It’s a lovely place, connected directly to downtown via 4 distinct bus lines, operating all day and night. While technically part of the Verdun area, Île-des-Soeurs has its own waterside vibe and lush green-spaces, including famous Vancouver park, one of Montreal’s few remaining woodland reserves. It was originally a largely agricultural community (operated largely by nuns, which explains the island’s interesting name) so it is ripe with many tall green grasses, trees and bike paths weaving in and out of small woodsy areas. These paths are in turn connected to Montreal’s main island via the Banks of the St-Lawrence bike path. Other than its obvious natural appeal, the island offers a great many residential opportunities for families and young professionals who enjoy being close to the city (about 15 minutes from downtown, in fact) but away from the hustle and bustle. It’s a mix of old and new, with its large ancestral-style single homes alongside the numerous modern condo towers overlooking the rushing waters of the St-Lawrence. The island also features a very tight-knit community, including an “island scouts” association and a property owners and tenants association. Local amenities include an elementary school, numerous parks, a grocery store and a number of small shops
