Swimming and Water Safety program

Recently, we completed a very successful Swimming and

Water Safety program for our students in grades 3, 4 and

5. This important program could not occur without a

great deal of effort, organisation and commitment on the

part of many people. Many thanks to Brooke Ralston,

parent and swim teacher who assumed the responsibility

of our program. Thanks also to Mr Leighton and the other

highly skilled swimming teachers who supported our

students in their skill development, to parents who did the

many things needed to have their children equipped each

day for successful participation in the program, to Mr

Jones who managed the timetable changes needed so

skilfully and to teachers who managed the changes to

classroom programs and arrangements with great skill and

patience.

Industrial action

As noted in our last newsletter, the Australian Education

Union (AEU) has directed its members not to include

comments on Term 4 student reports. In line with DoE

reporting requirements, we provided a full report mid-

year with detailed information about student progress and

areas for future focus. The summary report at the end of

the year is designed to provide brief information about

student end-of-year results. This year, this will be shown

with ratings for English, Maths, Science, History and

Health and Physical Education, as well as ratings for

Approach to Learning and Behaviour, with no written

comments. Kindergarten students will receive a collation

of their learning through a Celebration of Learning folder.

The AEU has called a further Stop Work Meeting in the

north of the state for the morning of Tuesday November

From Our Principal….

Class structure for 2019

Next year our classes will again be a combination of

straight and composite classes, with, as happens each year,

the number of students at each year level determining the

class structure that we have.

Congratulations to Finlay P

Earlier this week I had the

pleasure of attending the

NAPLAN presentation ceremony

which recognised great student

achievement in the national

testing program. Well done to

Finlay, who achieved in the top

1% in Tasmania for his results and

top of school in this year’s

NAPLAN testing program.

A great walkathon

Last Wednesday, in highly changeable spring weather (a

mix sunshine, rain and hail) our students and staff walked

… and walked … and walked! I am proud of our students

who were fine ambassadors of our school as they walked

around our neighbourhood and who persisted beyond

tiredness to complete the challenge of walking for the

duration of the walkathon. Thank you to families and

friends who supported our students in this great event.

Staffing

We welcome Sam Maddern - teaching PE on Fridays. Also

lovely to have Annette Cordell back working with us on

Wednesdays, as we cover Mrs Guy’s leave.
