PYP Grade 4 visit to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

O n the19th of September, 2017 the students from Grade 4 visited the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Vastu Sangrahalaya. This beautiful museum building is a fine example of the Indo-Saracenic style

of architecture, a fine mixture of Arabic and Indian architecture.

The purpose of the visit was for the students to make connections on their learning of the unit on

“Ancient Civilizations”. A guided tour was arranged for RBK students to get a deeper insight on the

Mesopotamian civilization. An archaeologist, Ms.Urvi Akre, took the students around the museum

explaining how once a military hospital was turned into a historical museum.

Our students were exposed to artifacts, reliefs, jewelry, and tools from the Harappan civilization. They

also saw artifacts from ancient Mesopotamia, which they are currently studying, and had a chance to

see hieroglyphics from Egypt. It was a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand what they are studying

in class.

After the tour was over, the children visited the other parts of the museum that called their attention

the most. Some even had a chance to do some of the museum’s special activities and could experience

block printing, working with stones, or drawing miniatures.

May it be art, culture, weapons, jewelry, stuffed animals, coins, pots, or artifacts, each child had

something that attracted his or her attention.

It was truly an enriching experience that each child took home.

PYP Field trip to Bombay Institute of Deaf and Mute

O n the of19th September, 2017, Grade 5 went on a field trip to the Bombay Institute of the Deaf

and Mute in Mazgaon. The central idea of this Unit is that the children worldwide encounter a

range of risks, challenges and opportunities, hence with this visit they got acquainted with an

understanding of how physical incapability can be overcome and these weaknesses can be changed into

their strength. Here they are given vocational training, which will help them maintain themselves in the

future.

Our students realized that he students there were learning in a very different way. They used sign

language and auditory headphones to support their hearing. As an integral conclusion to their learning in

this unit the students of RBKIA grade 5 organized a Fun and Food Fiesta in school and raised funds. With

these funds they donated books, soft toys, pencil boxes, pens and eatables.

“Equality is the public recognition, effectively expressed in institutions and manners, of the principle that

an equal degree of attention is due to the needs of all human beings.” -Simone Weil

It was wonderful to see our children mingle with these students. Communication couldn’t be a barrier to

bring them closer.

PYP World Peace Day

The students of K1 celebrated World Peace Day in the PYP library on the 21st Sep. It was a short, but

very nice morning, which included a note on peace, a song, and a dance, followed by a peace march.

The children were informed about the meaning of Peace and how it can be applied in everyday life. It

was a morning filled with information and fun.

“Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

To celebrate today’s International Day of Peace, Kids of Grade 1 made posters and shared their practical

suggestions on what they can actually do to work towards peace and tolerance in our class- like don’t hit

anyone, help our friends, don’t hurt the feelings of your friend, understand each other.

“A little thing makes a big difference."

PYP & MYP DEDICATED SPORTS REAPS IN REWARDS

W hat use is a sport with no dedication and

benefits? Well, nothing! A sport is something

you play with all dedication and love. It becomes a

part of your livelihood, a huge part of your life and

you expect so much out of it. You depend on the sport

and keep it as a priority. In turn; you get a healthy and

fit life to look forward too.

Coming from background where sports comes first;

my part as a sports person was necessary. Being so

inclined to this subject I have been a part of number

of events out of which I have won in most. Right from

childhood I have excelled in number of sports that

include; swimming, basketball, athletics and squash!

On the 17th of September 2017, I had a squash

tournament scheduled that was planned intra club.

Not a huge thing but just another tournament that I

could take part in and hopefully win. It was held at

The Acres club and was scheduled to begin at 8 in the

morning. I was put in the category of under15 open and had a little less than 25 opponents. The

tournament began as planned and ran through entirely, undoubtedly well. After a large amount of

matches were played, the event came to an end. As the ceremony of awards begun I was happy to be

given the award of winner for my category.

I am overwhelmed to admit how important sport is in my life. How easily it just changes my personality

from the most under confident to most demanding. From weak to a sudden urge of aggressiveness!

Sports don't build character, they reveal it.

- AADHYAA SHETTY Grade 8

Amaaya Rodrigues from Grade 4 and Aadhya Shetty from Grade 8 won the gold trophy at the Squash

Tournament Singles in Acres Club on Sunday, September 19th.

Congratulations from all of us at RBKIA! We are very proud of you!

MYP

I plan to work in the Business and Finance field when I grow older, and I thought researching and

collecting information regarding Banking would help me develop a better understanding of it.

During the summer holidays, I visited a branch of the ICICI bank branch in Mumbai to undertake a

summer project. I met with the Wealth Manager at the bank in the 1st week of June. My project was to

make PowerPoint presentations on the Banking industry. During my second visit the following week, I

was introduced to the junior employees (fresh graduates), and I presented the PPT I had made on

Banks in general to them. I talked about the different types of banks and its functions. My next

assignment was to talk about Banking Terminologies, which I presented to the team in the last week of

June. Finally, my last presentation was on the Monetary Policy, which I presented the week before

school reopened. This project helped me understand more about Financial Policies, Monetary Policies

and the aim of Banks. I thoroughly enjoyed researching and presenting my findings. It was a great

exposure to Banking and I’m sure it will help me to achieve my career goal.

MYP LIFE SKILL LEARNING IN SPORTS

I have been playing table tennis for the last 3 years and it has taught me a lot of things. And the main

thing I have learned from it is life skills some of them are dedication because without dedication you

can’t succeed in any sport, the art of winning a tough game and a lot of more things!

Since I was 5, I have been playing many other sports like football, swimming, basketball and of course

Table Tennis to sum up, I have developed a lot of skills by playing sports.

I had recently played a inter school tournament which was hosted by 11 even sports and this was a inter

Maharashtra tournament so players came from all over Maharashtra. I had secured third place in this

tournament among around 200 players and unfortunately couldn’t win it. I am looking forward to the

coming MSSA tournament.

Being at the University Fair

T oday, we went to Don Bosco School for a University fair organized by International Shiksha. We

were given an introduction about what this organization does and were told to look around and

interact with the University representatives. There were representatives from France, Germany, United

Kingdom, Dubai, Australia, Canada, Ireland and Singapore. There were two University representatives

from Australia and United Kingdom. All of us interacted with the representatives and discussed about

the courses they offer and the requirements to get into these Universities. We got information about

requirements such as SAT, ACT, portfolios and so on. Certain Universities require you to be proficient in

certain languages before applying. Every University specializes in particular courses but almost all of

them offer a variety of courses. We also inquired about the IB score cut off which was required by

different universities. The representatives also explained the application process and scholarship

programs. At the help-counter offered different education load plans. This Fair also helped us learn

about on how to build up our portfolio carefully .This program gave us a global exposure and also an

insight about Universities of our interests.
