Enroll in 4-H Today!

Many of you have already enrolled in 4-H for the 2019-2020 4-H year. If you have not, please go

to ia.4honline.com and log in with your 4-H family e-mail and password. It is okay to select the

“I forgot my password” option if you do not remember your password. There are many great help

sheets at: www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/page/4honline-information-families-and-leaders for you to

use when re-enrolling. Our goal is to have all re-enrolling members enrolled by November 1 at 4:30 PM.

Having members enrolled by November 1st helps club leaders and our staff by having current contact,

medical and project interest information so we can best serve you, our club members. To encourage this, all

members 4-12th grade enrolled (re-enrollment or new members) by November 1, will be entered into a

drawing for a wifi capable tablet. Clover Kids enrolled (re-enrollment or new members) by November 1, will

be entered into a drawing for a fun 4-H Goody Bag. We will also be rewarding the club that gets the highest

percentage of members re-enrolled by November 1st with their choice of a pizza or ice cream party served by

Extension staff! All enrollments received online or on paper forms by 4:30 PM on Friday November 1 will

qualify for both of these incentives. Winners will be announced at county convention. We also encourage you

to invite your friends and family to join the 4-H fun! 4-Her’s are our best “advertisers.” If you are having fun,

spread the word!

RE-ENROLLMENT CHALLENGE If we can get 300 4-Her’s and Club Leaders enrolled or re-enrolled by November 1st, we will have ice cream sundaes at County Convention, in addition to all the other neat prizes and giveaways.

Enrollment is in full swing and to begin your new 4-H year, start looking at the many project areas that 4-H

has to offer. You may choose one or more projects from 30 different areas. There is a 4-H project for

everyone! Think about: An interest you’d like to explore, a hobby you’d like to learn more about, a topic of

interest shared by you and your family or something that is fun for you! Remember to select projects that you

can get help from your parents/guardian, grandparents, friends or other 4-H members. Work with your

parents/guardian and leader to select your 4-H projects. Enrolling in projects helps us send relevant emails,

project reminders, and set up county-wide workshops.

Let’s say you want to learn how to take a photograph, feed a pet, build a doghouse, or plant a garden. When

you learn those skills, you also learn life skills such as how to make decisions, how to get organized, how to

keep records and how to work with others. All these skills can help you as you go through school and

beyond. For many 4-H’ers, an interest they have in certain 4-H project areas will lead to future careers. Not

sure where to start? Visit www.extension.iastate.edu/4h and click on the 4-H projects tab to explore the many

different project areas in 4-H.

Family Emails It is very important that when you re-enroll that you make sure you are giving us an email address where you want all important 4-H information through the year to go to. If you change emails, just simply call the office so that we can get it changed or log into your account and change it there. If you are not receiving my emails please call the office so that we can make sure you are getting the information you need. If you still want to receive the newsletter in the mail that is fine just make sure to check mail copy when re-enrolling. With any questions contact Shelby at the Extension office.

Club Officer Training is scheduled for November 4 at 6:30 PM and November 14 at 7:00 PM at the

Community Center in Atlantic. This will be a great opportunity for all club officers and leaders in Cass

County to gather, share ideas, develop leadership skills and learn about being an officer. This year we will

focus on duties as a club officer and skills to effectively run a meeting. If you are a club leader or officer,

plan to attend one of the training dates for important resources and to learn from other officers in the county.

Please RSVP to the Extension Office to attend either Officer Training date!

County Convention is a great time to wrap up the past year in 4-H and showcase some of the great things

you did in your 4-H club and/or with your 4-H friends. If you have group photos of some of the 4-H events

this past year, please share them for the County Convention Slideshow! Email photos to Shelby at

[email protected] to show the awesome things you did in 4-H this past year! Plan to attend County

Convention on November 10 at 2 PM to see your photos on the slideshow!

Are you or someone you know interested in recognizing our 4-Hers for their great accomplishments at the

County Fair? Consider sponsoring a trophy that is given out at the shows and events. We have a few

available trophies in various departments. Please contact the Extension Office if you would like to check on

available trophies or sponsor a trophy for the 2020 Cass County Fair.

All new 4-H members or those who haven’t attended new member night before, are invited to attend the

New Members Night on December 10 at 6:30 PM. Bring your parents and learn about the opportunities in 4-

H, learn about possible project ideas, record keeping, meet new friends, and much more! Please contact the

Extension Office to RSVP if you plan to attend this fun, informative event!

Are you doing something really neat in your 4-H

club or in your project area? Share it with your

local newspapers, they are interested in

showcasing your 4-H experience. Write up and

article about what you are doing, share a few

photos and get published in the newspaper. This

is a great way to fulfill the communication

requirement in your project area and share the

great things you are doing in 4-H! If you need

contact information for the local newspaper,

contact the Extension Office.

Right now is a great time to start planning for

project success this 4-H year. Set some personal

and project goals to work on this year. A great

time to do this is when you re-enroll for the year.

Set a goal for each project you sign up for, and a

goal to learn or try something new in 4-H this year!

This will help to keep you focused and get an early

start on your record books. Be sure to sign up in 4

-H online for any project area that you may be

interested in. This will help us get you the

information needed for those project areas

throughout the year. Check out project resources

on the state 4-H website: https://

www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/.

Are you not able to make it to officer training? Do

you need help with 4-H online? Want to learn more

about record books? Please contact the extension

office or email Shelby at [email protected] if

you need any help. Again this year Shelby is looking

to make Club Visits. If this is something you and

your club would be interested in please let us know

a good time and we will make it work! I am happy to

share details about a specific topic with your club, or

just sit in and learn!
