The Grieving with Great Hope Conference Is a path through the grieving after the death of a loved one. We
connect with other people on the same path, not necessarily the same journey. There are no stages to grief on this
journey, everyone experiences loss in their own way. It is with prayerful reflection, practical learning and personal
fellowship we learn to continue this journey in life after the loss of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandchild, or
friend. Please come join us at Saint Cecelia Cathedral’s Msgr. Graham Building on Tuesday evenings, Oct. 5th

based on Our Lady of Guadalupe. Scott Watts of Hope of the Poor, works with the people who live
in the city dump in Mexico City which is very near the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He has
become an expert on the spirituality, miracles and mysteries of Our Lady of Guadalupe and will
lead this morning of reflection. A terrific opportunity to learn more from a local resource.�

The Serra Club of West Omaha invites you to join us for a special Mass for Vocations at
5:30 PM on Monday, Nov. 15, at St. John Vianney, 5801 Oak Hills Drive in Omaha, to pray
for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life within the
Archdiocese of Omaha. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Frank Baumert, Chaplain of the
Serra Club. Mass will be followed by a brief Meeting & Mixer.�Our speaker at the meeting
will be Deacon Harold Sawtelle of St. John Vianney. He will share his vocation story and

Eucharistic Miracles of the World Exhibit November 13�21���
St. Matthew in Bellevue will be hosting the KVSS Spirit Catholic Radio Eucharistic Miracles of the World
Exhibit November 13�21 in the church narthex. It features 39 panels that highlight some of the most pow-
erful Eucharistic miracles in the world.�Blessed Carlo Acutis designed and created the art for the panels
before his death from leukemia at age 15.���

Knights of the Holy Eucharist Talk Sunday, November 14, at 4:00 pm��
A Franciscan Friar from the Knights of the Holy Eucharist will deliver a compelling talk about the Eucha-
rist on Sunday, November 14, from 4 pm to 5 pm in St. Matthew Church in Bellevue. The Knights of the
Holy Eucharist are consecrated lay Franciscan brothers dedicated to fostering reverent devotion to Our
Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. All who attend are invited to stay for Vespers with Exposition from
5 pm to 6 pm.���

