The „Old‟ gives way to the „New‟… It‟s been a very long summer and the rains

took their own sweet time coming. But when it rained, it literally poured!

Thankfully the wearisome part of the year is behind us now and the campus, as

well as its residents, is once again full speed ahead.

Scholastic and co-scholastic activities initiated in the beginning of the academic

session resulted in new friendships and newer aspirations combined with

rejuvenated spirits all around have thereafter speeded up the pace of activities in

these past months.

Whereas on the one hand students and their teachers have covered much ground in

academics and got the Formative Assessment I and II as well as the Summative

Assessment I out of the way, co-scholastic activities in the cultural and sports

domain have also kept pace. The PGPIS students participated in various activities,

a comprehensive mix of inter-group wall magazine, spell bee, painting, music and

dance competitions resulted in the spotting of many a rising star. The certified

reading program initiated by the library department which commenced at the

beginning of the current session, also gathered steam as many students enrolled.

Besides these, sports too remained an integral part of the students‟ schedule

inspired as usual by the thought that healthy minds prosper in healthy bodies.

Needless to say, the latter retained their reputation as the most popular aspect of

schooling from the students‟ point of view.

A number of events related to career and guidance counseling for the students and

in-service training for the teachers also punctuated the daily routine of the campus.

As an outcome of these, we are now prepared to expand and diversify the motifs

on our canvas of schooling with the introduction of the Adolescence Education

Program. The AEP has emerged as the new flagship program of the CBSE after

the introduction of the CCE and we are resolved to ensure that our students derive

maximum benefit from it.

“Success” as the renowned author and self-help expert Rober t Collier said, “is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” While we kept our minds and efforts focused on the „doings‟, success has been „happening‟ to us quietly behind our backs so to speak. The cultural competitions and activities culminated with M-A-D Cultural Expo on 7

th August 2013 which was a grand success have

proved that we too are at par with some very accomplished and acclaimed schools.

Lao Tzu has somewhere said, “Accomplish but do not boast; accomplish without

show, accomplish without arrogance, accomplish without grabbing, accomplish

without forcing.” This is a piece of advice I reserve for all of us here at School,

but I would be failing in my duties if I did not acknowledge the generous and

unflinching support that we have received from Mrs. & Dr. Palani G. Periasamy,

Founders and our superiors and the entire community of our stake holders without

which this achievement would not have been possible.

That said, lest some of us pause to rest on our laurels, I would do equally well to

remind ourselves, “If what you have done yesterday still looks big to you, you

haven't done much to day.” ― Mikhail Gorbachev

First & Second Formative Assessment:

The focal point of academic activities during the

month of August was the completion of these two

assessments. As part of the first formative assessment

students of Grade I to X appeared for class tests,

MCQ tests and unit tests while Grade XI appeared for

their second and third fortnightly tests and IIT-JEE

foundation test series. Grade VI to X also went

through the IIT – JEE foundation test series.

As part of the Second Formative assessment various

activities, such as interdisciplinary project – „Election

System‟, still/working model making, report writing,

etc. were organised. Students were very actively

involved in the whole process of election system and

interwoven different disciplines through street plays,

extempore, campaigns, interviews, panel discussions,

slogan and logo designing, posters, pre and exit poll

surveys and one on one vote canvasing. Finally, by

12th August students have come forward with

wonderful reports on their two month long

interdisciplinary project. Plenty of still and working

models related to different themes/topics too were

prepared and displayed in the classrooms.

Fancy Dress Competition (LKG to I) – 17.08.2013

Role playing is one of the

most important tools of

learning particularly at the

pre-primary

and primary

level. Keeping this in view, we

conducted the Fancy Dress competition

for the children from LKG to grade I.

The purpose of conducting the

competition was not only to blend

learning with fun but also to develop

confidence in the little ones by giving

them an opportunity to get on the stage and speak in

front of an audience.

Recitation (English, Hindi & Tamil)-17.08.2013:

Poetry is the essence of literature. To spread the

aroma of poetry; English,

Hindi, Tamil poem recitation

competition was held on

August 17th for grade I to XI.

The poems were recited

beautifully; keeping in mind

the rhythm, mood, diction and

expressions. Certain poems

recited, managed to create

images in the minds. This

competition enlivened the mood

and enabled the children to develop

taste and appreciation for Poetry.

The aroma of Poetry shall linger on

and on and on . . . for day‟s altogether.

First Summative Assessment – 10 to 21-10-2013:

Music-Art-Dance Expo – 7th

September 2013

The much awaited Music-Art-Dance Cultural Expo

of 7th September was a memorable event as students

performed different dances and songs in an

outstanding manner. The event began with the Art

exhibition which was opened up

for the parents and visitors by

Dr. Palani G. Periasamy, the

Chairman. The paintings and

drawings exhibited really

amazed the parents and other visitors. Certificates

were given away to

winners of different

competitions conducted

in the First Semester. To

add to everyone‟s delight

a colourful dance and music extravaganza was

presented by the

students. While

these dances and

songs earned a

thundering

applause, it was the Grade III students with their

Nepali dance stole the show with their perfect

costume and well-coordinated

steps that had everyone jiving to

their beats. The programme came

to a close with the mesmerizing

sight as all students came on the

stage with lit up candles and sung Vande Matram

with much patriotic fervour. Thus an enchanting

evening culminated and with it both happiness and

nostalgia crept into each one on the campus.

Faculty Development Program – 14.09.2013:

The basic objective of FDP is to improve the quality

of teaching to improve

the quality of students of

the school so that they

are able to do better in

life. A one day faculty

development program

focused on staff

motivation and planning for the second semester was

conducted on 14th September. The methodology

used for training included presentations, video

shows, and group activities. This has helped the

teachers to finalise date sheets and curriculum

planning for all activities of the second semester and

decide up on field trips,

interdisciplinary assignments

and projects. The newly

introduced Open Book Test

and Assessment of Speaking

and Listening Skills too were

discussed and the mode of implementation were

finalised.

Open Day–I Semester Progress Report–21.09.13

On the last working day of first semester we have

invited the parents along with their wards to collect

the progress report of their wards. Parents were

requested to go through all the activities done by the

students at the school. They were able to meet all the

teachers and discuss in detail about the progress of

their wards. We received very positive feedback

from the parents.
