University of Liverpool The title and privileges of emeritus professor have been con- ferred on Prof. Cecil Gray, who retired as professor of anaes- thesia and dean of the Faculty of Medicine on Dec. 31. Clinical Research Centre The Medical Research Council have appointed Prof. C. C. Booth to succeed Sir Graham Bull as director of the Clinical Research Centre at Northwick Park, Harrow. After serving in the Royal Navy during the 1939—45 war, Professor Booth undertook his medical training at the University of St. Andrews, graduating M.B. in 1951 and M.D. in 1958; he became F.R.C.P. in 1964 and F.R.C.P.E. in 1969. Apart from junior hospital appointments in Dundee and Cambridge, the whole of his career has been spent at the Hammersmith Hospital, where he is now consultant physician, and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, where, after appointments as medical registrar and tutor, lecturer, and senior lec- turer in medicine, he has been professor of medicine since 1966. His research interests are in gastroenterology, and he was director of the M.R.C. Malabsorption Research Group from 1967 to 1972. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Research Councils. Milbank Memorial Fund Dr Robert H. Ebert, dean of the Harvard Medical School, has been appointed president. Intensive Care The second world congress on intensive care will take place in Paris on Sept. 19-23. Details may be had from Dr Ray- mond Nedey, Hopital Foch, 92151 Suresnes, France. The Neurochemical Group of the Biochemical Society is organising a workshop on neuromuscular disorders, to be held at the University of Bath on March 29-31. Details may be had from Dr G. G.
