Notice to Associate Members
From time to time the Secretary's office receives a note from an Associate Member indicating he or she does not realize that transfer to full Membership from Associate Membership is not automatic but by application. According to the Bylaws, "any person active in acoustics, who has an academic degree in acoustics or in a closely re- lated field or who has the equivalent of an academic degree in scien- tific or professional experience in acoustics, shall be eligible for elec- tion to Membership in the Society." An Associate who wishes to apply for transfer to full Membership should request an application from the Secretary's office.

Announcements of Society meetings
BBN announces schedule of five-day courses in industrial and product noise
Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc., acoustical consultants in Cam- bridge, Los Angeles, and Washington, has announced the schedule of its five-day training courses to be given during 1981 in ten cities in the U.S. and Canada. The course will be concerned with noise
control applications to equipment, products, and work spaces to help the engineer design ..... c[tueter products, mcorporate nmse control treatments in the use of {li'•se products, and achieve quieter work conditions in manufacturing areas. The course is entitled "Noise Control for Buildings, Manufacturing Plants, Equipment and Pro- ducts" and is to be given in the following cities: Honolulu, 11-15 May; Montreal, 25-29 May; Toronto, 8-12 June; Vancouver, 22-26 June; Washington, DC, 14-18 September; Houston, 5-9 October;
The call for papers for a Society meeting is usually mailed short- ly after the preceding Society meeting. This means members re- ceive the one and only call for papers approximately five months before a meeting. Since some mail may go astray and some mem- bers may forget they have received such a notice, we wish to call your attention to the list of future meetings in the News Section of each issue of the Journal. Here you will find the deadline date for receipt of abstracts for the next meeting and the name and address of the person (usually the technical program chairman) to whom abstracts must be sent. If, in addition, you wish to send copies of your abstracts to session organizers, of course you may do so. How- ever, we urge you not to depend on anyone else to get your ab- sixact to the technical program chairman on time.
