Background

In 2015, the NSW Department of Planning and Environment developed and undertook public consultation research relating to the Sydenham to Bankstown Corridor. The purpose of the online survey was to: get feedback from the community to help guide the revitalisation of the

11 station precincts; and raise awareness of the draft Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal

Corridor Strategy being prepared by the Department of Planning and Environment.

The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage a broad spectrum of the local community. Further consultation will continue to be undertaken as the project progresses. This report contains findings from the 2015 survey.

1:You need to introduce more affordable housing managed by CHPs. The horse has bolted on housing affordability in Marrickville - the market just wont deliver housing for 'normal' people2:Please consider the heritage of the area and the beautiful houses that are under threat by "progress". And the fact that there is no major roads that will be able to handle the increase in traffic this proposal represents. We dont want to be another Waterloo - apartment buildings and gridlocked streets.3:- Clearways along Victoria Road in Marrickville during weekends- Better lighting and improved footpaths between Sydenham station and Marrickville- Bike lanes on a separated gradient to the city4:Development should be carefully planned to maintain and enhance the current character of the area. Apartment blocks should be sympathetic in scale to the existing/neighbouring housing .5:Focus on sustainability - any development should aim to have net export of waste (water, organic and inorganic waste, energy) - this means innovation at the precinct planning and development stage to ensure closed loop systems are implemented and renewable energy used (ideally we implement passive design so that energy not needed in the first place)6:Prioritising pedestrians above motor vehicle traffic. More local influence and say over traffic and transport decisions, such as at grade pedestrian crossings, improved sequencing (less wait time) for pedestrians.7:Look at the area around Canterbury & Burwood Stations - don't allow that to occur around Hurlstone Park. Maintain the village atmosphere - infill should go to underutilised industrial and commercial areas of Marrickville and Sydenham, not established residential areas with significant architectural value. Masterplanning for the area should be taken away from local Councils, who couldn't organise a chook raffle (see Canterbury Road as an example of how not to plan). Don't destroy communities in the pursuit of a one size fits all approach. Leave Hurlstone Park zoning alone.8:Many new development approved with commercial ground floor - not taken updevelopments on canterbury road are of poor architectural quality. relationship across council boundaries important eg canterbury road.9:Reducing the dominance of cars. More streets that are designed as shared spaces with pedestrians and cyclists. Less space given to parking and more to greenery. For example replace the Illawarra Rd carpark with a park10:- We need more nightlife (bars, small bars etc)

- Buildings should be taller, but better designed, with design quality a mandatory element of major development.

- An Eat Street,11:Reduce car speed to less than 40km around places, like community centres, shopping strips, train stations.12:The industrial spaces around Marrickville Metro and the train line near Murray St are an absolute eyesore. Rezone the whole area as residential, push all that crumbling graffiti-attracting factory and warehouse space into dedicated industrial areas somewhere else: there's plenty of that kind of thing a few minutes drive away on the final approach path at Alexandria and Mascot, why have it embedded in residential areas?13:The industrial spaces around Marrickville Metro and the train line near Murray St are an absolute eyesore. Rezone the whole area as residential, push all that crumbling graffiti-attracting factory and warehouse space into dedicated industrial areas somewhere else: there\'s plenty of that kind of thing a few minutes drive away on the final approach path at Alexandria and Mascot, why have it embedded in residential areas?14:Street lighting in several streetsPreservation of existing houses and buildings15:Plant way more green grass, native plant and tree verges. Currently Hurlstone Park has way too much concrete. New developments are seriously lacking in quality, if any, landscaping at all. Provide incentives for local businesses to open up in derelict shops etc.. And provide MORE light rail services. Heavy rail & buses do not meet the community needs. Why has the station not been developed given the amount of money passing to govt coffers from rates etc. Make sure light rail is provided on school transport passes as well. Buy back the local primary school to encourage more families to settle here16:Minimising high density living, particularly without improving infrastructure.

The current and planned redevelopment at Canterbury and along Canterbury Road will bring increased population density with an increased traffic issue.17:Some sympathetic medium density housing Options integrated with transport hubs (station and main roads) is needed but must have spaces for community to harness and build on the village atmosphere - shops, cafes with out door seating etc. important to retain the main federation housing stock and assosiated shop fronts. More could be done allong new canterbury road to create a linear village linking dulwich hill to Hurlstone park18:More Dog Friendly gated Park areas please.19:Remove noise and air pollution from passing diesel freight trains.

Include curfew hours to freight trains.

Current noise pollution from freight trains is greater than aircraft noise. Why is aircraft noise curfew limited but freight trains not?

Freight line should be wholly underground in a tunnel.

Train line should be built over with new parks and green space.20:The area will improve with more parking around train stations and preserving the beautiful open spaces such as enmore park and other similar parks.21:Traffic! Canterbury Road, New and Old Canterbury Roads are becoming more and more congested, especially on weekends. Need consideration into weekend clearways, especially with the thousands of additional residents in the newly constructed apartments around Canterbury station. This is a major frustration for residents and commuters coming through our suburbs.22:Stop the over development of high density residential that will see the area decline into nothing more than a dormitory suburb without soul character or sense of community, increasing traffic congestion and destroying social cohesion23:More unit choices, upgrade Punchbowl park. Cycle paths and another railway bridge crossing. From the boulevard to Punchbowl road. No right turn onto south terrace off Punchbowl rd west bound. No right turn from Punchbowl rd to the boulevarde. And a upgrade to parry park. Walking paths. No right turn onto Victoria rd off Punchbowl rd and open the belmore rd on/ off ramps m5 east/west bound.24:Canterbury pools, ice rink and the connected pool gym could and should be redeveloped into a world class indoor entertainment hub. It should be a place for the community to come together, play sport, train and entertain. The precinct could offer bike hire, rock climbing, electronic games restaurants and cafes.

Page 24: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

The opportunity is endless for what is a great location and a great space.25:Canterbury pools and tasker park should be the focus for investment. a great community asset that has not had any investment for some time.26:My street is awful. Simply needs the footpaths redone and also the street levelled. same goes for other streets close by27:west connex pollution28:No changes other than encouraging more small local businesses to open29:Help/encourage people who work around Marrickville/Sydenham not to drive to work--parking can be very difficult for residents between 9 and 5, especially on streets where parking is unrestricted.30:The fencing and street scape along Punchbowl Station needs to be beautified, especially the pedestrian footpath under Punchbowl Rd bridge near the station. The area looks like a detention area.

Overall the railway line between Sydneham to Bankstown could deal with a renewed facelift.31:Yes, better planning of developments along Canterbury Road between Duntroon Street and Marrickville Road in particular so that the character of the area is retained and the green spaces . Hurlstone Park is a very small suburb with a small shopping strip adjacent to the station and while it could do with some new tenants in some vacant shops it serves the community well. High rise or overly large and ill planned development would destroy the character of this village entirely and remove the reasons that make it a popular family neighbourhood.32:Removing graffiti more often33:What happens to the train services between Yagoona and Birrong with the rapid transit? Do they not get the rapid transit but are required to have development uplift around the stations (as is currently proposed). I'm not against increased densities, I want to know if the trains are still running there to support increased densities.34:We do not want any more tacky appartment blocks with little or no architectural merit .

The Department should also resist the urge to blanket rezone land within the corridor and instread limit any upzoning to defined areas around exisitng transport hubs (trains/buses) and existing town centres.

Heritage significant buildings and conservation areas within the corridor should be considered as part of the planning process and not forgotton.

Canterbury Road should be a priority for the Department not the rail corridor which already has significant development all around.35:Whilst i sympathise with the need for more housing there is a danger in over development for the development sake. These are old areas with historic significance and this should be maintained. I live in H Park and it has a lovely character. There are already over development proposals all along Canterbury road which is in danger of becoming a concrete wind tunnel and ugly to boot. Rail services are already at capacity. Has this really been thought through?36:Get rid of the airport and divert Princes Hwy towards to the industrial estates (across the Alexandra Canal) so it does not impact on residents of St Peters, Sydneham and Tempe. More work needs to be done on improving amenity of Sydenham/St Peters (Its dusty, noisy and very unattractive). More cafes, resturants, bars (not pubs) are needed.37:1)Wiley Park- Council Parking for shops on King George's road. Cheaper rent, incentives to lease/open stores/shops on King George's Road. 2)Tackle the illegal dumping of rubbish in the area, have patrol officers that come out every now and then.3)Bring up the street/kerb appeal on King George's Road in Wiley Park,it looks war torn.38:Use methods other than speed humps to stop cars 'rat-running' through local roads and get drivers to use arterial roads. Also keep the character of the area by retaining the current land zones and densities.39:Need more housing choices including residential flat buildings in the centres between Sydenham and Bankstown which are close to the rail line40:Improve car parking , improve standard of footpaths and roads, proper maintenance and control of street trees , do not allow overdevelopment of apartments without adequate offstreet car parking41:We used to live in hurlstone park but were priced out. There needs to be higher density but not the ugly shoebox developments that seem to pop up. The government should aquire the canterbury hurlstone park rsl and macdonalds and develop that site. Fix dysfunctional retail on corner of canterbury and new canterbury road and generally calm this area of traffic. The canterbury station precinct is similarly dysfunctional. Less cars more shops/people.42:There are 4 live music venues near us, keep the area affordable for interesting business and cultural uses as upcoming will kill those businesses. High density needs good design and parks.43:I think it is really important to keep fitness facilities and community areas accessible by foot, cycle ways and public transport rather than road as with the increased density of housing going in currently and the already overcrowded arterial road networks around the Canterbury area. It is really important that the local swimming pools are kept in their present locations and upgraded there rather than being consolidated into one large facility.44:No high rises without designated carspots45:Please limit the high rise apartments blocks in the middle of streets full of period homes. The character of the area is why so many of us moved here.46:Hi,I am a local resident that will be affected by the urban renewal planned. Below are a few points the planning minister and the government should consider when creating the Sydenham to Bankstown Corridor Strategy.

Investigate and create shopping centre/s in Canterbury Town Centre to accommodate the future massive growth along the Canterbury Road corridor and the riverfront housing.

Create jobs, especially financial and technological jobs in the Sydenham to Bankstown Corridor with potential redevelopment of Canterbury Racecourse into a high-rise business park. Create zones where only business (job) developments can be built. Unemployment inthe area is substantially lower than the Sydney average and thus state government should consider focusing on skilled employment in scientific, technological, medical and financial sectors. Industrial areas are gradually becoming derelict as more and more shift further West. It is self-proven that Marrickville and Canterbury Councils in particular are not suitable to industrial developments so existing industrial zones should be explored into other commercial sectors. The Harp St (South Belmore) Industrial zone should be rezoned to offer medical and scientific research. It will complement the existing Canterbury Hospital.

Promote Campsie and Canterbury to strategic major centres with potentially tens of thousands of jobs created in both of these suburbs. Build on the lack of post-high school educational opportunities. A university and TAFE in the middle of the Bankstown to Sydenham corridor is critical.

Like the North West Growth Corridor, create and build on more transport options. A beneficial example is turn up and go buses feeding residents to Canterbury/Campsie stations from their high-rise homes along the Canterbury Road Corridor. Note that Canterbury Road and Canterbury Railway Station intersect with each other providing a great opportunity into a new transport interchange at Canterbury.

