This ForeCASTSM report analyzes nationwide Suspicious Hit While Parked Questionable Claim Referrals (QCs) from January 1, 2010, through June 30, 2015 in order to identify any trends or patterns that may exist within the data.

Section 1: Introduction

The data included in this report is for QCs submitted in the calendar years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and through the 2nd quarter of 2015. The data was retrieved from the NICB Questionable Claims referral data. A QC was associated with a suspicious hit while parked event if “Suspicious Hit While Parked” was indicated in the Referral Reason field. An NICB QC referral may have up to seven referral reasons. This report analyzes the 2010 - 2Q2015 QCs by Loss Year, Loss State, and Loss City. QCs without a valid Loss Date, and QCs with a blank or value of “NULL” in the Loss State were omitted.

Section 2: Executive Summary

There were 30,280 QCs identified for 2010 – 2Q2015 with a Referral Reason of “Suspicious Hit While Parked”. 2010 had the lowest number of QCs with 3,253, and 2014 had the most with 7,277. The year 2015 is projected to have the highest number of QCs with 8,456. Suspicious Hit While Parked QCs were identified in all 50 states including the District of Columbia. California was identified with the most QCs with 8,306, or 27%, of the total QCs. Los Angeles was the city associated with the most QCs with 1,6701 of the total QCs. 1The number of QCs may be higher. There were multiple QCs without a city name within the Loss City field.

Section 3: Number of QCs by Loss Year

2010 had the lowest number of QCs with 3,253, and 2015 is projected to have the most QCs with 8,456. With the projected numbers, this would reflect a 160% increase in QCs from 2010 through the end of 2015. The largest increase in QCs over one year was from 2011 to 2012 with a 29% increase in QCs. The average increase in QCs each year from 2010 through the projected QCs for 2015 is approximately 21%.

Section 4: Top 10 QC Loss States and Loss Cities

Suspicious Hit While Parked QCs were identified in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia. California was identified with the most QCs with 8,306, or 27%, of the total QCs. Wyoming was identified with the least number of QCs with 17, or 0.2%, of the total QCs. The Top 10 QC Loss States combined for 21,251, or 70%, of the 30,280 total QCs.

Los Angeles, CA was identified with the most Suspicious Hit While Parked QCs with 1,670, or 32%, of the QCs among the Top Ten Loss Cities (5,153 QCs among the Top Ten Loss Cities). Two (2) other cities in California also made the Top Ten: San Diego and San Francisco.

Section 5: Conclusion

From 2010 through the 2nd quarter of 2015, there were 30,280 QCs with the Referral Reason of “Suspicious Hit While Parked”. 2015 is projected to have the highest number of QCs with 8,456. The state of California was associated with the highest number of QCs with 8,306. The city of Los Angeles was associated with the highest number of QCs with 1,670.
