NSLAN1 Ethernet Board Installation GuideWarnings and Cautions

Warnings and Cautions Before installation, turn off the external circuit breaker which supplies power to the system.

Warnings:

• Before connecting the device to the power supply, verify that the output voltage is within specifications of the power supply.

• Do not apply power to the system until after the installation has been completed.

• Personal injury or death could occur, and the equipment could be damaged beyond repair, if these WARNINGS are not observed!

Fire Safety and Liability Notice Never connect card readers to any critical entry, exit door, barrier, elevator or gate without providing an alternative exit in accordance with all fire and life safety codes pertinent to the installation. These fire and safety codes vary from city to city and you must get approval from local fire officials whenever using an electronic product to control a door or other barrier. Use of egress buttons, for example, may be illegal in some cities. In most applications, single action exit without prior knowledge of what to do is a life safety requirement. Always make certain that any required approvals are obtained in writing. DO NOT ACCEPT VERBAL APPROVALS, THEY ARE NOT VALID.

Honeywell Access Systems never recommends using the NS2 or related products for use as a primary warning or monitoring system. Primary warning or monitoring systems should always meet local fire and safety code requirements. The installer must also test the system on a regular basis by instructing the end user in appropriate daily testing procedures. Failure to test a system regularly could make installer liable for damages to the end user if a problem occurs.

Warnings:

• EARTH ground all enclosures, for proper installation.

• Use suppressors on all door strikes. Use S-4 suppressors for installation. Honeywell Access Systems recommends only DC strikes.

• IF ANY DAMAGE TO THE SHIPMENT IS NOTICED, A CLAIM MUST BE FILED WITH THE COMMERCIAL CARRIER RESPONSIBLE.

• Electrostatic discharge can damage CMOS integrated circuits and modules. To prevent damage always follow these procedures:

NSLAN1 Ethernet Board Installation GuideWarnings and Cautions

• Use static shield packaging and containers to transport all electronic components, including completed reader assemblies.

• Handle all ESD sensitive components at an approved static controlled workstation. These workstations consist of a desk mat, floor mat and an ESD wrist strap. Workstations are available from various vendors.

Cautions:

• This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.

InstallationThis section describes how to install and get the NSLAN1 Ethernet Board online and working.

Programming NoteThe NSLAN1 will be programmed from a Command Prompt using the ARP command. ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) is a TCP/IP protocol used to convert an IP address into a physical address (called a DLC address), such as an Ethernet address. A host wishing to obtain a physical address broadcasts an ARP request onto the TCP/IP network. The host on the network that has the IP address in the request then replies with its physical hardware address (MAC address).

Required Equipment • NS2 Control Panel

• NSLAN1 (Ethernet Board and Mounting Kit)

• A Networked Computer.

• A Network Crossover cable to connect directly to the NS2 or a Network Connection that is on the same network segment as the NS2.

Note: When programming the Ethernet board, verify that you're not initially going through a gateway or a router. When programming is complete the unit can be installed on a different network segment.

Hardware Setup and Installation 1. Before mounting the NSLAN1 onto the NS2 Control Panel,

take note of the MAC address on the back of the NSLAN1 Ethernet Board. This address will be needed during programming of the board as well as an IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway, which your MIS/IT department will assign.

• MAC Address____________________________________

• Static IP Address__________________________________ (Check with MIS\IT Department)

• Subnet Mask _____________________________________ (Check with MIS\IT Department)

• Default Gateway__________________________________ (Check with MIS\IT Department)

2. Set the NS2 DIP switches.

3. Mount the NSLAN1 Ethernet Board to the NS2 board. Refer to Mounting Diagram on page 12.

NSLAN1 Ethernet Board Installation GuideNSLAN1 LEDs

NSLAN1 LEDsThere are four LEDs on the NSLAN1 that can indicate if the NSLAN1 (Co-Box Micro) is malfunctioning. 1 (Red) > O O < (Top Green) 23 (Yellow) > O O < (Lower Green) 4 • LED 1 (Red): Error and diagnostic LED

• LED 1 and LED 2 (Top Green) together indicate a series of diagnostic patterns:

Note: If the LED 1 (Top Red) is on or blinking, the LED 2 ( Top Green) will give a diagnostics code. There is a fatal error and the NSLAN1 is not working. See below for error patterns.

LED 1 (TOP RED) SOLID ON, LED 2 (TOP GREEN) BLINKING• 1x: EPROM checksum error

• 2x: RAM error

• 3x: Network controller error

• 4x: EEPROM checksum error

• 5x: Duplicated IP address on the network

LED 1 (TOP RED) BLINKING, LED 2 (TOP GREEN) BLINKING• 4x: The network connection is faulty. This should only appear after

power up. Even though the NSLAN1 is going into operation mode, the problem will potentially persist.

• 5x: No DHCP response was received

LED 2 (Top Green):Displays the status of channel 1:

• Solid – Channel 1 is idle.

• Blinking (1 sec. cycle) – the channel is connected over the network.

This LED is also used for diagnostic and error detection when combined with LED 1(TOP Red), see above.

LED 3 (Lower Yellow):• Solid – Channel 2 is idle.

• Blinking (1 sec. cycle) – Channel is connected over the network.