Work with councils to implement higher floor to space ratios and taller building envelopes to encourage and stimulate much-needed development along this SRT corridor. I support 20+ storeys in high-density zoned lands while I encourage 30-40 storey towers in strategic areas such as Bankstown CBD, Campsie and Canterbury Centres.

Walk-up mid-20th century red-brick flats in Marrickville, Canterbury, Campsie, Belmore, Lakemba, Wiley Park, Punchbowl and Bankstown are encouraged to be replaced with higher-density, well-designed residential buildings. Most of them and other old detached/semi-detached housing should be rezoned and replaced.

Upgrade the streetscape of all town centres with better street lighting, furniture and more trees. Community squares in town centres that offer retail opportunities are from an economic perspective a great boost to the local businesses.

Upgrade sporting facilties in Canterbury to cater a wider variety of sports. Clean up and upgrade the Cooks River walks to attract business, residential and recreational activities.

I generally support the plan but it would be greatly appreciated if jobs, indoor shopping centres and high buildings were created as long as transport is improved.47:One of the great things about Dulwich Hill is its cultural diversity and villagey feel. We have great family run local food shops where you can do your weekly shopping. It would be a great shame to see the character of Dulwich Hill lost as big block developments turn it into a bland suburb with boring big chain retailers.

I would love to buy a place in a medium density development that is well planned for passive solar comfort and has a garden for relaxing, entertaining and growing veggies and flowers. Yet none of these sorts of developments happen. It's just big blocks of boring flats going up - totally out of character with the federation cottages that are the most common type of existing home.

We need better strategic planning that include provision of green space, walking and cycling facilities and considering the quality of developments. There are lots of new high density developments popping up without thought to how this is impacting the character of the area. If this continues it will stretch the capacity of current community facilities such as schools, public transport and likely lead to traffic congestion if not well planned. The developers say that more building will reduce house prices but there is no evidence this is actually happening. All the new developments are built cheaply and sold expensively. Where will people of lower incomes afford to live?48:One of the great things about Dulwich Hill is its cultural diversity and villagey feel.

It\'s just big blocks of boring flats going up - totally out of character with the federation cottages that are the most common type of existing home.

Where will people of lower incomes afford to live?49:- Restrict development of businesses that are cumbersome and do not fit in. - Stop high rises and hotel being built specifically as part of the development of Canterbury Leagues Club. - Take the residents welfare and sanity into consideration in having to consistently put up with Canterbury League's Club's continuous development of their site.- Consider the traffic congestion in the streets surrounding the club and public safety when crossing these roads where large trucks and speeding cars are an everyday occurrence. - Stop noise pollution emitted after midnight on the weekends from Canterbury Leagues when they hire out their function centre.- Stop the noise from the trucks delivering their building supplies before 7am. - Stop the noise of the cars, music blaring and patrons screaming from Canterbury Leagues Club most days of the week. - Request Canterbury Leagues Club to put in place measures that actually works to stop the issues outlined above, instead of promising that issues brought up will be rectified and this still has not happened50:Green space master plan is needed for the whole arearejuvenation of Hurlstone Park town centre - including a new community centre to bring people together51:Locating communities facilities in hurlstone park town centre to increase foot traffic and provide incentive for retail and food outlets. It desperately needs a gov facility to kick start it.52:Local markets on a Saturday are important53:I am concerned about the lack of community consultation in the recent construction of three large, and out of place, apartment buildings at Dulwich Hill station. In addition my home is now in the precinct consultation zone which concerns me. Dulwich Hill cannot accommodate further large scale development without compromising the character of our suburb and without significant investment in transport infrastructure to relieve pressure on our congested roads. Our 'peak' train services are approximately every 12 to 18 minutes and are frequently overcrowded. Buses must negotiate congested roads, the lightrail is not a fast option for access to transport connections and a lack of cycling infrastructure removes any incentive to cycle to work.

Although I am not against development, I think it should be done in a way that maintains the heritage and character of the suburb rather than maximising developers' profits.54:- More jobs especially in the professional sector as Canterbury Bankstown remains one of the most unemployed region. - Regional scale shopping centre at Campsie is needed to stimulate the local economy and attract businesses- Better bus routes/services and frequencies along Canterbury Road.

- Focus on 30 storey housing along the railway corridor.- Replace old housing stock (2/3/4 storey flats) in high-density zones residential areas to accommodate 30 storey housing. - A new university and TAFE in Canterbury area as Bankstown Campus of the UWS isn\'t connected with good transport options. Also the Inner West, Canterbury LGA and Southern Sydney will be able to access a top educational facility. - Explore high-rise commercial buildings on Canterbury Road and the under-utilised 33 ha. Canterbury Racecourse to accommodate professional jobs. - Fix up Cooks River- More trains on the Bankstown Line in the short term to reduce overcrowding levels- Promote Belmore to Sydney's Multicultural, Arts and Sports Precinct- I support high-rise residential areas but there is a need to emphasise business opportunities along this urban renewal corridor55:Restrict any high density housing to the immediate vicinity of the railway station. NO re-zoning of existing residential areas. Preserve the existing Federation era housing and existing housing character.Any and all development to be sympathetic to the existing housing character.56:Don't be captured by the vocal locals who want to keep everything the way it is. Preserve genuine heritage but also promote new housing including flats as long as they are well designed. Have enforceable design controls for new developments.57:Lots of trees please, because it will look nicer, could help slow down car drivers, and makes our homes less hot in Summer.

Make sure new buildings are good quality.

Road safety, especially with lots of children living in this area, is important.58:Cycle paths that link Dulwich Hill to Newtown would be appreciated. Please cease and desist in the proliferation of any further multi story residential buildings. What makes Dulwich Hill special is its federation style houses, wide streets, ample parking, generous footpaths and community atmosphere. We have adequate shopping facilities, cafes and dining. If we require more we only have to venture to Marrickville, Ashfield, Broadway or Burwood. Building more highrise will put pressure on our small but adequate shopping centre...eventually forcing out the IGA an in with a big Woolies or Coles with underground Please leave us be.59:cooks river canterbury station next to walkway full of plastic bottles & other rubbish60:More buses running from Belmore to Canterbury, running down Canterbury Road. I moved from Canterbury to Belmore assuming my kids could get to school in Dulwich Hill easily, i was very wrong, i now need to take my children to school or drive them to Canterbury where there are frequent busses. Shocking Belmore! More frequent trains from Belmore.61:Don't over develop Hurlstone Park. It has a nice community feel and doesn't need high density units blocks.62:More green space - our council area is has one of the lowest levels of parks etc around. We need to add to natural areas available not decrease them.63:Need for more open green spaces & provision of active transport64:More affordable housing; promoting multicultural activities/businesses; few more community halls; more smaller gardens along the roads; promoting Lakemba/wiley park area as a vibrant multicultural hub rather than stereotypical view of a 'bogan/muslim/refugee dominated' area.65:Stopping rampant development of high rise apartments.66:All the good plans will be worth nothing unless something is done about freight train noise. We need noise barriers a key points along the freight line - such as end of O'Hara St near Marrickville station. The noise is already a problem and may get much worse as the frequency of freight movements increases.67:Ensure that services into the areas increase at the rate of the current building of new apartments, train, bus, childcare, school services etc don't just put the apartments in and expect the current services to cope as most are currently struggling and a lot of developments have not even started68:There are already too many high rise apartment blocks being approved in the area. It is destroying the local community feel and increasing congestion of traffic and public transport. Many beautiful, heritage home are being destroyed to make way big developments with little architectural aesthetic. These units are approved under the guise of affordable housing then sold off at inflated prices.69:Utilise Punchbow road as a public transport corridor. Perhaps use it to link bankstown, ashfield, strathfield and campsie via belfield.

Utilise the freight lines as commuter lines and integrate as part of the Sydney trains network to connect the bankstown line with the innerwest line. There is potential for a belfield west station an a chullora station.70:Bridge overpass on the corner of the boulevarde and punchbowl road at punchbowl is ridiculously congested at the best of times. Improving the flow of traffic at this vital road junction is needed. It may make punchbowl slightly appealing to visitors outside of the suburb71:Good lighting72:Buses going to more destinations from Punchbowl would be great and more frequent buses in the 487 route and mainly running later would be great. Direct buses to the city would be beneficial too. A faster train line to the city, express with fewer stops would be great.73:More netball facilities.74:Traffic calming on my road needed ( Warren Ed). Currently street lighting is inadequate on my road and it is a hazard to walk home in the dark from Marrickville station. Love the parks and the small street parks in the area.75:Traffic congestion is my main concern in this area76:Put up more kids' playgrounds and family friendly places.77:Traffic lights for the Close Street / Charles Street intersection will be a necessity as more people move into the area.78:Stop over-development of our local area and build new and improve existing children's parks. There are way too many housing developments being approved and being built. Our parks are old and simple - not stimulating for children like so many other council's are.79:You are already letting 7 storey apartments be built on New Canterbury Road and presumably eventually along the train line as well as along the light rail route. It would be nice to keep some low density houses in the area. We aren't on big blocks like the north shore as it is. If you do, please try and make the design standards high and give some thought to the streets around them.80:Improving PT options so that getting 7km on a bus doesn't take an hour. There are far too many cars on the road.81:The govt should allow investors to build high rises in this area. The high rise accommodation buildings will help general public to get relatively affordable units. Currently, most of them are town houses and double or triple storeys in this particular area and the demand is high which makes them expensive.82:Creat better junction and more parking on station. Therefore, residential would be able to use public transportation rather the driving.83:The pathway to Sydenham station is horrendous from the intersection of Victoria road to the station. Would like it upgraded with a level pathway. Any bus services along that road (Sydenham road) to the station might be helpful.84:It would be great to see more options for people in there 20s to enjoy activists. I always have to go to Newtown to go out but if there were more small bars and quality pubs in my area I would stay closer to home. Also more cafes and resturants.

Page 27: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

We are also lacking a quality shopping centre. Hurstville my my closest Westfield and it's not very good. Bankstown is also a bit lacking. There is nothing in the belmore area. I don't have a car and think bus services to the station can be improved as well as lighting on my walk home.85:Councils need to be sympathetic to the heritage aspects of suburbs and do more to preserve and protect houses and buildings. Canterbury Council had the most inter war bungalow houses when a study by the National Trust was conducted. They notified Council in the hope they might try and attempt to do something about preserving such homes. Nothing was done. There needs to be more consultation on any new developments that risk turning suburbs into overdeveloped uncharacteristic shoeboxes that offer no quality of life to residents. Developments that are eyesores need to be stopped at the planning stage. It is concerning to see buildings along the Cooks River going up quickly one such development is so close to power lines you have to question how it was allowed to be built.86:new housing developments must have adequate on site parking for residents and guests87:Local markets would be a great idea, as well as an annual festival.88:Park with barbecue area, tennis court89:Quick removal of graffiti, monitoring and removal of illegal dumping. Improve sense of community. Redevelopment of run down shopping strips90:Specifically with congestion, punchbowl road next to the station (near El Jannah) has an incredibly horrible peak hour issue due to the lane structure. (parking on a busy road allowed + forced lane changes)91:I travel to city every weekdays to my work. The train from Canterbury stops on every stops and also this line trains are very slow in compared to other lines. I think if we have occasional limited stop trains services and if we fasten the train timetable there will be thousands of residents benefit it from it. And the service will be a lot better.92:The abandoned shops which line Canterbury Road need to be repossessed by the government and developed into either housing, shopping centres or businesses.

