HERMANN RORSCHACH

ermann Rorschach was lived from the 8th November 1884

until the 1st April 1922. He was a Swiss Freudian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, best known for developing a projective test known as the Rorschach inkblot test. This test was reportedly designed to reflect unconscious parts of the personality that “project” onto the stimuli. Individuals were shown 10 inkblots, one at a time, and asked to report what objects or figures they saw in

each of them. The “Rorschach” test is a method of psychological evaluation. Psychologists use this test in an attempt to examine the personality characteristics and emotional functioning of their patients. This test is often employed in diagnosing underlying thought disorders and differentiating psychotic from non-psychotic thinking in cases where the patient is reluctant to openly admit to psychotic thinking.

uts are known to be healthy and nutritious, containing high-quality

protein, lots of vitamins and minerals as well as dietary fibre. They are also dairy and gluten-free. But Walnuts are the healthiest nut, they contain the highest level of antioxidants compared to other nuts. The antioxidants are also higher in quality and potency

than in any other nut. Antioxidants are good because they stop the chain reactions that damage cells in the body when oxidation occurs. The antioxidants found in walnuts are also two to 15 times as powerful as vitamin E, which is known to protect the body against damaging natural chemicals involved

in causing disease. Antioxidants are known to help protect the body against disease.

Research has shown that regular consumption of small amounts of nuts can reduce the risk of heart disease, some types of cancer, type two diabetes and other health problems.

Walnuts contain the highest level of antioxidants compared to other nuts.Phytonutrient research on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of

walnuts has moved this food further and further up the ladder of foods that are protective against metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular problems, and type 2 diabetes. Some phytonutrients found in walnuts - for example, the quinone juglone - are found in virtually no other commonly-eaten foods. Other phytonutrients - like the tannin tellimagrandin or the flavonol morin - are also rare and valuable as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients. These anti-inflammatory and antioxidant phytonutrients also help explain the decreased risk of certain cancers - including prostate cancer and breast cancer - in relationship to walnut consumption.

n Iran, pistachios are known as the “smiling nut.” In China, it’s

called the “happy nut.” Pistachios are also known as the “green almond.” It’s only the pistachios that have an open or no shell at all that will turn green because they are exposed to direct sunlight. Most pistachios have been dried in the sun as it is the best method of doing so. The green colour comes from chlorophyll. Chlorophyll makes it possible for plants to convert carbon dioxide and water, in the presence of sunlight, into oxygen and glucose. During this process of photosynthesis, chlorophyll produces energy, in the form of sugary carbohydrates, which will power all of the plant’s essential growth and development. This amazing molecule also gives plants their distinctive green colour. The trees are planted in orchards, and take approximately seven to ten years to reach significant production. Production is alternate bearing or biennial bearing, meaning the harvest is heavier in alternate years. Peak production is reached at approximately 20 years. Trees are

usually pruned to size to make the harvest easier. One male tree produces enough pollen for eight to twelve nut-bearing females. Harvesting in the United States and in Greece is often accomplished by using shaking

equipment to shake the nuts off the tree. In America, pistachios were once dyed red to disguise shell imperfections and make the nuts stand out in vending machines. Almost 90% of the fat found in pistachios is the healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats. Pistachios are a good source of fibre providing 3 grams per serving, that’s more than many types of whole fruit. Thanks to their high nutritional value and long storage life, pistachios were an indispensable travel item among early traders, including travellers across the ancient Silk Road that connected China with the West. February 26th is recognized by pistachio lovers as World Pistachio Day; a day to honour

art of the plum family, the almond tree (Prunus dulcis; Prunus

amygdalus) is native to North Africa, West Asia and the Mediterranean. The English word almond is derived from the French amande, which in turn is a derivative of the old Latin word for almond, amygdalus, literally meaning “tonsil plum.” Ancient Romans also referred to almonds as “Greek nuts,” since they were first cultivated in Greece. Almonds date back in print to the Bible. A recipe from the Forme of Cury, dating back to 1390, uses blanched, ground almonds in a gravy for oysters.

Throughout history, almonds have maintained religious, ethnic and social significance. The Bible’s “Book of Numbers” tells the story of Aaron’s rod that blossomed and bore almonds, giving the almond the symbolism of divine approval. Botanically-speaking, almonds are a fruit. On the tree, the fruit or drupe looks like a small, elongated peach with a hard greenish-gray husk. When mature, the husk splits open to reveal the shell which in turn contains the nut meat. The almond tree was brought to California from Spain

in the mid-1700’s by the Franciscan Padres. The moist, cool weather of the coastal missions, however, did not provide optimum growing conditions. It wasn’t until the following century that trees were successfully planted inland. By the 1870’s, research and cross-breeding had developed several of today’s prominent almond varieties. By the turn of the 20th century, the almond industry was firmly established in the Sacramento and San Joaquin areas of California’s great Central Valley.
