Dear Parents and Guardians
Last Friday our student leaders received their school leadership badges at our celebration assembly. This was a proud moment for those who were elected and I am sure they will be wonderful representatives of their fellow students. Student leadership is quite simply what it sounds like; leadership on a student level. Why is this an important characteristic for a school to have? because schools, whether small or large, have similar attributes to those of a village or community.
As a school community there are hundreds of students, all from different backgrounds, with different beliefs, different values, and different personalities all coming together with different focuses in life. Students share goals and beliefs, the most important goal is to be accepted and to be confident individuals when discussing what is important to them as they progress through their school life. I know our newly elected leaders are a highly effective group of individuals and I look forward to working with them over the coming months. Congratulations everyone!
National Ride2School Day will happen Friday, 17th March.
Once again, we're inviting all family members and students to re-live the fun of riding to school by joining in the celebrations. The Nightcliff hub of schools, The Essington School, St Paul’s, Nightcliff Middle and Nightcliff Primary School have worked together to promote this special event. It would be great if we could have as many students as possible participating in this wonderful activity.
To capture this special event we will have photographers and a special photography drone operated by a professional company who will capture photos of the activity around the school and the Nightcliff schools precinct. (No photographs of students will be used without media permission) The photographs and video will be used by the school in promoting our active and safe travel to school program.
The drone will operate from a non-student area at the front of the school and the following guidelines apply for students and staff whilst the drone is in operation.
1. Do not approach or distract the drone pilot while the drone is in flight. Stay outside the markers. 2. Do not approach or distract the drone pilot while the drone is taking off and landing. Stay outside the markers. 3. Do not throw/kick anything in the direction of the drone. 4. If, in the unlikely event, the drone is forced into a landing outside the designated area - do not approach while the propellers are moving. 5. Try not to wave and jump about in front of the drone while we are filming - the footage looks better if you act naturally.
Congratulations to Mr. Hauser’s class on a wonderful performance at our last assembly. Gurrumul was very excited that our students were dancing to his music and most impressed that our students were learning about the importance of Indigenous culture and how music connects with his life and country. This has been very popular on Gurrumul’s Facebook page and also thank you to Michael Hohnen of Skinnyfish Music for supporting this. As always, if you are in the school grounds please drop in and say hello.
Best Wishes Graham Chadwick

Our NPS Tigers have backed up their undefeated 2016 AFLNT Inter-School Premiership with another undefeated premiership at the Darwin region School AFL Gala Day last Wednesday at TIO Stadium. Our students competed in Pool A, the top pool of the competition and all performed outstandingly against all of their opponents. One student performance stood out at the competition was that of Vice Captain Lewis Robbins who kicked 5 goals at the lightning competition which included a 3 goal haul against Larrakeyah PS. Another key feature of the carnival was our new compulsory NPS school sport rule of all students having to wear Head Guards and Mouth Guards. NPS has now become the first school in the Northern Territory to enforce this rule and we have drawn praise from officials at AFLNT, Darwin Region Schools and two AFLW Crows players who were present on the day. As a school we purchased our own set of head guards and have arranged for students to receive free mouth guards from the NT Government. Our Nightcliff Primary School Sports program believes in Safe, Successful Students and these students last Wednesday were: Damon Krake (Captain), Lewis Robbins (Vice Captain), Christopher Pascoe, Balraaj Singh Chahil, Daniel Amoko,, Nikitas Karanikolas, Alexander James, Travis McDougall, Geordie Race, Pierre Kwana, Leon Zammit, Jack Hewett, Rhys McIntyre, Angus Robbins and William Innes.
