Jane Gillespie Cross has taught painting, ceramics and other art classes since the 60s to adults and children. Education: B.A. Art, Southern Methodist Uni-versity, 1953, MS, University of Texas at Ar-lington/Art therapy, 1985; and Ph.D., Humani-ties / Aesthetic Studies, University of Texas at Dallas, 2001.
Dissertation, "Educating the Visual Imagina-tion: Paradigm and Process." Studied with Betty Edwards, author of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." Certified DRSB In-structor, 1995. Her goal with students is to assist them to discover their own unique ways of seeing the world and to develop their individual styles. As all art and writing students know, the journey of creative expression is a lifelong and healing joy. Many of her former students have gone on to wonderful adventures in art, including exhibiting in museums, selling their paintings on the internet and publishing their writings.
This Project is funded in part by the City of Richardson through the Richardson Arts Commission

Thanks to Asel Art, Artists’ Showplace and the RCAS Board for their support for our monthly competition.
Our new monthly competition is “Show and Share.” It is any creative 3-D item that doesn't fit our “painting of the month” criteria. This could include sculpture, jewelry, ceramic, textile, etc.
The month’s winner was Virginia Harris for her lovely sweater.
We need someone to take the role of Reception Chairman for the Regional Show. You would be in charge of catering, room reservation, music, and flowers.
There are very detailed notes and guidelines to help this person. It's a good opportunity to get involved and meet other members, and is a couple of months commitment. You can contact our President Beth Eschbach at [email protected] or Carol Powell at [email protected]

October Demo — Abstract Acrylic — Gail Delger
“A page from a different book”
We made a leap from realism to abstrac-tism at our October meeting.
Gail Delger led us step by step through her personal journey of creation — where and how she gets her basic design on which to work, and how she prepares and applies the various subsequent 4 to 5 layers.
She showed how she added interest with creative application of string and other ad hoc imprints.

Message from the President — Beth Eschbach
Richardson Civic Art Society P.O. Box 831027 Richardson, TX 75083-1027
The Membership Show is up. The works are outstanding. Congratulations to Marianne Phelps for Best of Show and all the other awardees for impressive works. If you haven’t seen it, stop by soon. Take down is Saturday, November 10th from 10 am to noon. Thanks again to Donna Head, Kathy Elliott, and all their volunteers who made the show possible. If you haven’t helped out with a show, consider vol-unteering next time. It’s a lot of fun and you appreciate what goes on behind the scenes.
Our first workshop with Marilyn Bourbon was a complete painterly experience - with pencil, watercolor crayons, sponges, watercolor washes, gouache, and acrylics - all in one painting. Ask one of the 14 attendees how much they learned from Marilyn’s energetic teaching style. She demystified the figure and taught us to use it as a de-sign element in our paintings. Thanks to Carol Powell for setting this up and taking care of all the details.
Our November meeting features Jane Cross as our demo artist teaching about drawing. We all should be able to apply what she teaches since drawing is the basis of our work. Come to the meeting and see if you can take your art a step further.
Holiday Critique is December 18th at Debbie Berman’s house. This takes the place of our December meeting. All are invited to attend. Bring finger foods to share and a painting to be critiqued by Marie Renfro. What could be better than an evening surrounded by art, artists, food, and festive decorations? Come and celebrate with us.
