If poverty caused crime, then wealth would cause honesty, and we would not know names like Brett Kebble, Glen Agliotti etc. During this trai ning delegates will receive in-depth information on the causes of crime (which most police officers do not know) and they will receive a mind- bending bouquet of safety and anti-crime strategies. Delegates learn about the value of anti-graffiti work, how to prevent it from ever coming back to an area/wall, how to organize paint-overs, plant anti-graffiti plants and in general remove this link from the criminal chain, causing the rest of the chain to collapse.

INTERESTED IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE?

In 2008 the City of Cape Town (CoCT) recognized the crucial importance of unarmed citizens in

the fight against crime. In due course a task team, the Neighbourhood Watch Task Team

(NWTT), was launched to assist NW’es in fulfilling their mission. Focusing on problem solving

initially, the NWTT later evolved to become one of the primary training providers forcommunity groups in the Western Cape.

Deviating from the traditional training that was

presented by the Department of Community Safety

(DOCS), the NWTT was heartily welcomed by

persons from all strata of society. Its focused, direct

and lean training regime meant that delegates, of all

ages, could step into a room on any given morning and

exit that same afternoon as a powerful change agent

for society. The training is fully supported by DOCS

as well as by the Provincial Community Police Forum.

The training of the NWTT is based on that developed for the International Alliance of Guardian

Angels, who generously made their material available for the use of the CoCT. Unlike previous

training regimes, the NWTT focuses less on patrols and arrests than on re-engineering an entire

community to make it a harder target for criminals and a more attractive one for investors.

Free of charge, the training is presented at your facility or ours. All manuals are supplied and

copious examples are used throughout the training that lasts from 09h00 until 16h00 on Saturday

or weekdays. Alternative arrangements can be made as well that allows for training over the

course of 3 (three) evenings, from 19h00  –  21h00. Certificates are also issued to delegates.

The focus of the training is less about fighting crime and

far more on building safety. It is not of a physical nature

and delegates have overwhelmingly reported with

enthusiasm on the empowering nature of the course.

The training delivers cutting-edge research on

criminology and present delegates with the real causes of

crime, and no, UNEMPLOYMENT DOES  NOT

CAUSE CRIME! If

it did, crime

prevention would be

very simple  –  we would just have to lock up all unemployed

persons. If poverty caused crime, then wealth would cause

honesty, and we would not know names like Brett Kebble,Glen Agliotti etc. During this training delegates will receive

in-depth information on the causes of crime (which most

police officers do not know) and they will receive a mind-

bending bouquet of safety and anti-crime strategies.

Delegates learn about the value of anti-graffiti work, how to prevent it from ever coming back to

an area/wall, how to organize paint-overs, plant anti-graffiti plants and in general remove this

link from the criminal chain, causing the rest of the chain to collapse.

After the graffiti segment of the training they are taken

on a whirlwind tour of some 30 strategies that will teach

them how to combat street crimes and drugs in their

area, safely, cheaply, effectively and in such a manner

that they need never fear about becoming victimized by

criminals. They will learn how to combat gangs, in a safe and

humane way, make their children safe at school, as well

as in the street. They will learn how to use the power of

religious groups to make it impossible for dealers to sell

drugs and how to cut off the funding to gangs.

As part of the training, they are exposed to indigenous

plants that can make it difficult, if not impossible, for

criminals to break into their homes, find out how to

start their own glass-recycling business (free of

charge), learn how traditional policing is done (and

what the CoCT is doing differently), learn how to hold

schools accountable for the safety of learners, and what

to do about vagrants and stray dogs.