The abandoned shops/factories and unoccupied buildings make canterbury road so unsightly and unsafe to walk along as there is no foot traffic of pedestrians.

I would also strongly encourage that you keep releasing land and zoning land as residential- the bigger our population gets the better this community will be and the more pressure there will be to give better resources to our area.93:Improvement in the dog parks in the area and providing light in the dog parks because people get home from work late and there is no light because the sun sets earlier in winter.94:As the population has grown in the local area (apartments and so forth) I believe garbage on the street and local parks has become a bit of a problem and I feel that the local council can help support an education initiative and implement more street sweepers to combat this ongoing issue.95:I think the congestion on punchbowl road almost every day from morning until late afternoon really needs to be looked at. Perhaps a bridge overpass from Dudley street nth mightbbe worth considering.96:Please ensure that quality high-rise housing is built, that it is attractive & fits into the streetscape & neighbourhood. Please ensure historical features are retained & that floor/space ratio is not degraded, nor developments going higher than the Local Environment Plan, which was agreed between Marrickville Council & the community. Please do not demolish the character of the inner west by making it modern glass & concrete.

It would be great if highrise apartments were built 2-3 metres back from the footpath. This gives room for landscaping & trees & prevents a tunnel effect.97:Clean it up! Or implement tougher rules. It just looks so drab, run down and unclean all over belmore, Campsie (in particular!), lakemba, etc. sorry, but it looks like we live in a third world country.98:Canterbury Road is already a nightmare. What is the plan with all of the new units going up from Roselands to canterbury? How can we clean up (educate) units in punchbowl, wiley park, lakemba & campsie.Save canterbury / roselands poolThanks for listening99:More Lighting in several area.100:The Canterbury/Campsie border is in dire need of revitalisation. There is incredibly poor upkeep of parks and other green spaces. The path along the river could be the areas greatest asset, and instead it is a filthy, littered, neglected mess. Children's playgrounds are in a terrible state, with broken and unsafe equipment. The river is dirty and an eyesore. Lighting is extremely poor in Canterbury. This contributes to the feeling of the area being unsafe and undesirable. There are also very very few nice cafes in nice areas that people want to meet at, spend time in and enjoy the surroundings. It would not be hard for the council to improve this LGA to make it greener, safer and a better place to live (improving our house prices also).101:There is not enough open space, the trees are scrappy, there needs to be more facilities in Sydenham, it is impossible to ride safely along unwind bridge road, princes highway to cit, marrickville or newtown.102:Some of the developments that have been allowed have let the area down. Plain to see developers are greedy for the money as after a few years some developments start to look very shabby indeed.

We have an opportunity to make Beamish Street a better shopping experience - we are close to the inner west and should really take advantage of that and try and make the retail and shop front area of Beamish street look better and attract better business.

We have a chance to make Campsie a better suburb, but it's frightening to see that chance slip away and for it to just be a slum suburb.103:Better lighting and shouldn't take years to get street fixed after Ausgrid work. Also fix speed bump in claremont st outside anytime fitness that water pools at in rain because it can't drain at the bottom of the hill.104:More parking for shopping precinct and near train stations105:Electricity and internet infrastructure with a focus on site electricity creation through solar, wind and geothermal and setting self generating minimums for new developments such as unit blocks or community centres.106:Maintain the Hurlstone Park suburb village feel and low rise housing character.Consult properly with local residents in the area about the significant development and planning proposals107:

.108:Would be good if we can have a Westfield or better shopping mall experience. Currently, Campsie shopping centre cannot be compared Burwood and Hustville.109:Would be good if Campsie can have a mini Events/Hoyt's like Beverly Hills has a mini Events cinema. Council can arrange for that to happen.

Page 28: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

Strathfield is planning on building a world class entertainment facilities. Why can't the residence of bankstown line have that without having to travel all the way to bankstown or other areas. We need to invest more to building a community for the locals living close to Campsie, since so many people from neighboring suburbs come here to shop and eat. Invest more on infrastructures, town landscaping and most importantly improve the safety standard of the local community. At the moment the street is pretty scary at night. The lighting is dark, crazy cat ladies walking around on the street it feels unsafe to get home.110:Hurlstone Park is a very small suburb with a unique low rise, quiet character. It is important to preserve it and revitalise the main CBD strip but in keeping with the character of the area.High rise apartments like those that are currently being built at Canterbury station would not be in keeping with this!111:Make campsie look better alot of shops look old and cheap looking...shops need to be refurbished more often, less hand written signs in shops...and less junky looking stores..ie newsagencies selling cheap chinese products in the entrance rather than being a newsagencies.112:Cleaner streets and improved sense of safety113:LIFTS FOR PUNCHBOWL STATION WUITE HARD TO ACCESS BY THE ELDERLY DISABLED AND MOTHERS WITH PRAMS STRUGGLING TO GO UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS.

WE DESERVE LIFTS IN THE STATION.

FOOTPATHS ALL OVER PUNCHBOWL ARE VERY SLIPPERY AND I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF INCIDENTS WHERE I HAVE SLIPPED PERSONALLY ON THE PAVERS USED ALL OVER THE MAIN STRIPS OF SHOPS IN PUNCHBOWL ALONG PUNCHBOWL ROAD AND THE BOULEVARDE ITS A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.114:Speed bumps in the streets adjacent to canterbury road eg. cross st Campsie. This is a feeder street to canterbury south public school but from 4am has trucks speeding down it to get to the M5 motorway. There is a close call regarding an accident between a child and truck everyday and the quality of the road is quickly deteriorating because of the continued weight of the constant heavy truck traffic.115:Everyday I see people run through red lights at the intersection on boulevard. Yesterday a man run through it and nearly hit a pedestrian but drove on the opposite side almost having a head on collision. WE need a red light CAMERA at that intersection116:Install lifts at the stations because a lot of mothers with their prams are always using the train and they don\'t need to rely on others to help them carry their prams it goes for elderly people as well.117:Stop building cheap, poor quality/ design apartments near stations. They destroy local character. Consider impacts of developements as a whole rather than site by site basis (parking, local traffic etc). Need public domain, open space improvements to support higher density.118:Punchbowel station needs a loft for elderly and less mobile people and women and men with prams.. far too often i see people struggling up the stairs.. put a lift in.119:Additional development compliance audits for main streets to improve streetscapes. Removal any existing non-compliances such as unauthorized signage, air conditioners, paint schemes. Ensure waste dumping is reduced to instill a sense of pride in area.120:Bankstown is a area that has fallen behind significantly over these past two decades, poor town planning, and improper town planning, consultation has caused bankstown to become what it is now.. you have units (more than one block) that hasn't passed safety requirements.. so 1: you need to implement a proper, consistent quality monitoring system to building and town planning.. the new library was a step in the right direction.Compass centre.. that needs to go, it's an eye sore to bankstown.. it's directly across from the station and it's one of the first things you see as soon as you get off the station... maybe more restaurants would benefit bankstown, almost with what parramatta has done with church st perhaps?.. it might sound over ambitious but it would definitely make bankstown look more inviting..at this current time it seems like the bankstown sports club has better planning than the council itself. things need to change, bankstown has become a real depressing place to live in..121:More jogging parks and exercise facilities . More lighting on the roads . Express train service from Campsie to city . Traffic lights to reduce accidents . Thanks122:Better north-south transport options. All the rail, and most of the main roads are roughly east-west123:Renew Wiley Park station and the surrounding steet shops.124:revitalisation of the area around Canterbury station would be great, particularly given the amount of new flats being built. I have seen an old council plan for that area ( i think from 2005/6) which would be a good place to start, it envisaged better pedestrian access, shops, cafes etc along canterbury road and surrounds. Some green space would also be fantastic.125:More parks. In between Punchbowl station and Wiley Park station there are no parks for children.126:Proper consideration to development applications which are not in keeping with the heritage and look and feel of the area. Developers and Councils are ruining this beautiful area with large oversized unaffordable and ill-planned developments which will over populate an already crowded area where roads cannot cope127:Better lighting in parks. Encourage cafes and restaurants. Keep the dogs parks- great sense of community!128:More police, and more enforcement of community wide parking and traffic issues.129:The state of the playground in this area is appalling. With all the families in the area in apartments this should be councils top priority130:Belmore needs grocery stores As soon as possible. Like Woolworths, Or Coles131:Campsie is a fantastic area. I think for me I'd like some more public transport options, as I am about a 15-20 minute walk to Campsie train station. Some more buses down Second Ave and heading towards the city or into Campsie town centre itself would give me some more options for travel. Parking, especially in residential areas, is also going to become a bigger issue as more and more apartments are being built.132:Trains and bus services are such an imperative aspect for our areas for individuals who do not have their own transportation.133:Pedestrian safety on illawarra rd. Turn illawarra rd between Marrickville rd and Byrnes st into a mall.134:I hope more funds can be allocated to1. Installing Lighting and cctv around marrickville station as I have been assaulted and got robbed before2. Smoothing edges of kerbs as e.g. Francis st marrickville. The jagged edge of the kerb cut into my car tyre and deflated the wheel3. Prompt Monitoring and request for Fixing pot holes in all roads4. Simplifying to traditional toilets in marrickville car park as my grandma hesitates to use high technology toilets5. Bbq installed at Marrickvile park6. Get rid of recreational space next to marrickville Commonwealth bank area and convert to 15 minutes car park spots135:I hope more funds can be allocated to1. Installing Lighting and cctv around marrickville station as I have been assaulted and got robbed before2. Smoothing edges of kerbs as e.g. Francis st marrickville. The jagged edge of the kerb cut into my car tyre and deflated the wheel

3. Prompt Monitoring and request for Fixing pot holes in all roads4. Simplifying to traditional toilets in marrickville car park as my grandma hesitates to use high technology toilets5. Bbq installed at Marrickvile park6. Get rid of recreational space next to marrickville Commonwealth bank area and convert to 15 minutes car park spots136:Improve the train stationTraffic on king georges road next to wiley park train station is a nightmare both ways. Cars should not be allowed to park in left lanes at ANY time137:Campsie only has a mediocre shopping centre. No events cinema, no average retailers which you can find in a good shopping centre (I.e. Myer, Cue, Forever new, Saba). Campsie needs to rebrand itself by working with companies like Westfield to upgrade what we already have.

Most importantly Campsie needs to improve its safety and security. Otherwise no good cafes or retailers would want to invest here. Campsie will before ever seen as a cheap version of Hurstville and the suburbs that's right next door to Lakemba.138:I would like to see a cleaner environment. I don\'t think the community here are concerned about the pollution. I think it would be a lot nicer if there was something done about the rubbish.139:Better traffic lights eg when will arrows be included at the Unwins bridge rd & railway pd/gleeson st. The number of accidents, near misses & traffic congestion is dangerous for all.140:I think it is important that Punchbowl station is provided with easy access for the disabled and parents with prams. I think it's quite ironic that there are 5 disabled parking spots yet no easy access for those in a wheel chair or unable to climb the steep flight of stairs to go up into and then down onto the platform.141:The main things in my area that are very important to me is affordable housing . At. The moment rent is just sooo expensive that 75% of my money goes to rent. I have a 19 year old who is having trouble getting a job cause all the apprenticeships he has gone for say he has to have a car more opportunities for youth. Also I see lots of people building new houses and they are like concrete jungles with no grass or trees. Bankstown looks harsh and depressing142:Campsie needs an upgrade. Some shops on beamish street still looks old, retailers and restaurants lacking variety. We need a better shopping centre, not one that sells all the cheap stuff. We don't want to be seen as a cheap and unsafe suburbs. Security needs to be improved. Bring in more high rise apartments, more residents which will bring in more sources of economic injection. If the above can be achieved, I think the retail shops and cafe and nice things will bring themselves to Campsie.143:I hope more funds can be allocated to1. Get rid of recreational space next to marrickville Commonwealth bank area and convert to 15 minutes car park spots144:Need big shopping center at Lakemba. Like small Westfield or Coles and Kmart.145:NO MORE BLOCKS OF UNITS146:Make the Canterbury area less of an eyesore with less warehouses, mechanics and showrooms. Provide more retail space with areas for art and recreation.147:Clean it up, especially around Campsie. More trains, especially express trains to the city at different times. Better security and lighting around Belmore station. I commute from home quite late at night and have to walk in the dark to my car which is quite dangerous, particularly for a young woman148:Do whatever it takes to improve the shopping strip on Crinan Street down from the station. It is lifeless and the empty and decrepit shops diminish the amenity of the suburb.

Knock them down and build apartments. 3 or 4 story like the ones near the bowling club. Or something.149:Hurlstone Park is quite quiet at the moment. It'd be nice for it to be a bit more lively as a CBD where people come to shop around. It's probably the most less known suburb along the bankstown line. Not saying the quietness is bad (by which it is actually good) but a bit more choices to make Hurlstone Park more popular would be good.150:The quality and design of new unit developments needs to be vastly improved. There seems to be a very poor quality of new buildings in Marrickville when compared to what is being built in the eastern suburbs and north shore. This impacts the streetscape and also residents of the new properties. One example on Illawarra Road near the cooks river has no setback from the road and no street trees, and this building is facing due west... a very poor design outcome.

If we need to embrace higher density buildings, quality should be a priority with architects and town olanners driving development, rather than the developers and their profit margins.

Apart from this, Marrickville is a fabulous place to live and retaining its character should be a priority. Including its vibrant indutrial areas supporting the arts. We dont needor want to be the same as all other inner ring suburbs which gentrification sometimes tries to achive.151:Wiley Park is a small suburb and therefore forgotten in the scheme of things. Prices here remain low despite its central location. We want to see the suburb developed to boast its appeal and compete with more successful neighboring suburbs.152:Have CCTV to catch and fine people that dump. Every 2nd Street is used as a rubbish tip.153:There is a massive amount of development of medium highrises in canterbury at the moment. I think the planning of big developments needs to stick to the main road (canterbury rd) and not infringe on the surrounding suburban streets. Traffic congestion is a problem early in the morning so traffic flow needs to be prioritised without pushing all the traffic through the residential quieter streets. Thanks for reading!154:Easier and faster access to T1 northern lineIt is really troublesome to head to ashfield/strathfield Via public transport. Its faster by car155:No Westconnex! And if it must happen, please filter all exhaust stacks and care for our environment.156:Renovation of train station with lift and improved looks of the station.Children parks and open space for everyone.157:A spot to play some basketball would be great.158:I live between campsie and Belmore Station and I believe that one of the worst problems is that there is always rubbish along the side walks and streets. Maybe having more bins along the streets could help. There are too many abandoned stores with broken glass all around them on that section of Canterbury Road.159:keep canterbury pool160:Better public transport and bike options. As a mother of two children who values her life, I'd LOVE to ride my bike more often and take my kids with me but

Page 30: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

it's simply unsafe to do so if I want to live.161:Complete the Greenway. Build more cycling infrastructure. how about an off road cycle way all along the rail corridor.I don't mind new apartments but not if they are - and mostly they are - ugly and poorly designed. Build some public housing and affordable housing. I love my area but hate the idea that as it gets more and more expensive to rent or buy that only wealthy people will live in the area.162:better choice of shops and restaurants163:Less apartment buildings with no thought about impact on street parking and traffic congestion. More public transport and more parks with public amenities such as bins, water drinking fountains etc.164:Don't add more houseing, the roads can't cope with the added traffic, there is already no parking and community services and transport services already at maximum capacity and you will never create more infrastructure you never do and areas just become bland and dangerous.165:I love the Marrickville growers markets and would love to see more things like this in the community. In Earlwood pub needs a major overhaul. If they could make it more like The Henson there would be a huge increase in patronage166:Cleaning up dumped rubbishProviding more parking near train stations, especially Canterbury station.167:Get all the shop fronts back to being shops! Hurlstone park can't grow as a community because all the village shops are resided in and look completely derelict!168:Outdoor eating for families with no smoke.169:Clean up the streets around the train station. Also, there is a larger crowd of men who frequent and stay around the train station, this can be a little intimidating to single women.170:In Bankstown many of people use noisy car and motorcycle which are their favourite. Could u plz ban using these vehicles because most of the people who have baby scar of this noises.Thanks171:more cycle paths and interesting nightlife172:Dedicated bike ways. I would love to be able to regularly and safely ride to city, we need a bike corridor seperate to cars.173:Lakemba is a wonderful suburb but lacks exciting green spaces and playgrounds for children and teens. Litter is a constant problem and I would like to see rangers give on the spot fines for people seen tossing rubbish on the street.I also welcome development but NOT the creation of ghettos, I believe that money should be put into local schools, community groups, greenspace and infrastructure to help build a coheasive community where people have the opportunity of engaging with their neighbours and creating a dynamic community.174:Traffic on punchbowl rd next to punchbowl station is a nightmare. During peak hoursit takes over 15 minutes to pass 1 set of lights. It is not only limited to peak hours either! Please do something about it. The congestion is unbelievable175:Maintaining the character of the neighbourhood by strict planning controls.176:diversity of restaurants and cafes not just all chicken/fish and chips shops177:Meaningful opportunities to participate in transparent consultations Innovative activation of vacant space for community economic developmen178:More green space. We have the lowest in Sydney.179:More street rubbish bins, better roads180:Focus on mass transit to reduce car usage.181:Do not allow higher than 4-5 floor buildings in the development areas.182:Wiley Park train station need to revitalise - no security, no lift, poor facilitiesNeed more security, install cctv and need a police stationNo shops around like Woolworth, cole, aldi in wiley area. I have to go nighbour suburb for shopping. Please build woolworth, coles, aldi so we can do some shopping, e.g stockland is best option. Need library in wiley park and children's playground. Here we have nothing whereas neighbour suburb has everything, aldi, woolwoth, coles, target.Streets and pedestrian walking path are so poor, need more maintainnece183:Value natural assets like Cooks River and remnant bushland. Don't allow the character of use area to be destroyed by knocking down existing housing stock and community infrastructure eg bowling clubs could be repurposed. Encourage active transport via walking, cycling options taking advantage of open space and reducing dependence on private motor vehicles.184:Certainly preserving the character of the suburb, there are many historic homes and putting units on some of these streets would ruin the appeal. I am a supporter of using the main roads around the suburb for high density housing as a lot of the empty shops on busy roads are an eyesore.185:I walk home from Sydenham station and find it quite unnerving at night.Perhaps more street lighting could increase the safety in streets, but also more greenery and trees, as it is still such a warehouse district.

Any further development of recreation and sporting facilities would be excellent. And the planting of native flora should be a priority.

Perhaps this isn't the right forum, but people dumping bread on the side of the street will lead to increased vermin population. Would be great if more could be done to police, or educate, on this issue. Not sure if it helps, but the corner of Despointes and Marrickville rd has this happen on a regular basis.

It is really important to me as a resident that the area doesn't become overly populated, with any high rise being built. This is what makes Marrickville/Sydenham so nice to live. The business districts are already at capacity, with street congestion and full public transport. Increasing the population will have negative impacts on the area.

But overall enjoy greatly enjoying the community.186:Limiting through movement and stationery presence of diesel trains in residential neighbourhoodsMore safe cycle paths and better connections between cycle optionsRight turn arrows at major local intersections eg unwind bridge rd and railway rdBetter sports facilities and playground equipment at our public schoolsNo westconnex187:We need much better coffee and cafes. The cosest cafe that is good is Vanilla Bean And Lime in Padstow or more towards the inner west. Eg. Dulwhich Hill.188:Please, please don't kill this area with high density housing. Please.189:Area where remote control aircraft could be flown190:Sudenham has a lot of empty shopfronts. There are not enough people in our community to make businesses here viable. We need development of

industrial areas into urban living to bring more people into the area. Sydenham is on three train lines and a train to the city is regular. Only 7 minutes to Central on the express. It's the perfect place for a major development.191:Clean out old shops and safer walking and fitness to dtatuon192:We need more community space so that people who buy units in the new developments have somewhere to meet each other and share experiences. We must not sell off the Canterbury Bowling Club land which was gifted to the community by the Hutton family to be an ongoing community resource.193:Release more land and build more properties. So many of my friends want to move into the Dulwich Hill/Summer Hill/Canterbury areas and there just aren't enough properties available. You need to release more land and rezone so properties can be built ASAP.194:More people need to live here. We need to make sure architectural standards are maintained to prevent it becoming a ghetto.195:Cleanliness is major problem in my area.196:We need a lift at Punchbowl station. Everytime I travel by train, I have to wait for some one come and help me lift up my baby n pram. And sometimes some people not willing to help197:Speed humps in Telopea street it is worse then eastern creek we have kids and it is unsafe please help u have contacted council many time there has been no changes198:There are so many developments in our area. Hundreds of units are being built on Canterbury Road and surrounding areas. This means that we we ill have hundreds more cars on the locals streets and roads. This is a huge problem as there is already so much traffic on the roads. People are not using public transport due to it's unreliability. I find it's taking too long to get to work. Even on the weekends the traffic levels are terrible. My next concern is that these developments are too high. Innocent people are finding that the value of their homes are being reduce because a tall building is being built in close proximity to their homes. People are becoming depressed to now find themselves looking up at a tall building when in their backyards. I think with the level and rate of development we can still increase supply but keep these building heights down to two levels near residential areas. At the moment council is thinking of developers over home owners.199:More trees200:Cleanliness, the suburb is disgusting as everyone throws rubbish out their windows and onto the roads. Born and bred in Punchbowl for 34 years and unfortunately the area is getting worse, not better.... Hence I'm putting my place on the market and getting out quick smart. Unfortunate cause it's central to soo much201:I live in a community where there is increasing Muslim population. I do NOT discriminate. Everyone should have choices. I feel however, that I am judge because I do not wear a hijab / burqa. Its very uncomfortable and in instances threating.202:More basketball203:Improved traffic / pedestrian lights at Belmore station (too many people run the red lights) and overall look of Burwood Road - it has become a cultural hub but no improvement on landscaping - there are no plants or trees on main strip. Improved parking to access shops - very limited parking during business hours having to do 3-4 "laps" to get spot!204:Road usage is already very high. High growth is worrying as traffic will be horrendous. We need more public transport options that help people to get not only to city but also get across city.205:Better street lighting. Better scrutiny of designs to prevent ugly unit blocks being built with only profit in mind. Designated bike paths.206:Marrickville has the worst footpaths in Sydney. Try going for a walk with a pram or scooter.207:We need lift of escalator for prams n disabled people208:My comment is regarding Bankstown-Wiley Park-Lakemba area.

For Bankstown - its really crowded, parking is acute in many places. The Bankstown central should be redeveloped/rebuilt instead of a flat architecture it should have a multi level market with wide range of parking (like westfields).

