DIPSCOOP November, 2017 1 Dear Parents, We welcome you to the next edition of our newsletter. The October month saw a variety of Inter House competitions and in house social activities taken up by the school. Inter House Competitions Class: PREP. Diwali Special Assembly Diwali, the festival of lights that enlightens the hearts and brings joy to every heart was celebrated with traditional fervour at Delhi Public School, Hyderabad on 13th October, 2017. Decorated in vibrant hues, the school wore a festive look with diyas and lanterns adorning the main stage in bright colours. Students spoke about the significance of the festival- how good always conquers the evil. Children dressed up as various characters from the Ramayana. Students suggested ways of making the Diwali celebrations environment – friendly through a skit on Green Diwali. Class: Pre-Primary R-TUNES “Music is to the soul what words are to the mind”. The pre-primary students performed in the much awaited singing competition on October 24th. The Nursery students sang the song “Do a deer” while the Prep. Students sang “A beautiful day” with perfect coordination. The students sang melodiously to the beats, garnering a huge applause from the audience. Inter House Competitions

Class: PREP. Diwali Special Assembly

Diwali, the festival of lights that enlightens the hearts and brings joy to every heart was celebrated with traditional fervour at Delhi Public School, Hyderabad on 13th October, 2017. Decorated in vibrant hues, the school wore a festive look with diyas and lanterns adorning the main stage in bright colours. Students spoke about the significance of the festival- how good always conquers the evil. Children dressed up as various characters from the Ramayana. Class I: Best out of Waste

Best out of waste is an amazing way to utilize material which most of the times goes into dustbins. To unleash the creativity of young minds “Best Out Of Waste“ contest was conducted for Grade 1 on 10th of October 2017.The students participated with great enthusiasm and used variety of things like plastic bottles, sticks cloth, cans, dolls etc. and transformed the waste material into beautiful stuff.

Class II Drawing and Colouring Contest

Inter house Drawing and Colouring Contest was organised for class II on Tuesday, 10th October, 2017 on the topic ‘Clean and Green Environment. This event helped in generating awareness about the importance of keeping our environment clean and green. It was a fruitful effort to bring out the hidden artist in each of them.

Class III Elocution Competition

An Inter House Elocution Competition was held for the students of Class III on Wednesday 11th October 2017. The objective of the competition was to make the students confident and better orators so that they can fearlessly express their views on any topic. Class IV Skit Competition

An Inter House Skit Competition for the students of class IV took shape on Wednesday, 11th October 2017. The topic was ‘Fairy Tales- Ageless & Timeless’. Each of the sections chose a different popular fairy tale to enact in a time span of 5 mins. The young scholars were all dressed up for the occasion and fairies, kings, queens and witches dominated the scene.

Class V Calligraphy Contest

To inculcate habit of good handwriting among students an Inter House Calligraphy contest was held on 13th October for class V. There was a 100% participation from all sections of class V and the topic was “Swachh Bharat” The main objectives of this contest were, to motivate children to write neatly in good handwriting, to make children aware of correct formation of letter with curves and to use punctuations including full stop, commas and capital letters at proper place.

Class V Diwali Special Assembly

The special assembly on the festival of lights, Diwali, was held in Delhi Public School, Hyderabad on Monday, 16th October, 2017. It was conducted by the students of class V. This assembly proceeding was chaired by Principal Ms. Geetha Vishwanathan and Head mistress Ms. Rama Ananth.

The program commenced with students reciting the ‘Ashta Lakshmi Stotram’ and performing an invocation dance. The students then gave an introduction to the festival elucidating the beginning of how & why Diwali is celebrated. They discussed the importance of lighting lamps, saving nature, helping the needy, reducing noise and air pollution.

This was followed by a Diwali special cookery show, “Tasty and Healthy in Evana’s kitchen” where the children were shown the recipe of a sweet that they can make themselves without fire.

Thought of the day- ‘Diwali is about bonding of ritual of a belief that good will always triumph over evil, for dark night must always make way for morning light’.

Class VI Role Play Competition

Swatch Bharat Abhiyan is a cleanliness campaign initiated by the Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and run by the government of India. Delhi Pubic School, Hyderabad contributed in this ongoing process by conducting a week long campaign, special Assemblies, competitions etc. An Inter house Role Playing competition was organized for Class VI. Students dressed up and played different roles/ characters to emphasis on different aspects of cleanliness. Class VI Bhasha Diwas

To promote and portray linguistic diversity a special assembly on Bhasha Diwas was conducted by the students of class VI on 27th October, 2017.

The assembly was conducted in four different languages- Our national language- Hindi, the most widely spoken Dravidian language- Telugu, the mother of all languages- Sanskrit and the official language of 29 countries- French.

