Saint Sharbel Makhlouf, born May 8th, 1828

in Bekaa Kafra (North Lebanon)

joined the Lebanese Maronite Order in 1851.

He was ordained a priest in 1859.

He lived in Saint Maron’s Monastery,

in Annaya, for sixteen years,

and twenty three years

in the hermitage of Annaya.

Pope Paul VI declared him a

Blessed on December 5th, 1965,

and canonized him a Saint on

October 9th, 1977.

Opening Prayers The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father,

and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit.

Our Father Our Father, Who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

They Kingdom come, They Will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil,

for thine is the Kingdom, the power,

and the glory, now and forever.

Amen.

Hail Mary Hail Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,

Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners, now,

and that the hour of our death.

Act of Contrition My God, I extremely regret offending You

because You are infinitely good, loving

and sin is unpleasant to you;

pardon me through the merits of Jesus, my savior.

I ask you to bless me with your holy grace in order to

not offend you anymore and to practice patience.

Novena to Saint Sharbel

Day One

Oh, Miraculous Saint Sharbel, whose body overpowers

corruption, emanates the scent of heaven, come to my

rescue and grant me from God the grace

which I am in need of (name the grace).

Amen.

Oh, Saint Sharbel, pray for me.

Oh Lord, who has bestowed upon Saint Sharbel the

grace of faith, I plead to you to grant me through his

intercession that divine grace to live according to Your

commandments and Bible.

The Glory is Yours until the end.

Amen.

Hail Mary,…

and Glory Be.

Day Two

Oh, Saint Sharbel, Hero of monastic life, who

experienced suffering, and whom Lord Jesus made a

bright beacon, I resort to you and ask through your

intercession the grace (name the grace).

I confide in you.

Oh, Saint Sharbel, vase of perfume,

intercede for me.

Oh, God of complete benevolence, who honored Saint

Sharbel by giving him the grace to perform miracles,

have mercy on me and grant me what I ask from you

through his intercession.

Day Three

Oh, Saint Sharbel, the amiable,

who shines like a bright star in the church sky,

brighten my way, and fortify my hope.

whom you perpetually worship.

Oh, Saint Sharbel, the example of

patience and silence, intercede for me.

Oh, Lord Jesus, who sanctified Saint Sharbel and

helped him to carry hi cross, give me the courage to

bear life’s difficulties with patience and submission to

your divine will through Saint Sharbel’s intercession, to

you be all gratefulness forever.

Day Four

Oh, Saint Sharbel, the affectionate, I resort to you. My

confidence in you fills my heart. With the power of

your intercession with God, I am waiting for the Grace

Oh, Saint Sharbel, orchard of virtue,

intercede for me.

Oh, God, you who granted Saint Sharbel the grace of

your resemblance, grant me the help to grow in the

Christian virtues and have mercy on me to be able to

praise you

Day Five

Oh, Saint Sharbel, loved by God,

enlighten me, help me and teach me

how to please God. Hurry to my rescue.

Oh affectionate father, I beg of you to ask God for this

me.

Oh, God, hear my demand through

Saint Sharbel’s intercession.

Save my poor heart and give me peace.

Calm the troubles of my soul.

Day Six

Oh, Saint Sharbel, all powerful intercessor,

I ask you to fulfill the grace which I am in need of

Oh, Saint Sharbel, joy of heaven and earth,

intercede for me.

Oh, God, who chose Saint Sharbel

to defend us before your divine power,

Day Seven

Oh, Saint Sharbel, loved by everyone, helper of the

needy; I have firm hope in your intercession before

God. Entreat to Him

to fulfill this grace for me

Oh, Saint Sharbel, a star that counsels the bewildered,

intercede for me.

Oh, God, my numerous sins hinder your grace to reach

me. Grant me the grace to repent. Answer me

through Saint Sharbel’s intercession. Return the joy to

my sad heart and grant me my demand. You, the

embodiment of graces, all glory and gratefulness be

unto you.

Day Eight

Oh, Saint Sharbel, whenever I see you kneeling down

on the cane mat, fasting, abstaining and absorbed in

calling God, my hope and my faith in you augment. I

beg of you to help me to receive the grace that I am

asking for

Oh, Saint Sharbel, absorbed in God,

intercede for me.

Oh, Jesus, the most peaceful, you who raised your

beloved Sharbel to Christian perfection,

I solemnly ask you to grant me the grace to spend the

rest of my life

Day Nine

Oh, Saint Sharbel,

here I am at the end of the Novena.

My heart gets nourished when

I speak to you. I have great hope

that I will obtain from Jesus

the grace I asked for through your intercession.

I repent, and I promise

that I will never ever fall into sin.

I ask you to fulfill my demand

(name the demand).

Oh, Saint Sharbel,

crowned with glory,

intercede for me.

Oh. Lord,

you listened to Saint Sharbel’s prayers,

and you fulfilled the grace

of being with you,

have mercy on me

in my moment of distress.

I approve of you, Oh, miraculous Saint Sharbel.

I am short of words, which express my approval

to your deeds.

Always help me to deserve the graces of God

and also deserve your protection.

The second prayer formula to be recited every day to honor Saint Sharbel and to obtain graces.

God, the infinite and glorified Saint within your Saints,

who inspired the Saint monk and hermit, Sharbel,

to live and die in the perfect resemblance of Jesus.

You granted him the power to detach from the world

and to live in his hermitage,

the heroism of monastic virtue:

poverty, obedience and chastity,

we ask from you to grant us

the grace to love and serve you in his example.

Lord almighty,

who manifested the authority

of the intercession of Saint Sharbel

with numerous miracles and favors,

grant us the grace (name the grace),

which we ask for through Saint Sharbel.