For Wiley Park and Lakemba - the concrete roads are really a pain to drive on and for the passengers and for the car itself. All roads should be built with Bitumen. There are few right turns where give way turning should be allowed. Road and area aesthetics really need to be improved. Roads are usually not clean and has a shabby looking which is hurting the overall image of the area. Residents should be fined heavily for illegal dumping and rubbish disposal. Park and facilities need to be more cleaned and regularly maintained. There is a huge number of recent migrants in this area, so info sessions should be help about renting, keeping the area clean and on other matters. I have more to say, but hard to write everything here.209:It is of great importance that the character of housing in the area is preserved and that no new developments in the form of apartment buildings are allowed. The village character of Dulwich Hill must be maintained and the greed of developers be curtailed.210:Extend the Light Rail to Bankstown!211:Better children's play facilities at wicks Park. More parking at Sydenham station212:Introduce a cash for containers scheme so the Cooks River no longer looks like a rubbish dump. Persuade Canterbury Council to actually pick up rubbish rather than leaving that job entirely to civic-minded ratepayers.213:Parking around Dulwich Hill station is becoming very congested as is the Dulwich Hill shopping centre and carparks behind IGA in Seaview st. Any unit development should always have ample car spaces . eg 1 car space per bedroom . Some 2 bedroom units may have 4 people and 4 cars!! Where do they park ? We must preserve the original streetscape when considering new unit blocks. What a design mess on Wardell Rd at Dulwich Hill station where 1 house is stuck in the middle of the new high rise and the units appear to be developed by 2 separate companies. So we now have 3 odd blocks.214:Childrens playgrounds. I have to go to wiley park to get to a childrens playground. Very rare to find a park in punchbowl. No library and larger parking area for access to shops on the boulevard.215:I would like to see a strategic view based on global best practice and one that is evidence based.

Any urban development should have transport planning as top priority216:Separated bike paths that would make it practical and more importantly safe to ride my bike around my local area rather than using my car.217:Commuter parking (especially around Campsie train station)Upgrade of Campsie Mall and Woolworths (especially parking and traffic management on Claremont Street)Wider pedestrian walkway on Beamish streetEncourage cafes restaurants to open late hours to help create night life atmosphereCanterbury Road has been dug up for at least a year and has not been refurbished.A dog park?218:

219:220:The rentral market in Marrickville South has exploded. In the last three years my rent has gone from $320 a week to $420. The reason given at each rise is "market value". My aparment, like many in Marrickville South is run down & worn out and not wortg what we pay. But we desperatly want to stay because this is now our home. I am a social worker who works in glebe and my partner is am electrician who is based in Riverwood. The way rent is going, we are being driven out of our home and away from sydney. It isnt hard to imagine Marrickville losing its appeal, its quiet sleepy cafes and people who work blue collar jobs. It isnt hard to imagine because, with housing driven up so much, people are leaving in droves. New apartments with 1 bedroom are selling for $580000! Is that afordable?! How can you maintain diversity and multicilturalism (something this suburb is famous for) when those peoplw can not afford to live here? It's scary. And a joke. There is not enough housing for low to middle incomes left here.221:Light or heavy rail offering express service from Bankstown to Parramatta. Limiting high density in villages like Revesby, Panania, Padstow. Dealing with litter and illegal dumping in Georges River National Park. Introducing more bus priority lanes.222:Appropriate development - ie not the boarding house debacle on Grove St, Dulwich Hill223:Stop people/shops selling produce on public foot path or use public foot path as a packaging/working area.224:Maintain the limits on high rise. That apartment block recently built next to Marrickville Station is horrible. It looks like a prison.Improve traffic conditions on key roads, particularly Victoria Rd.Actively encourage more small businesses, particularly in the creative sector.225:I'm very concerned that the planned development along Canterbury Rd will destroy any character that the area has. There are a multitude of existing buildings that should not be torn down but that rather they should be preserved and reused. Belmore has a rich history and there is nothing more important than living in an area that you feel a connection with. Be it through a shared history, or through an appreciation for the unique character of your home area.

There is a distinct lack of park land, or cycle ways, or walk ways along that stretch. Adding housing will not foster a community. Let's build on our existing character, foster a sense of community and pride, and reuse existing structures to create more homes.226:To build the community as an entity there should be more festivals, local competitions, sports galas, walks and a community portal where you post jobs, sale goods, services and inform community about what is our target for this quarter. So through portal people are connected and it create awareness for streamlining communal sense. This strategic move will slowly build our community.

Cheers227:Lift at train Station it's really difficult to carry pram on the stairs.Thanks228:Cleaning up some of the sad looking parts of Canterbury Road and maybe clean up days to stop the people who put there old furniture and rubbish out at all times so the streets look run down229:Improving quality of roads and footpathsImproving access and transport options for all members and age groups in communityCommunity spaces, markets, events are important tooBetter, faster train servicesContinuing to facilitate dialogue between different age groups and ethnicities within the community by putting on events230:Marrickville has the least amount of green spaces, so greener streets, less concrete, more trees and improving existing green spaces should be a priority especially with new developments. Most residents have only small outdoor areas, so community green spaces are essential.

Preserving the local character of existing buildings and streetscapes and ensuring new developments enhance the current streetscapes should also be a priority.

Enhancing and adding to the current sense of community is also essential, with community facilites such as libraries, childrens parks, skate parks and markets are also essential as this is one of the reasons many people enjoy living in Marrickville.231:Improve night time economy closer to stations. Eg shops & restaurants so commuters can eat and shop before heading home.Increase available Secure covered parking232:Finding the balance between adequate housing and quality of life is the challenge. More housing must not equal more cars on local roads and arterials, but look at providing reliable transport which people will and do use. Community gardens and community events will help build a better quality of life. In our limited natural environments we have an obligation to preserve and enhance with tree plantings involving community.233:Beautify Sydenham rd with more trees. More parking in Marrickville.234:I am in Bankstown, however on the East Hills/airport train line, few trains to city stop at panania and east hills and parking is limited. We have great natural areas and parks in the area along the georges river but they aren't linked. There are no footpaths, walking tracks or bike paths along the river or along Henry Lawson Drive.235:Having council enforce DA's in commercial areas to stop people living in them236:Markets, swimming pools for families, cafés237:More selection of cafes and outdoor dining! Community facilities, places for community to connect so we don't feel like we a are living in apartment hell isolated. Priority should be the wonderful cooks river as so many local utilise this - picnics, keep it clean, respect from council - the community cares for this area! Canterbury bowling club could be revitalised as cafe/open space/ community. Massive concern over traffic and safety on canterbury rd, with all new apartments how will it support the inevitable traffic jams!238:The punchbowl train station access ability239:Increase cctv surveillance in pig car parks 24/7 increase local cafes inner bankstown around the sports club restrict high buildings to reduce congestion240:More vibrant night time dining and entertainment scene, better lighting and security in public spaces and parking areas, adequate shelter from rain in and around the train station241:Yes please don't allow anymore high rises or overdevelopment keep us the way we are242:Do not allow the over development of the high rise unit and definitely dont allow the mosque to go ahead in Padstow243:Rebuild the shopping centre that burned down many many years ago.

Roads are cracked and too many people not abiding by the law, making it a very unsafe and frustrating place to live.

More frequent trains and availability of commuter car parks.244:More healthier restaurant and cafe options for food. More lively night scene/entertainment. Better safety and security. Clean up the areas with alot of bird

Page 33: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

droppings. Making sure that shop owners keep the pathways clean. Better sensored traffic lights in congested areas (sometimes waiting for 2 minutes when there is no oncoming traffic). Proper paths for walking - there are some areas that only provide a pathway on one side of the road or none at all.245:Canterbury road resurfacing must be completed. Makes the suburb look derro.Local streets need resurfacing instead of potholes constantly filled. Illegal rubbish dumping needs to be addressed and graffiti removed.u Council verges should be better maintained. Often overgrown and with weeds.246:Clean up the streets of rubbish.247:NO FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS, GOOD DINING PLACES , SLOW DOWN TRAFIC , AND NIGHT LIFE, AND SAFTY,248:To improve this area you need to stop people dumping rubbish on the sidewalk. You need parking offices maning the streets, these people stop their cars wherever they feel, (at traffic lights, no standing zones, even on the footpath) and there is no one doing anything about it. I dont think there is anything you can really do to make punchbowl a better place. Quite frankly., I don\\\\'t like walking in the streets, nor do Iike my kids walking them either. It really makes me uncomfortable.249:An ELEVATOR AT PUNCHBOWL STATION!!!Also to make people obey parking signs on punchbowl Rd.250:Top priorities:Encourage new small business into Hurlstone Park strip (Crinan)Improve river health - so much rubbish along the banks251:The bus services could be improved for people like me who live over 20 minutes walk from the station. Also there is a lot of ugly industrial buildings on Chapel and Leslie Streets Belmore/Roselands which could give space to more housing. I think it's too close to the City for the industrial buildings.252:I lived in Bankstown for about 5 years and my biggest concern is about the pedestrian crossing. Most people don't know what it is and I nearly get hit at least twice a week in my way to and from college/work. This usually occurs in the Bankstown Central car parks and sometimes outside the station at night, people either drive the wrong way or don't stop for pedestrians. I highly recommend a big sign that emphasises pedestrian crossing if there isn't one. It's got to the point that when I walk in other suburbs I get a pleasant surprise when people actually do stop for me because people in bankstown sure don't.253:Bankstown old town plaza still very eerie at night behind station, high density development there with more restaurants/cafes and street art with greenery can soften the feel but contribute to a more cosmopolitan vibe254:I used to live in Sydenham infact I was born there under the flight path my whole family was born there it was the best suburb till the government forced people to sell there place .BRing the houses back and I\\\'ll be the first to buy and move back.255:Have integrate transport options rather than one over the other256:Better infrastructure that promotes a sense of pride and enjoyment257:Council/governments need to be careful with what they approve. A development built a number of years ago, cnr of cross st and sth terrace, is the most unattractive block of units. They make the area look like a slump. It is imperative that everything council does is to improve the attractiveness and standards of people living here. Residents need to feel proud of their suburb, of what is built, living conditions and the job of local council.258:There's quite abit of pollution and traffic congestion on Bemish street259:We need to keep the Canterbury Bowling Club so that we can provide community facilities for the people who will be moving into the apartment blocks being constructed around Canterbury Railway Station.260:Better designed housing and renovations and NO HIGHRISE apartments.261:No apartment blocks, no townhouses etc! Basically leave it alone. Plant more trees, build the cycleway from Dulwich Hill to Rozelle Bay. Increase heavy rail and light rail services. Fund community centres, libraries, childcare, schools, hospitals262:Cleaner kids parks and playground swings in local park at a risk as there's always broken glass around263:Affordable housing, including more community and public housing availability. Strengthening communities and connection between people locally. Making childcare more affordable. Supporting local businesses and keeping our homes and communities diverse, ungentrified, affordable, pleasant, green and authentic.264:More Community awareness of the different services available in the area.265:More basketball courts266:Increase in shops, and a better local community centre, in the area around Wiley Park, which has been disregarded for years, leaving neighbouring areas, to grow and develop more efficiently267:Make it more LGBT inclusive.268:Wangee Road need immediate repairs from where it intersects at Punchbowl Rd to Skyline Street.269:Bigger shopping centre270:Something needs to be done about the amount of rubbish left behind by people at our local park (wiley park) maybe people to patrol the area and issue fines for people who litter, also the bathrooms there need upgrading and the extra car parking needs to be open on weekends and school holidays. The rent in our area also needs to be cheaper we are 5 person family in a small 2 bedroom unit.271:Really need a hotel. No reasonable options anywhere nearby. The streetscape of Burwood Rd could be a lot better - looks unloved. The set of traffic lights on Chapel St/Canterbury Rd URGENTLY needs right turn lights on both sides of Chapel. Terribly dangerous there - I often give up & go straight because too hard. Fix that dangerous dip on Chapel St/Belmore side of intersection before someone gets killed.272:The Cook river is heavily polluted with rubbush. Who oversees the protection of this natural resource?

