Tremendous possibilities and job security exist in the nursing field for those with a desire to touch lives. Nursing professionals combine the art of caring with the science of health care to promote health, prevent disease, and help patients and their families cope with illness. A career in nursing provides the opportunity to reach out to people and to truly make a difference each and every day.

Associate of Science DegreeRegistered Nurse (R.N.)Nurses have never been more important to health care than they are today. In fact, registered nursing constitutes the largest health care occupation with 2.3 million jobs and it is expected to continue to grow.

At Daytona State College, you will receive the technical skills and theory needed to function successfully as an RN. You will learn how to:• Observeandassesssymptoms,reactionsand

progress in patients• Assistphysiciansduringsurgeries,treatmentsand examinations• Administermedications• Assistinconvalescenceandrehabilitation• Developandmanagenursingcareplans• Helppatientstakestepstoimproveormaintain

their health

You also will participate in valuable clinical experiences at local extended care facilities, hospitals and other community agencies. After completing the program, you will be prepared to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) for registered nurses.

If you choose to continue your education, Daytona State College now offers a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.-OR-Daytona State College's articulation agreement with the University of Central Florida and Bethune-Cookman University also gives you the option to continue your education and complete your bachelor's degrees in Nursing.

R.N. Program Options:Daytona State College offers two unique program options for you to choose from based on your background and experience.

•Nursing (Generic)This program is designed for the student with no prior nursing background.

• Transition into Professional NursingAn accelerated program for the licensed practical nurse, certified paramedic or registered respiratory therapist.

Daytona State's nursing programs are acceptable by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The college is an approved provider of nursing education by the Florida Board of Nursing.

Vocational Credit CertificateThe vocational credit programs are excellent stepping stones to advanced nursing careers and offer flexible work schedules that may be of interest if you have career and family responsibilities. In these programs you will learn basic care skills that will allow you to:

Certificate Program OptionsIf you have a desire to help people and are looking for a career that is in high demand, then one of the following options may be just what you are looking for:

• Patient Care Assistant (CNA)Trained to perform basic patient care under supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Prepares graduate to work in long- term care, hospital and home health environments.Approved provider of nursing education by the Florida Board of Nursing.

• Practical Nursing (Licensed Practical Nurse)

LPNs provide hands-on bedside care under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. In addition to basic care skills, LPN students will learn how to:
