The 100 Day Goal is the simplest way to get out of a rut, fulfil your good intentions, get started on something you’ve always wanted to do, finish something you’ve always wanted done, ramp up your business, write your novel, in fact 100 Day Goalers have:

WHAT IS THE 100 DAY GOAL?

The 100 Day Goal is a simple three step method: 1. Set a goal for 100 Days 2. Write a list of Microactions 3. Do at least one Microaction a day

Each of these steps is explained in detail in this Guide.

• Published a book

• Written a novel (or three!)

• Sold more handmade dresses in 100 days than in the whole of the previous year

• Lost unwanted kilos

• Found a new job

• Left a job and started a business

• Opened an Art Gallery

• Launched a website (finally!)

• Filled their Yoga classes

• Got promoted

• Renovated a guest house in France

• Earned enough to pay for their dream wedding

• Left an abusive relationship

• Earned enough to buy a new car

• Walked 1500 km

• Raised lots of money for charity

• Opened a shop

• Developed a new product......

And sooooooo much more!

A SINGLE TINY STEP YOU ACTUALLY TAKE IS BETTER THAN ANY BIG PLAN LEFT UNDONE

HOW THE 100 DAY GOAL

WORKS

A. 100 DAYS IS IMPORTANT! It’s no accident that we set a goal for 100 days. It’s actually the very best time period to work on a goal.

Goals of longer than 100 Days are not good because there is no urgency to get going! When we set a goal for a year, we don’t really need to start today because there’s plenty more time. Yes?!

Goals of less than 100 Days have urgency, but they are not long enough to accomplish something BIG. Shorter than 100 days and there’s just not enough time to get results from your efforts. Especially if you are doing a tough goal like writing a book, selling more in your business, losing weight, saving money, etc, etc.

1. SET A GOAL FOR 100 DAYS

4. Super - specificYou need to know what finished looks like! Precisely! So if your goal is to revamp your website: what does that look like exactly?! If your goal is to get healthier, what does that look like? If your goal is to sell more, how much more? Number goals (like a sales goal if you’re doing this for your business) work really well because then you absolutely know whether you’ve achieved it or not! If you can’t come up with a number goal, write down in detail what ‘finished’ looks like so you’ll know it when you get there!

5. Measurable as you go:There’s nothing like seeing progress to keep you going, so pick a goal that you can measure (each day if possible) and you’ll feel much more inclined to persevere!

6. An outcome not an input:An outcome is a result, whereas an input is the thing you do to get the result. For example sales are an outcome (a result of your work), making cold calls (yuk!) are an input: they are the thing you do to get the outcome. Weight loss is an output, walking 10,000 steps a day is an input. It’s better to have a goal that is an output (the change that you want in yourself or your life or your business) than an input because not all inputs work (sadly!) You might need to change the inputs to get the result you really want.

7. Useful! If you’re doing a businessy goal, don’t get sucked into ‘vanity’ metrics (eg. the number of Insta followers you have) unless you can see how that is going to turn into something worthwhile, like sales.

YOUR GOAL IS A ‘GOOD GOAL’ IF IT’S:1. Just one thing:Even though you might be tempted to pick two or three goals, resist! Picking a single goal always works better than multiple goals because it’s really, really hard to focus on more than one thing at a time!

2. Something YOU really want:Yes YOU! Your goal needs to be something YOU really want to achieve, not something you think you should aim for, or something somebody else thinks you should do. This is about YOU. Pick something you really totally absolutely 100% want to accomplish.

3. DoableBig stretch goals are great but let’s get real here. You’re busy, you have a life to run. What’s really doable?! Reaching a small goal will motivate you much more than missing a big goal. And certainly DON’T make it so big it terrifies you!

We’ve had over 250,000 people do the 100 Day Goal with us and we’ve learned that picking the right goal is super-important. It’s much easier to be successful if you pick the right type of goal.

B. HOW TO SET A GOOD GOAL

C. NOW DECIDE HOWBIG TO MAKE YOUR GOAL! You want to make your goal a stretch but not ridiculously impossible.

Here are some things to think about:

• If you spend just 15 minutes a day working on your 100 Day Goal, that’s 25 whole hours. What could you achieve in 25 solid hours of working on your goal. A lot!

• If you spend just 30 minutes a day working on your 100 Day Goal, that’s 50 whole hours. What could you achieve in 50 solid hours of working on your goal. Masses!

• How much are you already doing? The 100 Day Goal is about achieving MORE, so if you’re already selling, say, 25 items in 100 days how many MORE can you sell?

• How big does your goal need to be to motivate you to work on it? Think of three different sized goals and imagine achieving each one. Pick the goal that excites you and feels just slightly out of reach.

• If your goal is a business goal, think about how much you need to sell to make the money you need to earn from your business.

Step 1 of the 100 Day Goal Method was to decide on your goal. Now you’ve done that it’s time for step 2: Make your Microaction List.

MICROACTIONS:Microactions are small tasks you do that help you reach your goal. Your Microaction List is a list of lots and lots of those small tasks. There are two very special reasons behind making a Microaction list, but first, let’s look a bit more closely at what a Microaction is.

THE TWO IMPORTANT BITSIt’s Micro!Micro means the task is very small. So it’s a task you can do in less than 15 minutes. Or 30 Minutes max. When you’re doing your Microaction List if you have tasks that are bigger than 30 minutes chunk them down into two smaller tasks.

It’s Action!Action means that the task takes you directly towards your goal. Tasks that are not Action are Motion. In business and in life we do lots of Motion, it’s all the ‘other’ stuff we do. We don’t want to put any motion on our Microaction List. It’s all ACTION.

EXAMPLES OF MOTION AND ACTION • If your goal is to sell 100 handmade dresses, making the

dresses is motion, going to the market to sell them is ACTION

• If your goal is to sell 100 handmade dresses, posting lifestyle images on Instagram is motion, posting a picture of your dress with a Call to Action (“buy me”) is ACTION

• If your goal is weight loss, reading books on nutrition is motion, going for a brisk walk is ACTION

• If your goal is to write a book, research is motion, doing the writing is ACTION.

There’s nothing wrong with motion, but we do a lot of it anyway. ACTION is the stuff that gets us to our Goal so that’s what we’re focusing on. Every day you’ll do a few Microactions and the whole of the rest of the day you can spend on motion!

MAKING YOUR MICROACTION LIST:Making your Microaction List is a super-important step in your 100 Day Goal. You’re going to make a list of at least 150 Microactions! That sounds like a lot, but here’s why we do it.

1. Making a big list switches on your subconscious brain and with it your imagination and creativity

If I asked you to write a list of things you could do with an empty jam jar you might come up with, say, 20 and they’d all be pretty normal ideas. But if I asked you to write a list of 200 uses for an empty jam jar you’d come up with plenty of creative and clever ones. Try it!

SUCCESS IS THESUM OF SMALL EFFORTS

R E PEATEDDAY IN AND DAY OUT

THE BEST WAYTO GET SOMETHING DONE IS TOB E G I N

2. Making a big list gives you plenty of tasks to choose fromThe magic of the 100 Day Goal is found in doing at least one small Microaction every day. Partly because ‘Dripping water wears away a stone’, but also because doing a Microaction every day turns the 100 Day Goal into a habit, and when something’s a habit it becomes a breeze to do!

Doing one small action a day sounds easy, but it’s amazing how tricky we actually find it! Often we get stuck on what actions we should do (especially when we’re so short on time that it’s hard to think clearly on what’s the best next step to take). So having a BIG list of Microactions to choose from makes picking something to do, easy!

2. PATHS, PROJECTS, QUESTION METHODIf you find you need more direction with your Microactions try this: the Paths, Projects, Questions Method.

PATHSThe first step is to work out the Big Paths you’ll take to reach your 100 Day Goal. You’re aiming to have between two and five paths.

For exampleIf your goal is to sell 50 handmade dresses your Paths could be:

• Sell online

• Sell offline

• Sell more to existing customers

If your goal is weight loss your Paths could be:

• Exercise more

• Eat better

Write your Paths on the ‘Paths’ printable that comes with this Guide.

1. QUICK START METHOD 1. Get a pad of paper (or use the printable which comes

with this Guide).

2. Write your goal at the top.

3. Write the numbers 1-150 down the right hand side.

4. Jot down as many different Micro-actions to reach your goal as you can think of.

5. Don’t edit them! Write down anything! Be wild! Be creative!

6. Keep going until you have 150.

7. Ta-da! You’ve got a Master Action List!

Quick Tip!You don’t need to make your list in one attempt! Keep your pad of paper or our printable handy (on the kitchen bench maybe) and add to it over a couple of days. T H E D I F F E R E N C E

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MICROACTION LIST:You can do the Quick Start Method or the Paths, Projects, Questions Method. Your choice!

PROJECTSThe next step is to think about the Projects you could do along each Path. You can go wild with this. You don’t HAVE to do any of these Projects. Just think of as many as possible. Be creative. Don’t worry about HOW you will do these. Just imagine you can do ANYTHING. Magic will happen.

For exampleIf you goal is to sell 50 girls handmade dresses and your Path is to sell offline. A few of your Projects could be:

• Sell at markets

• Wholesale to local shops

• Sell at fundraiser for local childcare centres

• Host parties to showcase dresses

• Form a group of local Mums to be affiliates and showcase the dresses on their daughters.

If you goal is weight loss and your Path is better food. A few of your Projects could be:

• Meal Planning

• Prepping meals for the week on a Sunday

• Finding alternatives for breakfast.

Write your Projects for each Path on the ‘Projects’ printable that comes with this Guide.

QUESTIONS Look at your Project list. Decide which projects you’ll do during this 100 Day Goal and chunk each project down to a series of questions. This will help you find your Microactions for each project.

For exampleIf your goal is to sell 50 girls handmade dresses and your Path is to sell offline and your Project is to sell at markets, your questions could include:

• Which markets are best?

• How many markets should I do?

• What prep do I need to do for a market?

• How much will the market cost?

• How much do I need to sell to make it worthwhile?

• How do I set my stall up?

• How do I get set up to take payments?

If you goal is weight loss and your Path is better food and your Project is Meal Planning your questions could include:

• What are the best Meal Planning websites?

• What’s my weekly budget?

• When will I do my Meal Planning

• What’s going to help me stick to my Meal Planning?

• What’s going to push me off the Meal Planning wagon?

Write your questions for each Path on the ‘Questions’ printable that comes with this Guide.

3. DO AT LEAST ONE MICROACTION

A DAY

NOW MAKE YOUR MICROACTION LISTNow that you’ve got your Paths, Projects and Questions you can make your Master Microaction List - a list of 150 Microactions that you can do to reach your 100 Day Goal.

• Simply turn each question into a series of Microactions (little tasks)

• Review the list of Microactions for each Project to see if anything is missing.

• Add the missing ones to your Master Microaction List

• Tada! You have your list.

You might want to make three big lists (one for each path) or multiple lists (one for each project). Keep them stapled together though so you have them close to hand each day when you pick your Micoactions to do! You can use our ‘Master Microaction List’ printable that comes with this Guide.

If you prefer a digital Microaction list, Trello is fabulous for this (you can set up a BOARD for each Path and a list for each project) or you could keep as documents in Google Docs.

Step 1 of the 100 Day Goal Method was to decide on your goal and Step 2 was to make your Microaction List. Now you’ve done that it’s just on to Step 3: do at least one Microaction every day.

Now while this sounds very easy, I know in practise some of us find it hard to do a Microaction every day. Here are eleven tips to help you. There are more in our 100 Day Goal BOOST and in the 100 Day Goal emails too!

1.MAKE YOUR MICROACTIONS VERY LITTLEWhen Microactions are little we find them easy to do so we complete lots of them.

And because each completed item gives us a great sense of accomplishment (often bigger than the actual task!) that, in turn, gives us the energy to do more! Really! It snowballs! Lots of little tasks are always more energizing than a few big ones!

Page 11: NOTES YOUR GUIDE TO THE€¦ · Goals of less than 100 Days have urgency, but they are not long enough to accomplish something BIG. Shorter than 100 days and there’s just not enough

2. COMPILE A WEEKLY MICROACTION LISTAt the start of each week (maybe on a Sunday night?!) look through your Master Microaction list and pick the Microactions that you are going to do the week ahead.

This is a such a simple step but it saves you the time and brainache of having to decide what to do once the week starts. I actually do my list on a Friday afternoon and it’s quite a nice way to finish the week!

You might want to use our Weekly Microaction List printable for this (it comes with this Guide!)

