National Grid are installing a new power plant in at Moorside on the west coast which will supply power to both Cumbria and Lancashire.

One route will head north from Moorside to Harker Substation nr Carlisle following the coast up to Maryport before heading inland to Harker. The other route is intended to head down the coast from Moorside to Barrow before being tunnelled across Morecambe Bay to reach the new power station at Heysham.

Consultations are currently being held to determine the routes overland that the py-lons will take and National Grid have written to those landowners they feel will be affected. They are intending to use the route of existing electricity pylons but will need to replace some and carry out some alterations.
