May that continue for the last two regattas of the season. Beginner Class Our very large beginner group did really well to get on the water everyday which gave everyone the opportunity to skipper a ton. Most of the group really got the hang of upwind sailing and everybody got really comfortable in a sail boat. We hope to see all of y'all again for part of the third session or during next year's program. Intermediate Class Our intermediate group had some kids just coming up from the beginner class who did really well to keep up with the more experienced kids in the group. There are also a number of opti sailors in this group that are competing in regattas at other clubs. Ellie Maus, Sarah Smith, Galt Oliver and Christopher Robertson all travelled to Rappahannok River Yacht Club this past weekend to compete. The results are not yet available online but the sailors were well up there in a fleet of 30 optis. Sloops Class The sloops had a great showing at the regatta with 4 boats out racing. They have all greatly improved their boat handling and racing skills. Some of the group only just learned how to sail these past two weeks. SAILING N e w s l e t t e r Reminder: The American Rover trip is this Thursday, kids to be dropped off at the yacht club at 8.30am. If anyone has yet to email me to confirm that their child will be attending can they please do so asap. Also parents, grandparents and siblings are all welcome to join the sail at $9 per person.
