• Established in 1990, the EUROCRAFT brand of Inflatable Life Preserving products continues to thrive, with its own dedicated team and manufacturing cell within the production centre.

The origins of Nufox Rubber were in 1981, in Ashton under Lyne Manchester, formed by a partnership of Derek Nubold and Fox Petroleum.

Nufox made some small acquisitions as the business grew.

Nufox relocated to a larger facility in Middleton, Manchester.

In the following years two companies were acquired; firstly Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Ltd, and then Dunlop Extrusions, both with a long heritage of producing high quality industrial rubber products. In addition both companies had been a part of the famous BTR conglomerate

The benefit of these two companies joining was the addition of a number of highly skilled technical people with a volume of long established rubber intellectual property, in the form of formulations and production techniques.

In 2007 we acquired the specialist hose business of Lee Healey, who have been hand building hoses since 1933.

This was followed in 2010 by Eurocraft, which had a long history of producing specialist inflatable products for the rescue service, marine and leisure industries.

Leyland & Birmingham Rubber

We are proud that the long manufacturing tradition of Leyland and Birmingham extrusions for the transport industry and beyond has been maintained, now under the Nufox parent brand.

Leyland and Birmingham Rubber Limited has been existence since the late 1800’s and as a result we are able to draw on knowledge and experience dating back to the earliest beginnings of the UK rubber industry.

We have developed our capabilities through investment, innovation and driving change and now we have a core expertise in manufacturing extruded rubber profiles, primarily for the vehicle and train manufacture sectors, but also across the industrial spectrum from general engineering through marine, construction, transportation and defence, from blue chip to SME’s.

Today, our manufacturing plant is situated near to the M62 in Middleton, Manchester. Using state of the art production equipment and processes backed by our engineering and technical expertise, Leyland and Birmingham Rubber products are produced by Nufox Rubber who are focussed totally on customer needs, client satisfaction and the very best after sales support.

With a huge knowledge resource we offer superb support and development facilities. Dunlop Extrusions

The Dunlop Extrusions name is synonymous with extensive product development ion the rubber industry over many years and part of a proud tradition of British manufacturing with an iconic brand.

Dunlop Extrusions are now part of Nufox Rubber with a manufacturing plant situated near to the M62 in Middleton, Manchester. Our production capabilities and experience have been honed from technical knowledge and design skills developed over many years.

Nufox have grown their business through investment, innovation and change management to create a core expertise in the manufacture of a wide range of rubber extrusions. The Dunlop Extrusions sub brand of products are designed, specified and produced for clients in a wide spectrum of industrial sectors encompassing general engineering applications together with specialist solutions for marine, construction, transport and defence arenas whether within small and medium size business right through to some of the largest multi -national companies that we are proud to supply.

Backed by our extensive engineering and technical expertise, supported by state of the art production processes and equipment, Dunlop Extrusions products from Nufox are totally focussed on customer requirements and satisfaction with the very best after sales support.

Whether for a standard line or a customised product Dunlop Extrusions can engineer, refine, develop and produce precision tooling, moulds, dies and formers. Our in-house engineering facility is at the hub of our business and is key to our maintaining control of quality, costs and our exceptional customer service levels.

Lee Healey

The Lee Healey Company Ltd was formed in 1933 by Charles Lee and Ebenezer Healey. Equipment, materials, processes and working conditions have all been developed and improved over time, but the skills to hand-craft shaped, branched and bell-ended rubber hoses have been carefully nurtured and passed down through successive workforces and is now in our capable hands in the Middleton factory.

These modern premises allow us to continue to manufacture radiator, heater, and breather hoses, rubber seals, trims and glazing strip for classic and modern cars, trucks and buses.

Our Lee Healey replacement rubber hoses are particularly suitable for classic & vintage cars from 1918 to the 1970s. These parts would be recognisable to workers decades ago on assembly lines across Europe and today are in high demand amongst the vintage and classic car enthusiasts community who still regard Lee Healey as an important source of replacement parts for their treasured vehicles.