3. REVAMP YOUR DAILY TO-DO LISTDeciding which Microactions you are going to do tomorrow, tonight is totally the BEST way to make sure you take action every day!

Just pick one or two things off your Weekly Microaction List and pop them on your ToDo list for tomorrow. Turning your Micro-actions into items on your ToDo list helps them get done! Usually our ToDo lists are full or ‘urgent’ things rather than the ‘important’ things (like 100 Day goal actions!)

Here’s a way of telling the difference between Urgent and Important tasks in a business:

• If a task has to be done NOW (or today), it’s urgent.

• If a task directly helps you make money or improve your business, it’s important.

So building your new website will directly improve your business so it’s ‘important’ but it probably doesn’t need to be done right NOW so it’s not urgent.

Often our ToDo lists are SO full of urgent things that we never get round to the important stuff. Your 100 Day Goal is important so pop one or two Microactions for it on your ToDo list to turn them into urgent. That way you’ll get them done!

Quick Tip!Write your 100 Day Goal at the top of your Daily ToDo list. It will keep you focused on what’s important!

You might want to use the printable 100 Day Goal Daily ToDo List (it comes with this Guide!)

8. KEEP A 100 DAY GOAL JOURNALThis is MAGIC! Really it is! You can read about how the magic works on our website (Thebusinessbakery.com.au)

We have a GORGEOUS hard copy 100 Day Goal Journal which you can buy. (Get it at Thebusinessbakery.com.au/shop. We deliver worldwide).

Or you can make your own:Buy a journal containing 100 pages and, taking a page for each day, write in it:

• The Micro-actions you took towards your goal that day

• The progress you made that day (so if your goal is to sell 200 dresses, how many dresses did you sell that day?)

• The progress you’ve made to date towards your goal (so if your goal is to sell 200 dresses, how many dresses have you sold to date)

Try to remember to do write your journal EVERY day! To help you we’ll email you a daily reminder (but please feel free to opt out of if you don’t want it!)

4. DO YOUR MICROACTION FIRSTAnother good way to make sure you get the ‘important’ things done is to do them first thing in the morning! So while this isn’t always easy, try to get your goal ‘Microaction’ as the first thing you do in the day. That way you won’t run out of time to do it!

5. DAILY EMAIL REMINDERSWe’ll send you a daily email to remind you to take action on your 100 Day Goal and to write your journal! You’re very welcome to opt out of the email but most people find the ‘nagging’ works!

6. JOIN OUR FACEBOOK GROUPDetails are in the email that came with this Guide. Do join us - the community is FABULOUS at motivating the demotivated!

7. DON’T BREAK THE CHAINThis is a trick that Jerry Seinfeld used to make himself write each day. He’d hang a big year-at-a-glance calendar on his wall and would draw a big red ‘X’ on it every day that he wrote new material. Eventually, he began to create a chain of red Xs which he then never wanted to break!

You can do the same:Buy a calendar and draw a red ‘X’ for every day that you do a Microaction!

There’s a ‘Don’t Break The Chain’ in our hard copy Journal TOO!

MORE HELPFor more help with doing your Microactions daily, take a look at our 100 Day Goal BOOST. This is a daily video series which will help you find the time to work on your 100 Day Goal and hold your hand when life gets in the way!

You can find the 100 Day Goal BOOST and Journal in our shop Thebusinessbakery.com.au/shop

9. VISUALISE YOUR 100 DAY GOALThis is a very good and FUN thing to do. Every day take a few minutes to visualise achieving your goal. You don’t need any fancy techniques, just simply close your eyes and imagine how you will feel when you reach your goal!

Visualising helps keep us excited about our goals, and in a quantum physics-y kinda way helps us achieve it. Sounds woo woo but is totally TRUE!

10. USE A GOAL TRACKERThese are very motivating!

Here’s the one from our 100 Day Goal Journal:

Just colour in a segment each time you make a measurable step towards your goal (so if your goal is selling dresses, colour in a segment each time you sell a dress). You’ll love seeing your progress!

11. SHARING GOALSSharing goals helps (some people). Some of us work harder to achieve our goals if we tell people about them. It makes us feel accountable…. we don’t want to lose face. But if you are the private type feel free to keep your goals to yourself. There’s plenty of evidence to say that keeping your goals quiet WORKS too!
