Dear Readers,

Greetings of Mahashivratri !!

The most anticipated event of the Indian financial calendar is over. What political and economic message has the Budget sent out? The budget by the current government looks like a budget guided by a mission to strengthen agriculture, rural development, health, education, employment, MSME, and infrastructure sectors. As Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley speaks on refining the economic growth of our country; he certainly has won hearts of senior citizens and the farmers. Aam aadmi can now breathe a sigh of relief as the FM manages to bring a balanced budget without significantly modifying provisions applicable to the salaried class. However, the government has surprised investors by opening doors for taxation on long term capital gain on equity.

It’s going to be a tough balancing act amid calls for supporting growth, addressing the issue of farm distress, which can have political consequences in an election year, and the need for maintaining fiscal discipline. Most analysts expect the government to breach the fiscal deficit target of 3.2% of gross domestic product (GDP) in the current year. However, they would keenly watch how the government intends to manage its finances in the next financial year. The budget will also be expected to clear the air regarding the actual revenue position after the implementation of the goods and services tax, as there is still a fair bit of confusion in the market place. In terms of overall fiscal management, the government has done well so far in its tenure and is expected to not lose sight of the importance of continued fiscal discipline. It will be a big achievement for the Narendra Modi government if it is able to attain the medium-term target of restricting the fiscal deficit to 3% of GDP in the next financial year. The Union Budget is construed as an annual tug-of-war between populism and fiscal prudence; arguably it is the latter that prevailed in the past four budgets tabled by the NDA. However,

populism seems to have gained an upper hand in Arun Jaitley’s latest effort. Despite exceptional buoyancy in direct tax revenues (18.7% growth in FY18) and record disinvestment proceeds (1 lakh crore), shortfalls in GST mop-ups and dividend receipts have forced the Finance Minister to ease off on fiscal consolidation as mandated by the FRBM Act. The Budget has reported a fiscal deficit of 3.5% (of GDP) for FY18 and pegged it at a high 3.3% for next year. The Economic Survey prepared the ground for a deviation, yet the actual numbers surprised the markets. Armed with a war chest of 24.4 lakh crore in budgeted receipts for FY19, Mr. Jaitley has homed in unerringly on the root causes of distress — unremunerative farm incomes, unemployment, lack of social security nets and the squeeze on the middle-class taxpayer.

The budget is the process where the vision of the government gets reflected. We therefore need to examine the vision of the Government for building a responsible society, as we know only a responsible society can be sustainable. Therefore sustainability should be the ultimate priority of any government. The Union Finance Minister has put his best efforts to present a balanced and growth oriented budget ahead of the polls.

This issue covers a story on Northern Coalfields Limited a subsidiary of Coal India, situated at Singrauli District of Madhya Pradesh. The issue also covers the interview of Nisha Narayanan, COO, Red FM as the Interview of the Month. Interview of Farzana Cama Balpande, Head, BookASmile is covered as the CSR professional of the Month.

Nisha NarayananCOO, red Fm

Q In your long & successful career in radio industry, what has been your focus in designing or planning

radio programs? What is the source of your knowledge input?

A I started my journey with All India Radio, where I joined as an RJ. My broadcast career coincided with

the growth of cable and satellite television. I had also produced various documentaries and had been a newscaster primarily on Doordarshan. Prior to my current profile, I was heading the FM projects at South Asia FM for five years. Being part of the core team of one of India’s biggest brand re-launch exercise i.e. S FM into Red FM I worked on this transition across the country to build the brand Red FM while keeping the core elements of the brand intact.

In the early part of my career, I had not only covered live events and national issues, but also hosted chat shows and debates. This gave me a good knowledge of programming and therefore helped me plan and design radio shows better.

Q What is the quality and quantity of socially relevant programs of your FM channel?

A CSR initiatives are an essential part of our DNA and programs related to social issues have always remained

the focus for RED FM. Some of our properties are active for years now. We have ‘Bajao for a Cause’, which is RED FM’s annual campaign where an initiative of social significance is taken and in turn awareness and funds are raised to help the cause. RED FM has always been a socially aware and

responsible radio station. In different markets, we adopted a different cause that

is relevant and pertinent to the city. One of our biggest and award-winning campaign in 2017 was ‘Mumbai Khadde Mein’. We released a parody song called, “Mumbai, Tula BMC var Bharosa Nay Ka? (Mumbai, don’t you have faith in the BMC?)” highlighting the Mumbai pothole situations. This was sung by Red FM’s Morning No. 1 show RJ Malishka aka Mumbai Ki Rani and won immense support from our listeners. Under ‘Bajao for a Cause’ there have been several initiatives like – installation of sanitary vending machines in Kolkata, the cause of educating children of commercial sex workers in Mumbai and adopting abandoned children under the Palna initiative in Delhi.