We are extremely proud to be continuing the Lee Healey tradition and will be happy to assist you in any element of vehicle restoration within our product range. If we don’t have existing tooling we can start with a sample of the part you need to replace and reverse engineer a drawing, die or former and re-create your component in modern materials. Our technical team have extensive experience and look forward to being of assistance.

Eurocraft Inflatables

Eurocraft Inflatables have been part of the Nufox family of brands since 2010 and has added to our extensive range of specialist products and applications.

This has allowed us to build Eurocraft Inflatables reputation as a high quality manufacturer of emergency inflatable products for the rescue industry and beyond.

Our Eurocraft Inflatables range of products include rescue paths, rescue sleds and rafts, temporary pontoons, self righting bags, hypothermia baths and a number of lifting bag options.

Our entire range features first grade materials and products engineered for strength and durability, manufactured under a quality management system certified by Lloyd’s Register to ISO9001: 2008. In addition to our standard range we are happy to discuss customised solutions for specific operational requirements.

We are carrying forward skills and craftsmanship developed over more than 40 years. Now with new investment in technical and engineering resource to support our production team, we have created a true centre of excellence at our factory in Manchester, UK. Here we have the full facilities to develop and manufacture quality inflatable products for UK and overseas emergency rescue organisations, including fire brigades, coastguards and mountain rescue teams together with other industrial, leisure and military applications.

Nufox have state of the art, manufacturing lines for rubber profiles and engineering facilities to create, design and produce all process tooling in-house and our own dedicated technical resource.

This means that whether your rubber profiles are 30g per Meter, or over 30kg per Meter in standard EPDM, high grade FKM or an intermediate grade you can rely on Nufox to deliver a quality solution, expertly engineered to meet your requirements.

We can take your concept through design, sampling, to finished product in house, with complete control throughout.

We have dies to produce rubber profiles both solid and hollow; a few of which are bespoke. Many dies are Nufox owned and therefore can be offered without development cost.

Our processes include:

• Traditional pan curing in lengths up to 3.5 metres, allowing for preforming into customer specified shapes, rings, bow fenders etc.

• Constant Vulcanized profiles which exhibit a cleaner finish and can be offered in long lengths up to a few hundred metres dependant upon profile size and ease of handling.

• Salt bath cured profiles (another type of constant vulcanization process) giving better costings due to the higher manufacturing speed achievable

Moulding

The unique aspects of rubber product design can often lead to unforeseen problems in the performance or manufacture of a part.

Nufox supply a wide variety of precision moulded seals that are frequently used in technically demanding markets such as Rail, Defence and Oil & Gas.

Our precision moulded seals apply to a vast range of applications, including Buffers, Bellows, Spacers, Covers, Sealing Rings and Trim to name a few.

We use specialist mould makers to ensure the quality and accuracy of our output, whilst our Application Engineers ensure all of our moulded seals are designed and developed using specifically formulated elastomeric compounds tailored to meet customers’ specific requirements.

Fabrication

• Shaping uncured profiles and sheeting and vulcanizing on formers producing complex 3D shapes.

• Bonding cured profiles to fabrics, plastics and metals to manufacture inflatable assemblies for pharmaceutical, environmental, marine, transport and defence industries.

• Bonding fabric reinforced sheeting into 3D shapes to make gas storage balloons, fire prevention equipment, fire and rescue products and leisure equipment.

Nufox specialise in creating complex rubber fabrications such as ladder gaskets, compensating seals and baffles using craft skills developed over many years.

Nufox manufacture and supply ‘Eurocraft’ branded specialist equipment to UK and overseas emergency rescue organisations, including fire brigades, coastguards and mountain rescue teams.

• Rescue rafts - designed as towable high capacity floating platforms, with flat rear access for ease of rescue.