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time�
On December 10, 1979, a very petite holy woman known as Mother Teresa of Calcutta spoke these words
in her Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech, “But I am sure in the families and many of our homes,
maybe we are not hungry for a piece of bread, but maybe there is somebody there in the family who is
unwanted, unloved, uncared, forgotten, there isn’t love. Love begins at home. And love to be true has to
hurt. I never forget a little child who taught me a very beautiful lesson. They heard in Calcutta, the children,
that Mother Teresa had no sugar for her children, and this little one, Hindu boy four years old, he went
home and he told his parents: I will not eat sugar for three days, I will give my sugar to Mother Teresa.
How much a little child can give. After three days they brought into our house, and there was this little one
who could scarcely pronounce my name, he loved with great love, he loved until it hurt. And this is what I
bring before you, to love one another until it hurts, but don’t forget that there are many children, many
children, many men and women who haven’t got what you have. And remember to love them until it hurts.”
Living authentically and walking with holiness always involves sacrifice. It has to hurt. Only actions
springing from true and deep sacrifice demonstrate true integrity. Without sacrifice, even what is
apparently a generous gesture can be nothing. It is no wonder that the widow who contributed from her
poverty received great admiration from Jesus and the young child in our story above the interest of Mother
Teresa. It is easy to make the houses of our lives look like they are in perfect order when in fact they are in
shambles within. Religion can sometimes make this hypocritical masquerade easy to accomplish. We can
find ourselves in all the right holy places, reciting all of the correct prayers, participating in community
collections, and reciting the proper doctrines only to find ourselves empty, shallow, self�focused, and
overly anxious about personal concerns. The one who learns to discover their inner poverty, their spiritual
poverty, is the only one who can truly place him or herself at the mercy of God. It is only when we allow
ourselves to be empty that we realize Who we actually need to fill us. This is the real meaning of trust.
Many of us are afraid to take the plunge. We allow ourselves to detach from only so much, always keeping
a watchful eye on the protection of our securities. We understand the value of poverty, but we do not want
to become too poor. As long as we are able to recognize this tension, our reluctance to let go and our
struggle, we can continue our journey of humbly learning how to love so deeply that it hurts. God
understands and waits.�
32º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario�
En la liturgia de hoy, Jesús nos enseña lo que vale ante Dios. Sus ejemplos ayudan a clarificar lo que
existe en el corazón de cada uno según su posición y estatus económico. Por un lado, Jesús condena
algunas actitudes y alaba otras. Desenmascara y confronta a los escribas y maestros de la ley, y alaba la
ofrenda de la viuda. Él observaba cuidadosamente para enseñar lo correcto, lo que lleva a vivir con
dignidad. Había visto el sufrimiento de los pobres, de los enfermos, de los huérfanos y de las viudas.
También, veía como los ricos se aprovechaban de los más pobres; no había ninguna consideración para
ellos, les cobraban impuestos, les hacían cumplir leyes injustas que ni ellos mismos cumplían. Ahora,
¿cómo hacemos para compartir lo que tenemos? ¿Damos de lo que nos sobra, como los ricos de los
tiempos de Jesús o somos como la viuda de Sarepta y la del Evangelio que generosamente dieron lo que
tenían desde su pobreza? Actualmente, es digno de resaltar la grandeza de los pobres, de los
inmigrantes que son ricos en bendiciones porque su confianza está puesta en Dios. Recordemos,
siempre, que Dios ve los corazones y no las apariencias. Lo que da valor es el amor con que se hacen las
cosas. “Yo les aseguro que esta viuda pobre ha dado más que todos los otros” (Marcos 12:43). En
resumen, el mundo necesita generosidad y confianza al máximo. Oremos con el Salmo 145: “Da el Señor
protección al forastero, y reanima al huérfano y a la viuda, mas desvía el camino de los malvados, El
Señor reina para siempre, tu Dios, Sion, de generación en generación”�

Question: Can you explain what we mean by a vocation or calling? I have heard this term used in many different contexts and am
not sure what it means. Does it apply to religious life?�
Answer: A vocation or calling refers to a spiritual experience whereby a person senses within oneself the closeness of God and what he is
asking in one's life. It is a realization of what one's part in God's plan could be. Vocation comes in all kinds of ways. Some are as dramatic as
St. Paul's, being knocked off his horse, blinded, and hearing God's voice. Others are less dramatic, often occurring over time through little
events and personal interests. Others happen in a hurry, accompanied by great spiritual insight or conversion. We often think that this applies
to religious vocation, but in fact, every Christian has a vocation, a calling to serve others in and through the church. Whether married or
single, religious or lay, we are all called to live out our baptismal commitment to preach and teach the Gospel message. Each of us has our
role to play in God's plan, and we become coworkers with God in the work of redemption. With a little confidence, a willing spirit and God's
grace, we can and will respond to his unique call. �

The Look�
Have you ever made the mistake of telling your spouse that you’re out of something � only to see them respond
with The Look? Then you realize it: of course, he or she knows you’re out of butter. They knew it before a butter
shortage was even a blip on your radar. We might go to the fridge and lament the complete lack of ketchup. Then
someone moves a couple items and show us the ketchup that so savagely eluded us just moments before. Someti-
mes, we all have “the look” when dealing with God. We tell Him our stores are empty. “I’m out, God! I can’t do
any more! Can’t give any more. Can’t take any more. It’s all gone.” But we forget: God is the keeper of our stores.
He is the one who fills them, and the one who watches as they empty. See, we don’t know how much we are capa-
ble of loving. We don’t know how much we are capable of serving. We don’t know how much we are capable of
hoping. We see everything with spouse eyes. Only our Creator truly knows the limits of His creation. Do you ever
make the mistake of telling God “I’m done”? Be careful the next time you do. Chances are, He’s far from finished
working.�
