Road safety

I have had a number of concerns expressed to me by

parents about the non-use of our school crossing. This

crossing is staffed for 45 minutes before and after school

every school day. Despite the crossing being there, a

significant number of families cross further down the

street. As well as the danger this poses, it does not model

good road safety behaviour for our students. We ask that

all our families who cross the road in front of our school

use the crossing to do so.

Reaching reading milestones

We continue to be delighted with the number of students

achieving our 100 and 200 Nights of Reading goals. To

date, 259 students have reached 100 nights (that’s 59% of

our students!) and 40 have reached 200 nights in the first

week that that has been possible. Their teachers, Mrs and

Guy and I are almost as excited as they are when they

show us their reading logs! Well done everyone!

Footy Colours Day (Friday 7th September)

As we enter the AFL finals season, students might like to

wear the colours of their favourite footy, basketball,

soccer, netball…..team. It is a free event and not a free

clothes day. Gary Jones

From Our Principal….

Dear families,

Book Week

Superheroes were everywhere on August 22nd as our

students and staff dressed up to celebrate Book Week. If

you were one of the many members of our audience at

our special Book Week assembly, I am sure that you

enjoyed it as much as I did. Our Library Leaders did a

fabulous job in hosting the assembly, and I congratulate

them on their leadership. Our students looked magnificent

in their costumes and I thank our families for helping them

– and us – to celebrate our love of books in this way. Our

staff also looked magnificent in their various Superhero

guises, and I thank them too for this. The performance by

our Vowel Bats will stay in our memories for a very long

time! What a great day!

School uniform

You will recall that, in our last newsletter, I wrote about

our wonderful school uniform and the important reasons

why we have it at our school. In general, we have seen

more students wearing our uniform these two weeks and

we thank you for your help with this.

An aspect of our uniform we have noticed that still seems

to be a problem for some of our students is our sport

uniform. Our Kindergarten students wear their sports

uniform every day. Our students in Prep – Grade 6 wear

their sports uniform on the days that their class has their

P.E. lesson and, for students in Grades 5 and 6, on Fridays

to support their participation in Grade 5/6 sport. Our

sport uniform is navy-blue tracksuit pants or navy-blue

shorts, white polo shirt and either our green windcheater

or rugby top. We have noticed a number of students

wearing black tracksuit pants or shorts instead of navy

blue. Navy blue tracksuit pants and shorts are available

from several stores in town in a range of sizes to suit our

students and with a range of prices. To support our

students to wear their sports uniform, we will supply navy

blue tracksuits pants or shorts for those students who

come to school not wearing these, to wear for the day.

Excursion

3-4 Hill and 3-4 Summers Tuesday 25th September 3-4 Barker and 3-4 Faulkner Thursday 27th September

Our classes have been studying a science unit which deals

with how liquids and solids change their form and shape.

We will be attending an excursion to Breadalbane and

Invermay to see numerous processes that promote change.

We will be visiting Tasmanian Glassblowers and the Tin

Shed Pottery studio. Because we will be leaving school at

9:10am and returning at 2:10pm all children will need a

packed lunch and large drink. Grades 3-4 Barker and 3-4

Faulkner will be unable to order recess or lunch

from the canteen. Pupils have been asked to wear their

PE uniform and bring a coat. If any parents are available to

assist students during this excursion could they please

ensure they have a current WWVP card and contact Roslyn

Faulkner, Bec Barker, Claire Hill or Amanda Summers.

Hagley Farm Excursion

1/2 Butler and 1/2 Youdale Wednesday 26th September 1/2 Paulsen and 1/2 McCoy Friday 28th September

As part of our History unit on the Past and Present grade

1/2 classes will be visiting Hagley Farm School. We will leave

school at 9:15am and return by the end of the school day.

Each class requires parent assistance; however, it is

important that you have a Working with Vulnerable People

card which needs to be sighted by the teacher of your child.

If we are inundated with offers of assistance we may require

parents to drive their own cars to the venue. Children will

need to bring their morning tea, lunch and a drink on the

day. Grades 1-2P and 1-2M will be unable to order

recess or lunch from the canteen. Sports uniform, a

jacket and appropriate footwear are required. Gumboots

will not be needed. Brooke McCoy, Leonie Youdale, Laine

Shaping Your Child’s Genius

The genius in children often becomes hidden by a fear of

making mistakes, anxieties, perfectionism or low

motivation. Many bright children under-perform and do

poorly at school. Others do well at school but never ignite

once they leave. This seminar is designed to help your

child’s most important teacher - YOU - develop the skills

and ingredients in your child.

Topics covered will conclude:

Building concentration and memory power

Creative problem solving and ingenuity

Planning and anticipation skills

Sequencing and listening skills

Increasing motivation and pleasure in learning

Building self-esteem and dealing with set backs

Developing a mindset for success