• Rescue path - an inflatable rescue platform designed for rapid deployment over ice, mud, shallow water, quicksand or unstable ground.

• Pathfinder rescue sleds - a versatile rescue platform for the secure recovery and transfer of casualties from shallow water, mud, and snow or other areas not accessible by conventional rescue craft.

• Hypothermia Rescue Basket - always ready for use when warm water is added and have capacity to treat two victims simultaneously.

• Wave Skimmers - Eurocraft Wave Skimmers are used widely in the Mediterranean, particularly where repair services are few and far between.

• White Water Rafts, Canoes & Kayaks - The Eurocraft range of white water rafts is widely used by the world’s river runners from the Amazon to the Zambezi and are designed to serve the needs of the professional outfitter, raft rental operations and adventure holiday organisers who understand the need to invest in quality.

• Flume Rafts & Watercoasters - Nufox manufacture from tough, hard working, long lasting and fade resistant Hypalon which allows them to stand many seasons of use.

Design & Development

In many projects, the use of a rubber seal, gasket or fabrication is often paramount to the success of a project. But often this is only considered in depth at a late stage in most projects.

We always try and get involved from the start to ensure the best possible solution. Once the initial design has been proposed, the technical team at Nufox work with our customer to turn the concept into reality.

We will look at the application and consider the best raw material to use –this will then continue to initial product prototype for review or in some applications will be taken to ‘fit and function’ trials.

Once prototypes are approved, we take the product into production and schedule the manufacturing programme, closely linked with our quality control and inspection process.

Speciality Compounding

Compound is the backbone of all the product we manufacture and so its important we match up the right material for the right application.

The selection will be based on the environment the product will be exposed to during its service life. Also consideration should be given to any certification that may be required. This can extend to fire testing, fume toxicity or water potable.

In most cases we are able to go to our well selected compounds we hold in house at our raw materials stores, these are tried and tested to meet the needs of most applications. If some more specialised material is required for the application, we can refer to our extensive library of formulations.

This has been built up with the knowledge of technicians form Dunlop, Leyland and Birmingham and other sources of technical rubber formulation. If the application is more complex, we can assist in having compound developed and tested to meet the exact requirements of the project. This is best taken after the other routes have been explored first.

In some cases we are able to produce product prototypes if a material with similar characteristics, while the custom compound is being developed and tested. This can result on improved time lines.

One of the most important steps in producing technical rubber products is bases in experienced tooling design, leading to the production of high quality tooling. We have our own in house engineering team who can assist in converting your design concept in to reality.

The engineering of rubber production tooling requires many skills, these range from the most suitable tooling metals, through to the study of material behaviour patterns during the curing process.

The benefit of our in-house tooling production gives our customers reduced time to produce first off pre production samples.

Precision Extrusions

Our expertise as a rubber extrusions supplier has helped develop profiles from round, square and rectangular sections through to complex shapes with internal bridge work, designed to match the precise needs of our customers.

All formulations for our rubber extrusions, from standard grade EPDM to the highest spec Viton®, are carefully matched by our technical staff to the production lines for optimum cure speed and maximum efficiency.

Silicone Extrusions

Nufox are a specialist silicone extrusions manufacturer producing bespoke profiles frequently used in highly technical markets.

Silicone extrusions are compounded for resistance to temperatures from -80 to +200C and beyond, and all using only FDA approved ingredients, our silicone rubbers cover a range of colours and hardness, to ensure stability of final product. Detailed colour matching is available.

They offer you high quality and high performance over a diversity of sealing applications in the food, pharmaceutical and other industries where safety is paramount. We have special compounds, for example, conforming to BS6853 for door and window seals in the rail industry to comply with their strict fire-safety requirements.

Whether O-ring cord, tubing or a critical seal for an aerospace application, all our silicone extrusions are subject to the same high quality standards and attention to our customers’ needs.

Hatch seals

Nufox are a specialist marine hatch seals manufacturer, providing seals for cargo covers, access doors, watertight doors and skylights in a wide range of marine applications.

