Skye Writing...

Skye Patrick Director, Broward County Library

As the number one request from Library customers and stakeholders is for the Broward County Library to be open more hours, BCL is embarking on an ambitious plan to increase open hours within our existing budget.

Over the coming months you will notice changes as we get ready for this shift — in library lingo we call this our service model.

Today, at some library locations, customers can get their materials on hold without waiting in line. Soon this will be available at all library locations. We are going to make materials on hold available to customers on the floor so that you don’t have to wait in line to pick up the latest bestseller. Additionally, you will notice that some public service desks are being consolidated into a single information desk. Staff will be more available on the public floor, roving in the library stacks. As a customer that means staff may approach you to offer assistance rather than you coming to the desk to ask questions. These changes will help us to increase service at most library locations to six days a week, expand hours at the Main Library and increase the Fort Lauderdale Branch Library from two days a week of service to five days of service. My hope is to implement the new hours this winter, so be on the lookout for these changes at a library near you.
