I. General information

Industry extension in the standard system (activated using the Switch Framework):

As of Release SAP ERP 2005, the Insurance software is no longer delivered separatelyfrom the standard system but is part of SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC) and is

called SAP ECC Industry Extension Insurance. This means that the Insurance software is

on your system as soon as you install SAP ECC. To use Insurance, you must activate it first

This has the following consequences for the installation process, the standard system

upgrade, maintenance, deactivating the software, and compatibility:

Activation of the industry extension in the Switch Framework:Instead of installing the add-on with a separate CD or as part of a transport, the functions of the SAP ECC Industry Extension Insurance are provided by activating a switch as part of

the new Switch Framework technology.

Upgrading of the SAP ERP standard system with an industry extension:

When you upgrade the standard system, you no longer require an additional CD for the

add-on, since the industry extension is included in the standard system upgrade. As a result,

there is no longer a delay between the availability of the SAP ERP standard system upgradeand the industry extension. During the upgrade, the switch for the industry extension is set

automatically if Insurance was installed as an add-on on the source release.

Maintenance of the industry extensions:Insurance is dependent on the SAP_APPL software component. To import SAP_APPL

Support Packages, you therefore require the corresponding Support Packages of the

INSURANCE component. These are available at the same time as the SAP_APPL SupportPackages. You can import Support Packages of components on which Insurance is not

dependent without importing Insurance Support Packages.

The software cannot be deactivated:

An industry extension cannot be deactivated, even in the Switch Framework. Once the

activation switch has been set, it cannot be undone.

Compatibility:

You can only have one active industry extension in a system. Different industry extensions

cannot be combined with one another in ERP 2005.In addition to this, activating an industry extension can lead to release restrictions for add-

ons. If you have activated an industry extension, you may no longer be able to install

certain add-ons. If you have already installed an add-on, you may no longer be able to

activate any further industry extensions. For more information, consult the release strategynotes of the relevant add-ons.

In general, SAP Insurance is not released in combination with other industry

extensions or add-ons.

If you activate an industry extension, this can lead to release restrictions for add-ons.

If you have activated an industry extension, you may no longer be able to install certainadd-ons. If you have already installed an add-on, you may no longer be able to activate any

further industry extensions. For more information, consult the release strategy notes of therelevant add-ons.

VI. Maintenance

Industry extension corrections

Insurance is dependent on the SAP_APPL software component. To importSAP_APPL Support Packages, you therefore require the corresponding Support Packages

of the INSURANCE component. These are available at the same time as the SAP_APPL

Support Packages. You can import Support Packages of components on which Insurance is

not dependent without importing Insurance Support Packages.