Marine hatch seals, which are also known as hatch covers and watertight door seals, can be produced from an assortment of different rubbers according to different applications, and also to meet special varying specifications. Nufox produce special marine hatch seals for all kinds of different kinds of ocean-going vessels and applications, these vary from cargo ships, oil tankers, chemical tankers right up to our Royal Naval ships.

We combine this with our technical ability and know how to produce the marine hatch seals in a wide range of different materials i.e. Neoprene, EPDM and Natural Rubber, all of which are widely used in/for hatch seal production. In particular Neoprene is used where higher temperatures are experienced or where ozone protection is required. Nitrile options are available where gas and oil resistance is a prerequisite.

We can provide standard seals or help specify and design a bespoke solution, either from drawings you supply or match any current seal in-situ that may need to be replaced.

Rubber Fenders

Nufox are a specialist rubber fenders manufacturer, providing a range of high quality rubber fenders, buffers and strakes to your design or popular format, using only first grade compounds to ensure your extruded fenders meet the requirements suitable for the application and environment specified.

Our rubber fenders provide optimum impact resistance, which offers the perfect solution in the marine sector for protecting jetties, pontoons, piers, quay-sides or even your boat, whilst withstanding exposure to air and sea water, in highly trafficked areas of buildings where vehicles and trollies can cause damage to the infrastructure. They are especially useful in applications such as hospitals, warehouses, loading bays and car parks where wall corners and delicate installations needs to be protected. Our fenders are also regularly specified for use as speed bumps for traffic calming – ‘sleeping policemen’

Rubber fenders can be supplied in other compounds to suit special requirements and are available in custom colours or corporate colours. Bespoke fenders can be made to order, from cable protectors for offices through to fire hose protection.

Inflatable Seals

Nufox designs, develops and manufactures high quality custom-made Inflatable Seals

Inflatable seals can solve many static and dynamic sealing challenges and can present more cost-effective alternatives to more traditional mechanical sealing solutions.

Inflatable Seals are especially effective in sealing applications where there is a requirement for a rapid sealing cycle; applications where the seal must provide an airtight, or fluid tight, positive seal and applications where the tolerances between two sealing surfaces are too large for more traditional sealing methods.

• Door seals on underground trains to keep noise levels to an acceptable level.

• Platform seals on vessels at sea to prevent water and weather ingress.

• Seals on filters inspection panels for the dust extraction industry.

Vulcanised Profiles

Nufox manufactures high quality extruded and hot vulcanised products (high tolerances on dimensional accuracy and material consistency for example). Such products are used in a wide variety of different OEM applications where the cost of a moulded seal (especially tooling) is prohibitive.

These custom made parts are manufactured using Nufox’s in-house extrusion facilities; the compounds used achieve market leading levels of ‘compression set’. The highly developed hot vulcanisation process, developed by Nufox, gives custom extruded products very high joint strength. Typically, our joint strength is 80-90% of a fully moulded product, yet gives shape, profile, flexibility and speed of turn-round!

Rescue Path

Nufox brand Eurocraft manufacture the Rescue Path, an inflatable rescue platform designed for rapid deployment over ice, mud, shallow water, quicksand or unstable ground. It is highly portable, self-inflating and provides a stable platform from which rescuers can operate quickly and safely. This means casualties can be recovered speedily and transported securely.

Rescue paths are easily joined together with Carabineers to provide safe operation with a longer out-reach to create pontoons, platforms and access paths. Made from high-grade Polychloroprene coated polyester fabric, with polyester rope and stainless steel fittings, our rescue path is tough, rot and chemical resistant and provides excellent wet slip resistance, so rescuers can operate confidently and securely.

Rescue paths are strong enough to hold the weight of the average man when fully inflated and supported close to each end.

