Weekend Worship Theme: “Get Out, Satan!” Rev. Vieregge uses the Gospel from Matthew 16:21-28 as the text for his message today. It’s impossible for us to share the Gospel on our own. We often set our minds on the things of this world. But the Holy Spirit works in us and through us to set our minds on the eternal things of God, and set us on the path to follow Jesus and share His message of forgiveness and eternal life with joy and confidence. Child Care Celebration Service Next Saturday Join us Saturday, September 9 at our 6:00pm worship service as we celebrate our Child Care ministry. We thank God for the leadership, the volunteers, parents, and especially, for the children, from 6-week- old infants to 6-year-old students, whom God has entrusted to our care. Rev. Michael Salemink Teaches Bible Study Next Sunday Next weekend, Rev. Michael Salemink, Executive Director of Lutherans for Life International, will speak before each service, and teach our Sunday 9:45am Main Bible study in the sanctuary. He will be in the atrium after each service to answer questions. Pastor Mike has a connection to Our Shepherd - he is the brother-in-law of Lisa and Todd Sager. SUPER SUCCESSFUL AUGUST

BLOOD DRIVE!

The RED CROSS is grateful for the generosity of all persons who were available to donate at the blood drive on August 7th. The results were 54 units-12 over the goal!! Thank you!! Our next drive is October 2nd and is online for registration. The need is always there, but the recent flooding disaster in Houston makes your donation even more crucial. Mark the calendar for Monday October 2nd-from 1:00-7:00pm- and register at redcrossblood.org or call Beth at 248-828-7802. It will be in the lower level. If the 2nd is not a good date for you and you are eligible to give sooner, please do so at another location. Stay hydrated, have some iron intake, and avoid tea consumption a few days before giving your blood.

2017-18 School Year UNDERWAY!

Our theme verse is from Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same YESTERDAY and TODAY and FOREVER." August was a very busy month with faculty meetings, retreats and team building events. Mrs. Kelso hosted a play date for all incoming Kindergarten students on August 23rd. New Parent Orientation was held in the library on August 24th. Our annual Back to School BBQ was held after Opening

Worship last Sunday and over 330 people attended! All Glory to God!

On September 23rd, we will assemble “Action Packs” to be sent to Christians in who are suffering for their faith in Christ. Here’s how you can help:

Donate new or “gently used” items to go into the Action Packs. Clothing for adults and children: lightweight (windbreaker) jack-ets, sweaters, gloves, knit hats, and t-shirts (plain, no print). Blan-kets, bed sheets, towels, bar soap, and nerf balls. Please provide all items by September 9th. All donated items are tax deductible.

Serve as a “bargain shopper” to find these items at reduced prices. You will be reimbursed for the cost of the items.

Donate funds. Please make out checks to Our Shepherd and write “VOM Action Packs” on the memo line. Designate cash gifts to “VOM Action Packs.” All donations are tax deductible.

Provide a greeting card. Christians in countries where persecu-tion occurs love to receive greeting cards from the U.S. Use draw-ings (heart, cross, empty tomb, drawings of people) rather than writing. These will not be translated.

Please drop off items, in the drop-box located to the left of the bookstore by September 9th. Thank you for helping bring the love and support of Christ to those who need it so badly!