The amount of apartments being built along Canterbury Rd is a nightmre and clearly money is more important to local council than noise pollution, traffic choas, and having no connection to creating a sense of community with the design of the apartments. And when is Canterbury Rd going to be resealed? Its been over ayear for residents driving on a unsealed road.273:Please ensure that NO HIGH RISE is put in -This will change the character of the streets around the stations. While some high rise is necessary - I think the distance ( est 800,m) circle from around the stations is to large. Why not use current areas. The high rise on Wardell rd near Dulwich hill station is appropriate, but on the other side of the station the existing houses are beautiful. Why is that area marked as appropriate for High rise.274:I feel that it is important that a plan to clean cooks river is out in place. Now that we have a fair amount of units being built on the river line. To encourage cafes, restaurants, etc opening close to the shore, the river will need to be cleaned as it is visibly unappealing and the stench at times is unbearable. We have what could be the next "cabana bay, bay run" if we clear this up.275:Cleanliness and community awareness about cleanliness ie littering, dumping of waste or unwanted furniture and other house hold goods. Also driver attitudes and disregard of road rules.276:It will be very helpful if train service from wiley park to city is every after 7 minutes.277:The local Dulwich Hill area has a wonderful local community. It has streets of historic and beautiful homes. We wish to preserve the heritage of our area and do not wish for further high rise developments to occur in our area.

Page 34: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

There are many high rise developments recently completed or currently underway which contribute to traffic congestion. The assumption that people will use the light rail or trains is a false one.278:In the Hurlstone park/Canterbury area, there is a significant lack of nicer cafes and restaurants, particularly outdoors. All the older stores are closed along the older arteries (eg Cantebury rd), and they havent been replaced with anything. There needs some mid-market eat streets (ie. not kebab/chicken shops) without all the traffic (eg Marrickville rd). Because of this, we always have to travel further to Marrickville/Newtown/Leichart.

There are so many nice parks and other areas (eg along Cooks river) which seem to be going to waste and would be great to have open, park facing cafes, especially since it would be family friendly too. Also need more of the local corner shop cafe, as is starting to appear in Ashbury.

This is really what would make the general area nicer and more urban feeling. It would also be a necessity as the demographic is changing as the old Greeks are dying out and are being replaced with younger families.279:Entertainment/festivals in parks.

More services for young people after school and during holidays.

More creative art projects to engaged the community eg a community mural or community garden.

Government promoting Bankstown and its many positive attributes. What people hear the media is negative about area so more positive info.280:Give greater priority to pedestrians over cars. Narrow road ways, widen footpath and, like many cities around the world, reduce speed limits.281:The introduction of the light rail station at Dulwich Hill exacerbated parking problems for locals as commuters drive to the station and park for the day, then take public transport to the city. Time limiting street parking around the rail and light rail stations would give locals a fighting chance of street parking near their homes during the working week. Currently it is impossible to park in local streets after about 8.30 am.282:Real consideration needs to be taken about parking - in our street it is a nightmare for most residents as town houses and units don't park in their allotted car spots - they park on the street instead. We don't need any more units, town houses or villas in our street - the street simply want take it!!!!!!

Please talk to the residents and they all tell you the same .......283:stop the high rise in Dulwich Hill. There are too many multi story buildings going up284:I have no objection to some increasing of housing density as long as it is sensitive to the existing character, and supporting infrastructure grows with it (everything from increasing public transport capacity to ensuring there are enough bins).285:A Central Park or square eg in parking area next to new library286:The cooks river needs to be cleaned up.287:Improve design quality of new developments and ensure that approved designs are not modified. Keep development low rise, emphasise quality rather than quantity. Increase bus services, create new bus services that link with Dulwich Hill station. No high density or high rise development. The thing I most value about the area is space, light and openess this will be destroyed by high density/high rise housing.288:More trees, greenery, street art, hanging flowers, cafes. More street life, cafe life. I dont feel that there are streets you can just take a stroll in just because. The city is not equipped forsocialising. The streets are not inviting. I want to feel like walking down the street stopping for a outdoor coffee. Then xontinue my walk, sit under a tree. I am young and want to feel like i live in an area that accomodates social enteractions ans makes it easy to do so. All the sidepaths at the moment are just concrete slabs, dirty and lifeless. There also needs to be rules around shop front upkeep to maintain a minimum standard. Linda289:We needpre small parks and green spaces for children to play290:Dulwich Hill station should be a stop on express train services given it is now a main Transport hub.291:Maintain low density housing. Developers not interested in local community, just dollars in their pockets!292:The area around Dulwich Hill station has changed beyond recognition. Too many apartments in too small an area. Developments go up without real consultation with the community. The area needs more community centres and community facilities as the population is increasing with the new housing developments.293:The area is getting over developed and medium density and high density apartments are going in very time a site becomes available. It's too much for the area and the lack of adequate open space and community amenity294:Lakemba requires more rubbish clean up of streets, eradication of ibis birds (they are smelly, move trash out of buns and are unsightly). If we were to have more housing in the area esp near the station we do then require more parking for commuters, king Georgoes road in front of Wiley park (between Canterbury Road and punchbowl road) is a bad Bottle neck this requires some intervention as at times just getting through this block can take more than 10 minutes. Lakemba is known for its food but Haldon road can be at times dirty looking and as such off putting -- an urban renewal of Haldon road is needed asap.295:More art initiatives/programs would be great for the area. It is a sector that severely lacks support and opportunities and a great way to celebrate and build community.296:Revitalising the Hurlstone Park shopping area.297:Provide bicycle parking at Hurlstone Park train station.

Improved pedestrian movement, wider footpaths with kerb blisters providing good quality street trees and reduced vehicle speeds at Hurlstone Park shops (Crinan St and Duntroon St).

Activate laneways at Hurstone Park shops (Marcia Ln and Mill Ln)298:Fix the road surfaces, they are abysmal.299:Yes, right now I live in Canterbury and have to walk to Campsie or Earlwood to get my daughter to a medical centre. We moved to this area for the affordability and green space, but for a young family, there's very little in the way of community activities. We've strongly considered moving out of the area for that reason.300:Lifts at train station, currently no accessibility option for train.301:There is already a serious lack of parking in my area. The overproduction of new development at Dulwich Hill will only make it worse. The developments near the station are not in keeping with the local area and are substandard and ugly. New developments are overpriced and will not contribute to housing affordability. The intention to turn the Wardell road/ station area into a corridor of overheight apartments will cause issues in this area. The area behind Ewart lane should be considered for parking development for commuters to improve parking in the area for residents.302:Enough with the rail buses!!! I have experienced "track work" consistently for nearly six years! Enough already!

303:Family friendly options that promote all cultures that are part of the area and encourage community participation and spirit. Also consider those who need support and what can be done for them e.g. Migrants, refugees, homeless, people fleeing from domestic violence, mental health support, family and sexual health support, etc304:Family friendly options that promote all cultures that are part of the area and encourage community participation and spirit. Also consider those who need support and what can be done for them e.g. Migrants, refugees, homeless, people fleeing from domestic violence, mental health support, family and sexual health support, and ensuring fully inclusive and accessible community services and common areas, etc305:Social dialogue within the community. It is a shame that there isn't any interfaith dialogue opening up and theres still a lot of division in Lakemba. It is also a shame that as a young woman who has grown up in Lakemba, I am still looked down upon by men just walking down the street. It affects me because I am being educated and about to become an educator who is passionate about giving back to my community, to my roots but when I'm glared at by men, it makes me feel vulnerable and unworthy, it makes me question about really should I be giving back to my community or should I be investing in another suburb, who would appreciate what I have to give more. Regardless, I will still give back to my community as I believe that there needs to be a mutual understanding... Lakemba has a lot of potential and a lot of young people who can make a change - we just need that division to be healed. There are a lot of young people who want to get out of the area and those who want to give back. I think there needs to be more respect and understanding between minority groups and really trying promote a change in society. Women's empowerment is also another thing. I think there needs to be more support services, classes, opportunities given to the newly arrived people... it would be interesting to see what would happen to Lakemba in 20 years time.306:The area needs balanced medium density housing to transfer from industrial/commercial towards residential. At least near the station!307:Social dialogue within the community. It is a shame that there isn\'t any interfaith dialogue opening up and theres still a lot of division in Lakemba. Lakemba has a lot of potential and a lot of young people who can make a change - we just need that division to be healed. There are a lot of young people who want to get out of the area and those who want to give back. I think there needs to be more respect and understanding between minority groups and really trying promote a change in society. Women\'s empowerment is also another thing. I think there needs to be more support services, classes, opportunities given to the newly arrived people... it would be interesting to see what would happen to Lakemba in 20 years time.308:Less concrete, more green - more grass on footpaths, trees to shield pedestrians from traffic, some way to slow down cars around the entrance to Sydenham station. As a pedestrian it feels dangerous walking around the station as cars go so fast around corners heading towards Marrickville Road and coming from Sydenham Road.More Sydney Rail-created parking to reduce congestion on nearby residential streets.309:I doubt if much can be done about Railway Road and how busy it is...310:Don't overpopulate the inner west ;) please311:Artificial tree hollow installation supports local wildlife, which in turn supports the tree population.Dead trees are useful for many years beyond their decline. We can target certain species by selecting the hollow dimensions they prefer.Marrickville Council has already installed several habitat trees.

You can see examples of artificial tree hollows, and more information of habitat trees here - www.facebook.com/urbanhabitatcreation312:Preserving the heritage character of Dulwich Hill - a Federation suburb

Thoughtful and tasteful and affordable high density housing

Traffic and infrastructure feasibility - local roads are already at capacity and on-street parking near Dulwich Hill station is non-existent313:Punchbowl needs a complete clean up and ovehaul. The streets look terrible, road works are patch jobs and the congestion on Punchbowl Road is shocking. Also the parks aren't child friendly with bark as flooring, look at Burwood Park and how they have done the play area for kids314:Road surfaces315:There is definitely a lot more traffic congestion in my neighbourhood. This is not sustainable given that majority of commuters use Wardell Rd to travel in and out to the city.316:Golf courses! And connect the corridor. Create an employment centre, build on Campsie or even Canterbury - this will create churn and make the Metro more functional.317:residential parking permits318:General amenity the area is lovely but I am concerned at the loss of green space with the transformation of houses into flats I would like to see a greater investment access and equity in terms of funding for local school child care which need work and attention319:No more hihgh rise developments. We cant cope with we what we have, more parks320:I like this area and have been living here all my life, would not like to see more high rise apartments. We already have enough. Thank you.321:Belmore is a lovely neighbourhood with shops and cafes, I think it would benefit greatly with a more community focused environment such as markets / events etc that is already available in places such as Marrickville. More frequent transport options during Thursday-Sun to restaurant hubs such as St Peters and Erskinville would also be beneficial.322:Please stop selling our commonwealth off to private developers. Please start investing back into publicly owned and run services. Please stop relying on population growth to fuel economic growth. Please consider solutions other than exponential economic growth to improve our quality of life. Please stop unsustainable high density buildings being built in Sydney. They are often: energy sinks, poorly orientated, have no onsite renewable generation, have no onsite waste treatment and recycling facilities, not sympathetic to the local area, in places with limited public infrastructure and do very little to provide for affordable housing for local citizens. They appear to facilitate a transfer of wealth from local citizens to foreign investors.

