November 14, 2019
■ The Conroe Independent School District will be opening a
new 1450 student junior high school in August of 2020.
Stockton Jr. High School will serve grades 7-8 and be
located at 2750 Excellence Avenue (next to Bozman
Intermediate School).
Why are we beginning a rezoning process?
■ Peet Jr. High School (2013) has a capacity of 1450 and currently has
1450 students (utilizing 2 portable classrooms).
■ Washington Jr. High School (1951) has a capacity of 700 and has an
enrollment of 964 students (utilizing 11 portable classrooms).
■ Washington Jr. High School will be repurposed as Washington High
School allowing the programs at Hauke (1939) to relocate to the
current junior high school site after Stockton Jr. High School opens.
■ Stockton Jr. High School with a capacity of 1450 will provide 750
additional junior high school seats in the Conroe feeder.
Why is this process challenging?
Schools are communities.
Families often have a history of attending a particular school.
Families often choose where they live to attend a particular school.
The ten year projection for the current CHS feeder junior high enrollment is
roughly 3500 7th and 8th grade students and we will have a capacity of
2900 with the opening of Stockton and the repurposing of Washington.
What are we trying to accomplish in this process?
■ Objectives:
– To develop an attendance boundary to populate Stockton Jr. High School while still preserving some campus capacity for future growth.
– To provide crowding relief to Peet Jr. High School and capacity for future growth. Our most recent demographic study projects Peet Jr. High to be at over 2400 students by 2028 and Washington Jr. High at roughly 1100 in 2028.
– Our goal is to reduce Peet Jr. High’s enrollment by roughly 300 students to allow room for growth that will occur over the next 5 to 7 years.

Proposed Scenarios
■ The committee has developed roughly 20 scenarios and has brought
forward three for feedback.
■ The committee also looked at zoning related to intermediate schools
to see if minor adjustments may be needed. There are two
intermediate scenarios for consideration as well as the option of
leaving the current intermediate zoning in place.
■ Two future campuses will have some impact on grades 5 to 6 zoning.
