Can Your Business Do Better? Yes!

Let’s look at the benefits to your business that will come from working with TeachU

Let’s Agree

I believe your business can do better. Do you?

There is always room for improvement, thus opportunity for “better”. Right?

But let’s not confuse room for improvement with the expression “continuous improvement”.

Continuous Improvement

I almost hate the expression. It’s overused.

Continuous improvement has been sloganized and become part of many mission statements despite the fact that there is no continuous improvement.

We suffer from continuous improvement fatigue.

Do We Want Continuous Improvement?

No. Continuous improvement can lead to a groove that becomes hard to escape. While we are driven to improve our processes and quality of our widget, our competition develops a new product making our continuously improved widget obsolete.

In Fact

Fact is, some companies struggle with the program to improve as much the improvements they are supposed to be making.

In the meantime, the market changes and our “continuous improvements” are wasted.

The competition releases a product that redefines the market. Continuous improvement could put your business behind the curve.

Set Targets

Improvements should be carefully considered. We should seek to identify opportunities for “better”.

That may mean improving our processes to streamline and improve margin.

It may mean devoting resources to the development of a better or entirely new widget. It may mean getting out of the widget business.

Hit Targets

After we identify targets, we develop the plan to hit those targets.

Start with targets that give an immediate return. This builds morale and support for betterment.

And we can adapt the betterment initiative to the culture of the business instead of…

Culture

…instead of making everyone conform to the program.

Wait!

This doesn’t mean there will not be adjustments to the culture if changes are needed.

But unlike other improvement initiatives, 3Es adapts to your culture.

When to “Fix” Culture

If a business is profitable and morale is good, why mess with the culture? If people express a general complaint, let’s fix it without changing the entire culture.

Communication problems is an example of something that can be fixed without ripping apart the entire culture of a business.

(Poor communication is a very commonly expressed work frustration.)

When to “Fix” Culture

If there are “people problems” we must be careful to understand if the issue is persons specific or due to the culture. Fix the problem.

Small changes don’t disrupt the organization and lead to big results!

Not Another Acronym for Dud

3Es is unlike LEAN, 6-Sigma or any other of the alphabet soup improvement programs.

3Es costs far less to implement and is actually fun— unlike, as a good client calls “that damn McKinsey crap” [sic].

Search for failure rate of LEAN programs and you’ll see that statistics show that LEAN (and its variants) FAIL 80-95% of the time!

3Es Works

3Es works every time.

That’s a big claim.

3Es works every time because we start with reasonable objectives that we know can be met. This improves “buy-in”, participation and cooperation. As the results roll in, the enthusiasm builds.

And it’s FUN.

Fun!

Yes, it’s fun!

It’s fun to be on a winning team. It’s fun to set goals and achieve them.

With 3Es, we know that to have a winning season you have to win a lot of games. We don’t work for gains on a quarter to quarter basis. We win every day. Those daily wins make for a terrific quarter.