Please build and provide for:A massive amount of dispersed sustainable social housing. eg City of Hope in Coffs harbour.http://cityofhope.com.au/Dispersed social housing helps cut down the amount of time people have to spend in private cars on private toll-ways getting to work and makes for a more cohesive society.

The planned Greenway alongside the Dulwich Hill light rail.Bicycle Superhighways - built along side, but separate from, major freeways - eg like M7 cycle way Tax Concessions for Electric CarsElectric Car Fast Car Charging FacilitiesLocal Agricultural Production to reduce food miles and provide employment.Micro - grids and community owned, locally situated, distributed renewable energy power plants with battery back up.

Thank you for considering my concerns.323:Maintaining current items and areas of heritage significance and identifying potential future heritage and street scape areas This includes preserving traditional early twentieth century shop fronts and historic 19th century subdivisionsRestricting larger forms of development to major transit nodes & existing centres with progressively lower forms of development the further they are from each railway stationDefining activity precincts boundary based on topographical features (eg ridges) and not necessarily on nominal walking distances from railway stations.324:New housing complexes should be height restricted. Each new unit should have a car space in the building complex. Maintaiin established heritage areas.325:New housing complexes should be height restricted. Each new unit should have a car space in the building complex. Maintaiin established heritage areas.326:Late night food availability and more bus services, plus cycleways.327:The existing areas are already "vibrant communities" . These should be no assumption that they are not vibrant. This unless the assumption is that revitalisation is to massively increase the urban density. and degrade the vibrancy that the community enjoys and wishes to preserve. There will be a dissolution of the community if the rampant population build up is thoughtlessly promoted as being revitalisation.328:4 ways:Providing the infrastructure to manage the already booming building corridor down Canterbury Road.Maintaining the local parklands as good community spaces.Preserving the Belmore character - there's a rich history of housing styles making the area of great historical interest.Train directly North/South.329:More coherence in overall planning to achieve development that is more sympathetic to local areas. No development that disrupts community integrity.330:don't allow anymore zoning of residential space above 2 floors331:I recognise the requirement to increase density around stations, however at the same time would like to see the character of 1920's Californian bungalows preserved. I object to the prospect of 12 storey high-rises next door. Lower level developments are more in keeping with what already exists in the suburb. Consider building above rail lines and in light industrial areas.332:More social /cultural activities and suitable venues in which to hold these activities.333:I live near Wiley Park Station. It is hardly to get parking lot for the residents because of train commuters park their cars in the residence area. Quite often we get booked because we have to park our cars on the grass in front of our house/unit334:How the increased number of dwellings will affect the area in terms of traffic congestion, pollution, convenience and amenability.

If there is to be a massive increase in housing supply there has to be a a range of shops and services that are in walking distance to reduce car use pollution and congestion. I have never seen this truly catered for in any urban redevelopment that has so far occurred in this corridor at Marrickville, Dulwich Hill and Canterbury.

So far we have increased in traffic, green spaces under threat or reduced, and shop spaces crammed into the bottom of unit developments. No improvement yet seen in providing facilities and increased urban amenity.

Have yet to see any council or state govt stand between a developer and block of land, and am pessimistic this consultation will improve things335:Pleasant, clean excellent quality cafes and outdoor dining in aesthetically pleasing surroundings.336:More cafes/restaurants with pedestrian access and safety, street beautification with more trees and plants in bankstown cbd. More outdoor eating venues. More police/security patrols to make the cbd safer for walking around at night.337:The design and landscapping of canterbury road. its not pedestrian friendly, particulary at night. requires a clear walking and a cycleway path.338:Better cycle paths that link with rail services, more public housing, better protection for the older built landscape, and end to developer driven development, greener cooler streets with good community facilities and less car traffic and and end to high rise in our already densely populated area.339:Need more apartment living choices near the train station!340:My main concern about Dulwich Hill at the moment is the over-development taking place. It appears rushed, disorganised, not planned very well, no thought given to infrastructure, and no concern for the impact on current residents. The over population of our lovely old suburb will impact on quality of life and affect the local character and sense of community. The traffic and parking is getting worse and there appears to be no consideration of this as we see hundreds of new apartments being built everywhere you look. The new high-rises going up at such a fast pace are making local residents very unhappy with council and with the state government.341:Punchbowl could do with a park large enough for people in the community go for morning runs and jogs.342:Walking to Sydenham station down Marrickville Road or Sydenham road is an unpleasant experience with crossings at the wrong point, no greening, no bus links to the station from central Marrickville... but Marrickville Council is working on this area creating a place plan, a cultural precinct and traffic measures. Please work with them.343:I feel that a critical traffic flow analysis needs to be conducted in order to address the bottlenecks. Also in Belmore, the street width is no longer suitable for the modern car dimensions and needs to be widened. An opportunity to do this is to make the nature strip smaller.

We are starting to also see an increase in pet owners not picking up after their pets. I'm not sure what can be done to address this but perhaps a routine of street cleaning will help increase the cleanliness of public paths.344:The reduction of unit development and the height of these developments in areas not suitable for such developments.345:Things that will encourage people to use public transport and cycling rather than rely on cars and roads. Apartment blocks on Wardell Road near the station and redevelopment of the Wardell Road shopping street could work but it is important not to lose the heritage and character of the area which is one of its charms. Streets full of Federation era housing should not be overshadowed and overwhelmed by high-rise developments. Well-designed medium height apartments would work. e.g. The Denison in Constitution Road is an apartment complex which fits in well with the surrounding area in terms of height and general design (though it has other shortcomings).346:* Canterbury Train Station - allow shops to be built over the rail line so that the town centre is not split in half.

Page 37: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

* From Hutton Street to Canterbury Train Station, regrade green area beside the rail tracks, plant trees and shrubs and create a biodiversity corridor.* Historic rail switching stations/ buildings at Canterbury, remove or do up. Have a plan for these areas.* All the new residential flats at Canterbury are being built too close to the river - make mandatory set backs.* There is no community centre for all the residential flats at Canterbury.347:Recently a number of high density housing units have been built near Dulwich Hill Railway Station. Compared to other types of housing in the area they are imposing, lack any positive architectural features and are not far removed from the brutalist school of architecture found throughout eastern Europe. According to people I questioned these units were originally rejected by council but were imposed by a higher planning authority. How will ordinary tax payers have their voices heard and listened to? A lot of high density apartments has already been built in the Marrickville Dulwich area and along the railway corridor. I don't believe these development or any future developments have met or will meet affordable housing criteria.348:Vitally important to me is the maintenance of existing stand alone primarily intact federation dwellings that have character and historical importance. Less unattractive expensive units being built, just immediately around the train station there will be more than 600 units completed by the end of the year. This is in addition to 1000 of units all along Ewart street. All these new units are very expensive to rent. Its important that streets like Wardell Rd have more trees planted and that we aim to preserve the heritage of the area.349:There doesn't seem to be much of an active plan in place to keep the bus interchanges froo of rubbish, and obvious signs of bird droppings and what appears to be urination stains.

Also, there are ALWAYS people smoking at the bus stops at Bankstown Central and the Station Interchange, but there is no visible security or police presence to issue fines, or to tell obstinate smokers that SMOKING IS PROHIBITED IN THESE PRECINCTS>350:Buchanan Oval (next to Bankstown Hospital) would much better serve the local community with a running/cycle track around it. Perhaps even fitness stations around the path also would really compliment the 'fitness feel' environment around the park. Many people walk/run around the circumference everyday, but tend to stay away during wet weather, as it becomes very muddy etc.a sealed track would address this.351:I would like to see the following improved. Traffic congestionBetter cycle waysParking especially cbd surrounding streetsDog parksGreener landscapeStreet ArtBetter overall transport options352:When too many people have to live on top of one another and community spaces/facilities such as libraries, parklands, public transport and commuter parking are not expanded and improved, tempers fray and quality of life decreases. Please, please, please do NOT build massive, multi-storey tower blocks with pokey, dark and over-priced apartments on every station or spare block of land along the corridor. Please DO introduce an express Bankstown - Central - Bankstown train service (at least in peak hours). Bankstown station and the adjoining mall could be redeveloped into a really amazing, attractive, functional combined housing, retail and community space. Keep the height mostly mid-rise, don\'t ruin the surrounding areas or deprive them of sun. Incorporate a community garden-cum-farm (vegetable plots, poultry, a couple of goats), expand the library (a really lovely community space) and consider a second branch that could accommodate and support study spaces for students, community youth groups, space for TAFE community outreach courses. Lots of greenery, sufficient parking for residents AND commuters. Thank you.353:When too many people have to live on top of one another and community spaces/facilities such as libraries, parklands, public transport and commuter parking are not expanded and improved, tempers fray and quality of life decreases. Lots of greenery, sufficient parking for residents AND commuters. Thank you.354:Both Bankstown and Canterbury Hospitals should be included in this corridor rejuvenation. They seem to just fall outside, though form an important service that should not be overlooked in this process.355:A big shopping centre eg. Westfield, where we can buy better products.More fanny restaurants or cafes.356:Less duplexes far too, many ugly designs, have one streets at Revesby Heights of parking on one side of the road only. Don't build apartments where the squash courts are and don't allow duplexes or housing or prayer centres to be build where the old Ex. Servicesmans Club was.357:Encourage higher density urban renewal and cafe/restaurant/convenience store growth immediately near Sydenham train station (especially in the direction of Sydenham/Unwins Bridge Road, not just towards Marickville). However, Sydenham green park needs to be preserved.358:Revert to old train time table with cronulla trains stopping at peek hour. No westconex359:i see my area falling prey to greedy development. I accept that areas along public transport corridors should support a higher population density, but the apartment blocks going up all over the suburb are ugly and unimaginative. If we must have apartment blocks let them be for low income earners, or using green technology, not just to make developers even richer.360:Marrickville is a vibrant community with a mix of housing which is about right. A little more density around the station area would make sense but too much high rise would create problems with traffic and overshadowing of public spaces.361:Limiting overdevelopment of multi-storey apartments that are not in keeping with the surrounding streetscape362:Minimise disruption to local residents when completing track work etc.Minimise noise from train lines eg sound proofing walls etc363:Agree - Units 800m from stations364:Less car traffic, less aircraft noise. Everything else is almost perfect.365:Reducing the noise impact of train stations on local residents ie noise barriers, quieter station announcements366:Suggest you focus on affordable housing outside of such proximity to stations and the cityCreate underground parking for all housing and council leases them to the home owners (at small discount to market) or local workers (at market). Fill any remaining spots with car share when vacant. Lease based on time (time in spot) with light indicators for vacant spots (like shopping centres). If the parking can go under the stations with lift access up even better.

