In the entrance of that building is a gigantic statue of Atlas, a beautifully proportioned man who, with all his muscles straining, is holding the world upon his shoulders. There he is, the most powerfully built man in the world, and he can barely stand up under this burden. “Now that’s one way to live,” I would point out to my companion, “trying to carry the world on your shoulders. But now come across the street with me.” On the other side of Fifth Avenue is Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and there behind the high altar is a little shrine of the boy Jesus, perhaps eight or nine years old, and with no effort he is holding the world in one hand. My point was illustrated graphically. We have a choice. We can carry the world on our shoulders, or we can say, “I give up, Lord; here’s my life. I give you my world, the whole world.” What a beautiful description of the reality of surrendering by faith to Christ. I hope we have all found the joy of believing in Christ so much, that we are able to surrender our whole world to Him. I look forward to seeing you in church Sunday! Danny

The great hymn, I Surrender All, calls us to understand that the life of Christian faith is a life of surrender. If I truly trust in Christ, then I will come to the place where I am willing to surrender all to Him. Bruce Larson in his book, Believe and Belong, tells how he helped people who were struggling to surrender their lives to Christ. Listen to His words.

For many years I worked in New York City and counseled at my office any number of people who were wrestling with this yes-or-no decision. Often I would suggest they walk with me from my office down to the RCA Building on Fifth Avenue. But now come across the street with me.”

On the other side of Fifth Avenue is Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and there behind the high altar is a little shrine of the boy Jesus, perhaps eight or nine years old, and with no effort he is holding the world in one hand. My point was illustrated graphically.

We have a choice. We can carry the world on our shoulders, or we can say, “I give up, Lord; here’s my life. I give you my world, the whole world.”

What a beautiful description of the reality of surrendering by faith to Christ. I hope we have all found the joy of believing in Christ so much, that we are able to surrender our whole world to Him.

I look forward to seeing you in church Sunday!

We will be participating in the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoebox Ministry again

this year. Information on this wonderful ministry and how to fill your shoebox is available

at the Welcome Center and on our website. Collection week is November 18th - 20th.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

This year we are collecting donations to stock our Food Pantry that will be opening in 2014 to help those in need in our community. We will be collecting food staples - dry goods, such as beans, rice, pasta, canned goods and boxed foods, toiletries, diapers. No glass containers please. A list of items we stock will be available on the Community Board. Items collected will be distributed throughout the year to provide assistance to families in our area. You may drop off your donations in the box at the Welcome Center.

We are also starting now to collect toys and gifts to supply our Christmas Store. We will be handling our Christmas Benevolence a little different this year by offering a ‘Christmas Store’. It will be similar to the Marine Corps’ Toys For Tots program. Please start now collecting items to donate. Details are available at the Welcome Center.

FOR CHRISTMAS

The Circle of Benevolence is selling poinsettias again this year as a project to support missions. These plants are florist quality and will arrive early Saturday, November 30 and may be picked up at the church that day from 10:00 a.m. to noon or on Sunday, December 1 before or immediately following the 11:00 a.m. service. We will take orders through Sunday, November 16.

We hope that some of you would like to purchase a plant which will be left to decorate the church and then, just before Christmas, will be delivered to nursing homes, hospitals, and shut-ins, to bring these folks some Christmas joy. We will have three sizes of plants this year – 6 ½ inch pot, 8 ½ inch pot and 10 inch pot; each size will come in three colors – red, white and pink.

Please turn orders in to the church office or to any Circle of Benevolence member, or place in the collection plate and include your check with your order payable to Circle of Benevolence.
