• ~9,000 cancer deaths in the under 75s per year across the three cancer networks (based on 2007)

• This has reduced in absolute numbers by 13.7% between 1996 and 2007

• However, the under 75s population has also reduced between 1996 and 2006 (-0.36 YCN, -0.88 HYC, -1.27 NECN)

• Mortality rates for prostate – often erratic and difficult to interpret.

• Network performed well across the board with the network and all PCTs having either achieved the target to date or having a rate not significantly different from the target.

• All 3 cancer networks and both SHAs doing well overall towards the 2010 target.

• Position is more variable when looking at gender and specific cancer sites.

• Recent changes in trends pose questions in relation to value of projections, local target setting and possible local actions required.