Sorrounding path, pavement & lighting improvement.2 more entry points to Sydenham station (East & West) cuts a few minutes of walking to the top and not near bus/car drop offAcoustic measures for all buildings within 800m of Sydenham station as its unbearably loud367:Development of both retail and dining in the Sydenham area. Supermarkets and more cafes would be welcome.368:I live near Dulwich Hill railway station. Our area is being degraded by poor quality building taking place around the station. I feel like my neighbourhood is going to the dogs as a result. The poor quality of building being built in our area is making me ashamed of my district. Please work hard to ensure that only buildings with a high design aesthetic are approved for construction in our area.369:Improved retail and nightlife options. Too many of the same type of shops... Need more diversity in retail, more nightlife. Improvement to schools, maintenance etc370:Bus and train connections that are a single journey on opal. Incentivise passengers to combine the 2 modes rather than paying twice for a journey.371:Ensuring safe play areas for children and access to and from these areas in public areas and in new development; where children have space and can be easily observed; community spaces and hubs where neighbours can gather and socialise; new development that is aesthetically pleasing - that which has occurred near Dulwich Hill station is an eyesore. Adequate parking in new development; housing affordability. There's plenty if rhetoric but it is becoming more difficult to rent in this area. The effect is decreasing diversity in the community - one if the key social assets of this area which is in decline and disruptive to families' and individuals' connections.372:On the Hume Hwy next near the three swallows and world gym where the old hard ware use to be..would be nice to see a big development of shops cafes and restaurants similar to little sigon plaza also the park opposite to it would be nice to better the sporting facilities water park landscape will be a great idea of collaboration with the boarders of Yagoona and Bankstown..!Cheers and Regards.373:There needs to be greater range of affordable housing options in the area, such as more community housing and permanently affordable ownership options. The existing cultural and commercial uses around the Marrickville/Sydenham industrial area need to be supported - the area is flood prone and under the flight path, so not amenable to high density housing, especially not market-rate housing that will displace the vibrant local economy.374:Improved parking for residents; ways to discourage unit dwellers from filling their parking spaces with stuff and then parking on the street375:Improved parking for residents; ways to discourage unit dwellers from filling their parking spaces with stuff and then parking on the street376:better bike lanes, better bus lanes, more trees377:Improved roads to reduce traffic noise.378:Less obvious examples of corruption and dishonesty i.e. West ConnexNo WEST CONNEX, it will bring hideous choking traffic into our neighbourhoods and won't solve any of the issues it purports to be the solution to.Better bed number mix in multi residential development and developments that break the height and FSR NOT being approved.Restrict the number of sites that can be amalgamated for mega developments allow neighbourhoods to grow and develop over time.Offer incentives for smaller developers to produce more sustainable owner occupier type developments as opposed to massive investor driven developments.379:Very keen for produce markets/markets in general. More events making use of the library/other community spaces would also be much appreciated380:NO MORE APARTMENTS!! The rate at which these are currently being built is not sustainable. It is negatively impacting the local streetscape, traffic congestion and parking options.381:Loading zones and passenger pick-up and drop-off382:If the state government managed to knock down half of Sydenham to put in a third runway, I'm not sure how there are going to add more housing to the area…. would be a little hypocritical, wouldn't it?383:Prioritise funding, construction and promotion of public transport and active transport over private car ownership and use.384:Doing something about rubbish dumping (really bad in South Marrickville)Relocation of public housingReplacing diesel locomotives with electric in freight trainsLess aircraft noise (make everything take off towards Botany Bay)Traffic management done by competent parties and not councils who hate cars/have a love affair with speed humps and other traffic obstacles385:Affordability of housing is paramount.386:Traffic congestion through Sydenham should be addressed.387:There is currently an explosion of new DA's in the west Dulwich Hill area that cannot currently be supported by the existing levels of public transport services and the road network. Unless there is considerable investment in transport infrastructure and a focus on road congestion this project will be a major waste of time and money. More thought needs to be put into car parking close to train stations. People will always drive to train and light rail stops and will always drive their cars on the weekends. Dulwich Hill train/light rail station has no parking close by and therefore the streets around the area are clogged from early in the morning to late at night therefore local residents are inconvenienced.388:Dont rezone low density residential areas to make way for anymore high rise apartments near station. Make developers stick to MLEP limits & once Development applications approved DO NOT ALLOW THESE TO BE AMENDED UNDER SECTION 96 MODIFICATIONS. If you continue to allow the mass build up of new housing around Marrickville, you are taking away amenity, space & quality of living from residents already here as well as creating major transport issues on Illawarra road, that already feels like a slow moving car park. More cars are filtering into my street in a rat run to avoid Illawarra road.389:Any apartments need to be well designed and not too high. The higher they go, the more shaded the streets will be, I prefer trees for shade.

Some apartments built recently in the area don't look like the original plans and look characterless and dull. This is a vibrant area. Keep it that way.390:Affordable housing is bad. just short term developer profit then 5yr later same cost poor quality slum. People don't really understand what this planning term is! Medium density ok but not by destroying heritage houses. Medium density must be compensated with better Rd & open spaces. 3% rate increase should be development levy not on house owners.391:Hurlstone Park, is unfortunately in need of a complete overhaul. As much as I adore my area, I always find myself venturing into more offering suburbs like Earlwood or Marrickville. Most of the retail shops along the strip at Hurlstone Park are either being used as a residence with curtain window shop fronts or completely empty. We have such a GREAT little suburb where growth within our suburb is DRASTICALLY needed. There are no new developments in Hurlstone Park and I believe we need MORE PEOPLE.. We need to contribute to the future of our suburb.392:Turning the golf course on the River Goolay'yari (Cooks River) into a community garden.393:Low rise housing around Dulwich Hill Station should be preserved for the value of its historic character. This and the tree lined streets make for a pleasant place to live. The addition of multiple ill-thought-out high rises in the area would irrevocably change Dulwich Hill into an unsightly suburb with an alienating feel. It's not worth it just to put money in the developers' pockets. This type of expansion should be kept to a minimum.394:Tree lined streets395:Parking is really limited in Sydenham, so developers should provide adequate spaces for occupants and visitors.

Page 39: NSW Department of Planning and Environment Sydenham to Bankstown Online Survey Results ... · 2019. 11. 21. · The online survey forms part of a suite of consultation tools to engage

There are no high rise developments in Sydenham; it has a Victorian village flavour, so high density projects should go underground or be discreet in their streetscape - no higher than 3 storeys. The already high density of the built environment means that rainwater runoff and power consumption are taxed; new buildings should have rainwater tanks, grassed areas to absorb runoff and rooftop clothes lines and garden areas. Spend some money on vertical gardens (That building on the corner of Unwins Bridge Road and Park Road was ripe for a vertical garden)396:Option for council clean up or local large waste options. Not allowed in the Hurlstone park 'cbd' apparently.397:Empty shop fronts are a big problem for Hurlstone Park. Even if there is no-one living in the front room, the closed space detracts from the street scape.398:Maintaining green space. Not selling of Hurlstone Park bowling club to be flats.399:Yes there are far too many shops in Hurlstone Park that are not used as shops - either they are closed or have people living in them. For an area around the station it needs some revitalisation and someone should investigate why so many shop fronts are being used for non commercial purposes.400:Hurlstone Park has a small village fell that would not benefit from more higher density housing.401:test test402:Fix the parking problem around Dulwich Hill Public School. Ensure that the path the children walk from Dulwich Hill Public School to Dulwich Hill Station stays accessible to them. Please don't wreck the area by allowing developers to build any more apartments that will become like slums and need to be knocked down in 30 years, like the apartments that have just been built across from Dulwich Hill Station that appear to have no windows.Be more transparent about what is being built and by whom - who the developers are.High and medium density housing can be well done or badly done. It's much easier to do it badly. Please don't do it badly.403:The cost of living in and around Dulwich Hill/Hurlstone Park is prohibitively expensive (but then this is the case for all of Sydney). We are lucky that our rent hasn't increased for a number of years, but we still struggle with it along with other family expenses.

The light rail has opened the area up wonderfully, with easy access to a lot more interesting areas, and there are so many open spaces along the Cooks River, which makes for easy and affordable family fun.

I would love a little music/theatre venue - maybe on Seaview St. I know this might not be the correct forum for this, but my biggest concern, resulting from the introduction of the Light rail and recent development of the adjacent Skatepark, is the dangerous parking situation at the bottom of Hercules St, Dulwich Hill. There is a sharp bend in the road with cars parked on either side (particularly on weekends). It is also the place where kids get their gear on to ride boards, bikes and scooters. My family love the skate park and go there regularly, but I am concerned that there will be an accident at the bend of road sometime. I guess what I am saying is that with any proposed development along the Bankstown to Sydenham stretch of rail, consideration must be given to providing adequate public transport, cycle paths and parking to utilise any new development with safety.404:Please make provision for affordable housing in the plans for redevelopment.405:In 20 years time no one will have anywhere to park, in suburbia or near a train station. Too many high rise without adequate street parking.406:Maintain low rise building limits, ie NO more 10 storey -blocks please ;and prevent 'uglifying' our rail corridor with blocks of flats.Reduce numbers of speed humps - as well as standardising the quality and consistency of speed humps materials , rise and fall,.- they are ugly , unpredictably rough on suspension, and increasing vehicle owner frustration on wear and tear .Use speed humps closer to intersections rather than just in mid sections of back roads.Get rid of buses from pulling into and out of Dennison Rd for Private school drop of; kids from trains manage to cross roads safely - aren't the bus boys capable ?407:too much development re units causing more congestion taking away our peaceful quiet environmnt.408:Manage roads near major developments. How are all the thousands of new residents near Canterbury station going to access Canterbury Road from these small streets the apartments are built on? Canterbury Road will become very congested.409:Dulwich Hill has a well preserved street scape and community feel. The priority should be to prevent any more multi story apartment developments.410:remember that dulwich hill is an old historic area with many period homes and small residential streets, building high rise apartments near the rail corridor sounds great but we dont have the infrastructure to uphold it.411:Keep the heritage aspects but ensure there are facilities for the elderly, less baked and disabled. My son is a wheelchair and finds it hard to use a lot of facilities in the area when he visits. He also finds it hard when the 2 local bus routes (1 private - 1 Syd buses) aren't always wheelchair accessible from campsite or bel more stations which are412:Preserving the built environment is vital. This is a heritage area with quality houses and flats. Newer structures near Dulwich Hill station are of poor design. I do not know of their quality. If new housing is built in Dulwich Hill, there should be overall design planning in order to preserve the harmonious quality of the suburb. Council and State planners should insist on following regulations concerning streetscape and building design and materials which all should work harmoniously with the current appearance of the area. Tower blocks and high density housing are inappropriate.

Whilst it is obvious that inner Sydney needs more housing, it should not be at the cost of destroying local built environments and local neighbourhoods currrently working very well.

Affordable housing is obviously a whole nation problem and a particularly Sydney one. New rules should be applied so that affordable housing is available in every new building project.413:Safety of pedestrians at Dulwich Hill station overpass. Currently this "zebra crossing" is dangerous and will be increasingly so due to increased usage of the station and poor visibility.

Stricter controls on the design of apartment blocks. The ones under current construction and recently built are ugly, look cheap and overwhelm the area. They are already dating. Further attention to design and visual and operating "green-ness" of the construction should be a priority.

Safe traffic management and accessible sporting facilities around Dulwich Hill public school should also be a focus of urban renewal in the area.
