Naomi Osaka

Of Haitian and Japanese heritage, Naomi Osaka is the 2018 U.S. Open Champion, besting tennis great Serena Williams in a controversial title game. Osaka was born in Osaka, Japan. She and her sister Mari were given their mother’s maiden name for practical reasons while living there. Her father, Leonard Francois began training his daughters after watching the achievements of the Williams’ sisters in the sport. Naomi was three; her older sister was four. The family moved to the U.S in 2000. When she turned pro, her father made the decision to register her with the Japan Tennis Association. We have an opening for an energetic, part-time volunteer, intern in our Olympia office. We seek a well-informed individual with a demonstrated interest in policy and African American issues. Our intern will attend legislative hearings, speak with legislators and support our Commissioners in advocating for our community. Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and good writing skills are required. Experience dealing with elected officials and the public is preferred. Interested? Apply Now! House and Senate Page Positions

During each week of the legislative session, approximately 35 students ages 14 to 16 from all across the state serve as legislative pages. Legislators sponsor the pages, who assist with the Legislature's work by making deliveries and performing other necessary tasks. Pages are paid $35 dollars per day for their service and page for one week of their choice.

Pages also spend part of each day attending Page School to learn about the Legislature's role, its process, and participants. A certificated teacher and teacher’s assistant with

experience bring a wealth of knowledge, and enthusiasm teaching civics to those in the program. Apply early! Applicants can apply for both House and Senate Page Programs, but can only serve in one chamber, not both.

Attendees who have a current eyeglass prescription (no older than one year) may skip the exam and just get glasses. Last year 1,259 pairs of glasses were dispensed at no cost. Project Access Northwest will help patients who need follow-up vision care after the clinic.

Clinic registration begins at 6:30 AM. Interpreters will be available

on-site.
