    THE RECORDS - - Iowa (7-3, 4-2) has defeated Northern Iowa (31-23), Ball State (17-13), Pi sburgh (24-20), Purdue (24-10), Indiana(45-29), Northwestern (48-7) and Illinois (30-14). Iowa lost toIowa State (20-17), at Maryland (38-31) and at Minnesota (51-14).

    Wisconsin (8-2, 5-1) has defeated Western Illinois (37-3), Bowl-ing Green (68-17), South Florida (27-10), Illinois (38-28), Maryland(52-7), Rutgers (37-0), Purdue (36-14) and Nebraska (59-24).Wisconsin lost to LSU (28-24) and at Northwestern (20-14)

    HOW THE WEST WAS WON Wisconsin (5-1) enters Saturdays game with a one-game lead over Iowa (4-2), Minnesota

    (4-2), and Nebraska (4-2) in the Big Ten West. All four teams play each other in the naltwo weeks of the season. Iowa hosts Wisconsin and Nebraska, while Minnesota travels toNebraska and Wisconsin.

    @HawkeyeFootball QUICK STRIKES Iowa has outscored its opponents, 96-45, in the rst quarter. Iowa scored a touchdown on its opening drive in three straight games (Maryland, North

    western, Minnesota). The Hawkeyes looked to extend the streak to four against Illinois,but their 74-yard drive stalled at the 1-yard line.

    the Heartland Trophy in 2004.

    The trophy was designed and cra ed by ar st and former Iowa football player FrankStrub. The trophy, which is a bull mounted on a walnut base (na ve to both Wisconsinand Iowa), has the scores of all previous games between the two schools inscribed on it.The Heartland Trophy became the 16th Big Ten football traveling trophy.

    The Iowa-Wisconsin series has been the closest and most compe ve of all Big Tenseries, with Wisconsin holding a slim edge, 43-42-2.

    IOWA PROGRAM NOTES Iowa has 104 wins since 2002. Only 23 programs across the

    country have 100 or more wins since the start of the 2002season.

    Including 2014, the Hawkeyes have earned bowl eligibility in 13of the last 14 seasons.

    Iowa earned Big Ten Conference championships in 2002 and2004 and placed second in 2009. Iowa (8-0, 2002) is one ofthree Big Ten teams to post a perfect mark in conference playsince 1998 (BCS era).

    Iowa has ranked in the top 10 in the nal Associated Press andCNN/USA Today coaches polls in four of the past 11 seasons,including a ranking of seventh in both polls at the conclusion ofthe 2009 season. Iowa ranked eighth in 2002, 2003 and 2004and the Hawkeyes were also 20th in 2008.

    Iowa established a school record with 11 wins in 2002 (11-2)and matched that record in 2009. In 2009, Iowa started 9-0 andwon 10 regular season games for just the fourth me in schoolhistory.

    Iowa won 10 or more games in three consecu ve years (2002-04) for the rst me in school history.

    Kirk Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year threemes (2002, 2004 & 2009) and he was named Na onal Coach

    of the Year in 2002. Ferentz joins Michigans Bo Schembechler(four), Iowas Hayden Fry (three) and Penn States Joe Paterno(three) as the only coaches to be honored in more than twoseasons.

    Iowa has had na onal award winners in: Robert Gallery (2003Outland, Top Lineman); Brad Banks (2002 Davey OBrien, TopQuarterback; 2002 Associated Press Na onal Player of the Year);Dallas Clark (2002 Mackey, Top Tight End); Nate Kaeding (2002Groza, Top Kicker); Shonn Greene (2008 Doak Walker, Top Run -ning Back).