The importance of each of the four languages conveyed was enlightening and interesting. The multi-lingual news and song performance was quite unique and loved by all. The humorous skit in Hindi – ‘Pakhandi Baba’ left the audience in splits. It was a treat to watch the extraordinaire Surya Namaskar dance and the traditional dance performances.

The highlight of the programme was a wonderful poem recitation on Swacch Bharat.

Class VII Debate Competition

To provide an engaging learner-centered activity, an Inter House Debate Competition was held on 12th October, 2017 for class VII. Students debated over the topic – ‘Swachh Bharat can bring complete social change’ with great confidence and poise.

Classes VII & VIII Global Cyber Day

On 28th October, DPS, Hyderabad, hosted Global Cyber Day workshop. The workshop was conducted by technical trainers Ms Vartika Saxena, Director, IT Advisory and Saumya Sharma, Assistant Manager, IT from the KPMG. They cautioned the students against cybercrimes and bullying, which have become rampant across the globe, with teenagers being the main victims. This was a part of the Global Cyber Day Initiative by KPMG. The students were shown various presentations. The students were cautioned about the Dark Web, and how a seemingly harmless comment about how one is alone at home could suffice to make one a target for cybercrimes. In the hour-long session, the students and teachers alike were left wiser, more aware of ways and means to safe and satisfying in the virtual world.

Class VIII Digi Book of Ideas for a Clean India

An Inter House Contest – ‘Digi Book of Ideas for a Clean India’ was held on 13th October 2017 in the 2nd floor computer lab. Students were asked to create a web page according to the given specifications using HTML. The competition provided an opportunity for the young talents of Std. VIII to showcase their creativity, imagination power, ability to think out of the box as well mastery over techniques required for a great presentation.

Class IX & X Swatch Bharat Campaign

An Inter House Computer Contest for standard ix was conducted on 14th October 2017. The objective was to provide an opportunity to students to develop and understand their technical skills and express creative ideas. The topic was to create a brochure for “SWACHH BHARAT CAMPAIGN”. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from the students of all sections. Class XI & XII

To test the dynamic skill of students, a quiz competition was organized on 11th of October 2017, for 11th and 12th grade. Teasing their brains were different questions from interesting genres. Math, Science, General Knowledge, Geography and fashion, etc. The quiz was a wondrous event which sparked a lot of ideas in the mind of the students.

NIE 'Newsmakers Meet' The Times of India NIE organised a 'Newsmakers Meet' workshop where student representatives of various prominent schools attended in the alliance of Roots Collegium on 16th of October, 2017. The students were inspired to be the future newsmakers and news writers of the country, through a number of enriching and absorbing PowerPoint presentations.

STTI

The STTI session held on the 24th of October focused on the theme ‘Life is full of choices’. The Speaker for the session was Mr. Malladi Srikanth. Mr. Srikanth highlighted the important career choices one has to make as an individual. Knowledge, skill and attitude shape the personality of a person. He stressed upon working hard to achieve one’s goal. All in all, the session was informative and imparted the skill of becoming successful in life by the stories shared by him. Discipline is the key for achieving one’s goal and one must be regular in learning. The session was informative and every student took away valuable inputs from it.

Scholastic Writing Awards Competition has been taking place at the National Level for several years since 2007 and a book “For Kids By Kids” is published every year with the award winning stories. A student of class VI (now in class VII) of DPS Hyderabad, Siya Rath’s story has been featured in the 2017 edition. World Tourism Day by The Hindu & Telangana Tourism

The Hindu conducted an Online Essay Writing Competition on World Tourism Day and the winners were awarded prizes for their writing skills in an interactive function organised at the newspaper’s office. The event was organised in association with Telangana Tourism Department for the students of classes V to X, in the Junior and

Senior categories in English and Telugu. Siya Rath, of class VII, bagged the 1st prize in English essay writing in the Junior category & Sravani Bobba of class VIII was awarded a certificate of Merit, in the Senior category.

Special Events A Safety Awareness Workshop

A Safety Awareness Workshop was conducted in the school campus on 3rd October, 2017. Around 200 employees participated from the Transport and House-keeping departments. The participants connected with the speakers and there was an interaction session. The workshop stressed on Sensitization of School Children and videos were shown pertaining to child abuse and how to take precautions. The school counsellor spoke about the importance of handling situation when a person is stressed and how important it is to communicate. The topic of hygiene, dressing and being punctual was taken up.

Care for people Campaign:

“CARE for PEOPLE” campaign was undertaken by DPS Hyderabad on 21st October, 2017. Caring just not for staff but also for support staff who are always there to help us at any given time, the campaign was taken by the school as Social responsibility. The two hospitals that came forward for the said occasion were Apollo and Maxcure for health camp and Maxivision and Dr. Aggarwala eye camp for the eye check-up for 290 employees. The entire check-up of health and eye camp happened at the same time without any hiccups.

“Children are the living messages, we sent to a time we will not see”.