Nufox brand Eurocraft manufacture the Pathfinder Rescue Sled for the secure recovery and transfer of casualties from shallow water, mud, and snow or other areas not accessible by conventional rescue craft.

Our rescue sleds are exceptionally manoeuvrable and provides a stable working base for marine rescue, which is easily towed, paddled or guided by line transfer. Using Swiftwater rescue techniques, Pathfinder is a highly effective recovery platform in fast flowing water.

Pathfinders can double up using a twinning rig to form a unified highly stable catamaran to accommodate up to 3 stretchers across the hulls. Twinned sleds operated by two rescue personnel significantly reduce risks in hazardous situations.

Tough and sturdy when deployed, Pathfinder rescue sleds are also fully stowable and can be carried comfortably in a standard backpack. Manufactured using the highly stable drop thread fabric resulting in a highly buoyant and solid platform for rescuers to work from.

Nufox brand Eurocraft manufacture the Rescue Raft, designed as a towable high capacity floating platform with flat rear access for safe and comfortable rescue of disabled, elderly people or those with reduced mobility.

The detailed design of the rear platform has been created so as to be wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

The stowed raft has been designed to be highly portable and will quickly inflate at the rescue site from standard compressed air cylinders to ensure there is no delay in commencing a rescue.

Eurocraft Rescue Rafts from Nufox are constructed with an inflatable floor made from drop thread fabric giving a solid stable base giving better footing for both rescuers and rescued alike.

Self Righting Bags

Nufox brand Eurocraft manufacture the Self Righting Bag, an essential safety feature to ensure rapid inversion in the case of capsize in inclement weather and proven to save lives when employed.

Our bags are used in both the leisure and commercial sector and are renowned for their strength and durability.

Usually mounted on an A-frame, each bag is designed specifically for the boat in question, specifying volume taking in to account the weight, load and beam of the vessel, with the aim that inflation and righting place will take place within 20 seconds of implementation.

Self Righting Bags are designed to inflate manually; normally with a pull cord and using specified compressed gas cylinders.

All our systems can be supplied with all relevant valves, gas bottles and firing systems where appropriate. We can also offer servicing and maintenance for all our righting bag systems going forward.

Hypothermia Rescue Basket

Nufox brand Eurocraft manufacture inflatable Hypothermia Rescue Basket, crafted from distinctive orange and black Hypalon® coated polyester. They are designed for easy stowage and rapid deployment using the double action hand pump provided.

The Hypothermia Rescue Basket is always ready for use, allowing the patient to remain in as horizontal a position as possible during rescue. This will help prevent shock and make it easier for the patient's heart to maintain blood flow to the brain. This position is particularly important for patients taken from the water.

Hypothermia Rescue Basket comes with the added benefit of having capacity to treat two patients simultaneously.

Rescue Air Lifting Bags

Nufox brand Eurocraft manufacture specialist Air Lifting Bags, producing a wide range of options both standard and bespoke, tailored to clients exacting standards of durability and across a number of key applications.

VEHICLE AIR LIFTING BAGS - built for strength and reliability.

We use only test-proven materials; heavy duty fabric coated with Grade 1 Hypalon® rubber and grip-face lifting surfaces on the main unit to ensure power lifting with minimised slip risk and protection of your asset from corrosive spills.

Air lifting bags can be used in conjunction with Anti-roll Cushions during the recovery of overturned vehicles, to assist vehicles running in soft terrain where the standard jacking devices are not suited and are used by various military forces for vehicle recovery and similar tasks.

SPECIAL AIR LIFTING BAGS - specialised applications require their own design solution.

Lightweight yet tough and durable, Dunnage Bags are the ecological answer to securing containerised goods, equipment or other valuable assets from shifting and being damaged during transit or handling. Our Dunnage Bags stow flat when not in service but are easily inflated, simple to use, and designed to give you maximum versatility.

They provide air-cushioned protection eliminating the need for wood, plastic or polystyrene, which can be less reliable and can be subject to import restrictions.
