Once again we enjoyed the beautiful dining room and buffet of the Gretna TimbersRestaurant for our Christmas Party. The dining room was warm and cozy with a decoratedChristmas tree and twinkling lights. Our host Doug Frantz made all the arrangements . Heand his wife Alyse and daughter Anna, decorated the tables with pretty Christmas trees.Doug also made sure that the dining room was rearranged for better accessibility for all ourmembers. Thank you Doug.

The evening began with a delicious buffet set with a variety of fruit, salad, lots of sidedishes, pasta and meats . Everything was wonderful and plentiful …. and the dessert table wasfantastic!

Our entertainment for the evening was provided by the Katie Rudolph Trio. They playedduring dinner which was so nice . After dinner the program started with the awardpresentation for the Driving’n Old Car contest (see page 6). For the balance of the eveningwe enjoyed the music of the trio. They played a nice selection of tunes and gave prizes forthe first one who could identify the song. I found that we have some members who knowtheir music !

Thank you Doug for making the arrangements for this most enjoyable evening.

PA Dutch members have been spreading the old car gospel by driving their cars to our runs throughoutthe year. As matter of record, in 2015 we drove a total of 106 old car trips for the year. That is, addingup all the old cars driven on our runs throughout the year. In 2016 it was 120, 2017 it was 110, 2018 itwas 85. So, what happened in 2018? Severe weather was certainly a factor.

Our winners this year who drove their cars to most events are as follows.

1st; Barb and Frank Antonicelli drove their old Corvette and ‘57 Chevy Nomad in seven events whenthey weren’t in Florida. Congratulations folks……..and you were in Florida for a quarter of a yeartoo.

Also 2nd place are Donna and Barry Powell drove their ‘57 T-Bird to six events.

A short time after my son Jon moved back to Palmyra, Ireminded him that his 1970 BSA motorcycle was stillcollecting dust in the back of my garage. Early this year, hedecided to resurrect it. He worked so hard on it all Springand got it looking so good that I felt embarrassed that myidentical BSA looked so shabby next to it. So he encouragedme to do something about that. He heard about the “ClassicBritish and European Motorcycle Day” in Clarksburg,Maryland in late May. Upon showing ours bikes there, Jonwon 1st place in our class (British single-cylinder). Heexcitedly re-joined AACA and we both registered for theFall meet in Hershey. After attending the Lawn FireCompany “Biker Breakfast”, we set about detailing thebikes even further. Jon was able to find some rare parts onEbay for both his and mine (including a mini tire pump thatattaches to the frame).

We made our way (in the rain) to Hershey and parked side-by-side. Unfortunately for Jon, when he walked to my 1984GMC Caballero (Also in the show – HPOF class) to changeinto some dryer clothes, he missed Jay Leno, who stoppedby to admire our bikes. (See cover photo of Jay and Bill). When I asked Jay what he thought of the 441 VictorSpecials, he quipped “It’s like riding a jackhammer”, and“Of all the motorcycles I’ve owned, this one beat me up themost”. But Jon’s day was not a total loss: not only did theweather eventually improve, but we both won RepeatPreservation awards.

Hershey Hangover Tour makes stop at school

In October the Reading Eagle ran a nice articleabout the Hershey Hangover Tour stopping at theMontessori Country Day School in Cumru Township. It was organized by club member Tracy Lesherwho works part time at the school. The studentsgot the chance to check out the “horselesscarriages” and some even went for a ride.

A 1908 and a 1913 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost madethe trip to the school. The car owners weregracious to spend time talking with the students.Hoods were popped-open to make the event ahands-on experience. Kudos Tracy !
