• 1965: The Elementary & Secondary Education ACT (ESEA)

• Established Title 1 funding• Distribution of federal funding to address the “achievement gap”• Initial method of school accountability and education equity

• 1973: Rehabilitation Act, Section 504• No discrimination against persons with disabilities if org

receives fed funding• Modified with Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act

of 2008• Increases definition of disabilities

• 1975: Congress enacts Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public law 94-142)

• Recognizing and requiring for students with special needs that the needs and rights of a free appropriate education

• 2006-07: School board approved pilot program for “My Life Plan” (MLP)

• Piloted 3 methods of delivery• Naviance selected

• 2007-08: MLP approved as graduation requirement

• 2009-10: MLP pulled down into grades 6-8• 2010: First class graduates with MLP• 2011: Incorporation of Naviance’s Success