Our new show with Priyanka Raina (wife of Suresh Raina) ‘The Priyanka Raina Show’ is all about women empowerment. The show is aimed at creating an amicable atmosphere for women and educates everyone about how important it is to create a safe environment for women in the country.

Q As a seasoned media personality, presently heading a prominent radio channel, how do you react to the

mandatory CSR provisions under the new Companies Act, 2013?

A Being a leader in the radio industry, we have been in the sector for a long time now and have done work not

only from an entertainment perspective but also from a social cause perspective. As a responsible corporate group it’s our duty to give back to the society. It works two ways, on one hand it helps in creating appositive imagery of the brand and on the other hand it helps us to fulfill the corporate obligation towards the society at large!

Q What possible roles FM channels can play to promote CSR Movement in India?

A As entertainment medium we try to pick topics that are interesting, topical, have some social relevance aiming

to create a bridge between the relevant authorities and the listeners.

Q Do you believe, Media Houses has a social responsibility, if so, how should they perform their

Social Responsibility?

A In 2017,‘Mumbai, Tula BMC var Bharosa Nay Ka? (Mumbai, don’t you have faith in the BMC?)’- The

Pothole Rap was created for the Mumbai pothole situations. The song took a dig at the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) in the context of the abysmal condition of Mumbai’s roads during the monsoon. We got a lot of support

from the Mumbaikars on the social media and the media. The impact of the video was immense in terms of its reach.

Another eg. Is when RED FM took up the civic issue of open urination on walls with ‘Ek Number Wall’ campaign in Delhi. These walls were spread across different locations across the city. RED FM transformed these walls into walls of revenge termed as ‘Ek No. Wall’- the wall that throws back water on the person who pees on the wall. Every time someone came to pee on the wall the wall sprayed back water on them.

Q Are you doing any programs or planning to do any programs targeting the corporate sector?

A RED FM targets all age groups. We reach out to everyone who has an access to radio. Our RJs are

extremely popular across masses including the corporate sector.

Q As per your assessment, what are the key development challenges, Corporate India should

address through CSR.

A Women are strong species and we need to stand for each other. We as women need to make each other

stronger and help uplift one another. We have always heard theories and speculations

about a difference between leadership abilities of men and women. With different personality traits, men and women act differently in diverse circumstances. Holding a senior leadership role in an industry majorly dominated by men, I can say that we need to be able to treat everyone equally.

Q Do you plan to do any programs on CSR to build a bridge between corporate and social sector?

A Currently we have started a new show on RED FM ‘The Priyanka Raina Show’ with Priyanka Raina (Suresh

Raina’s wife) who is an entrepreneur running a foundation dedicated to providing aid to the underprivileged mothers across the country. This show is all about women, for women.

Q How is your FM channel different from other channels in terms of socially relevant programs?

A Radio stations today have become so much more than just an entertainment platform for the listeners. Most

radio stations now pick up all sorts of issues like talking about how to save money, how to eat healthy, tips on relationships. Red FM through the ‘Priyanka Raina Show’ is picking up issues such as domestic violence, acid attack, girl child education, sexual harassment, gender biased and equality, menstrual hygiene, women of courage, taboos related to women etc. For topics that aren’t spoken often on radio channels,we have become a go to platform. It has become just a call away for our female listeners to reach out to us and openly talk about these challenges.

Q What is the idea behind the ‘The Priyanka Raina Show’?

A This is not our first association with Priyanka Raina. We started working with Priyanka in the beginning of

2017 with the ‘Palna Project’ initiative. ‘The Priyanka Raina Show’ is RED FM’s initiative on

women empowerment. Priyanka speaks to victims/ survivors on their journey at the same time discussing the problem faced by women, children, men, young girls in the society.

Q Anything you would love to share with the readers of CSR VISION.

A India has witnessed a surge in co.’s focusing on CSR. Today, CSR has become a key benchmark of corporate

performance and emerged as one of the most dynamic fields in India and across the world. Meeting some standards in CSR is a mandatory requirement for certain sizes of companies in India with special reference to amended Companies CSR Law.

There is a growing demand among corporates to humanize. However, getting involved in CSR at an individual level, leads to the larger betterment at a micro level. As a radio channel, we try to reach out to the last mile and make a difference!

The Government of India’s focus on the campaign ‘BetiBachaoBetiPadhao’ an initiative to create awareness regarding the waning Child Sex Ratio. Under its aegis, the government is working with corporates like us and other NGOs in generating awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls. u

Ola, India’s most popular mobility platform, has partnered with Mumbai based Grow-Trees, a social enterprise

that provides a unique greet-with-trees service, to launch a week-long tree plantation drive in Mumbai, starting from 23 January. The partnership aims to plant tree saplings for Ola Share rides taken by commuters; reinforcing Ola’s messaging around its national campaign #FarakPadtaHai that aims at reducing traffic, carbon footprint, and resulting pollution, through the adoption of shared mobility in the city.

With a view to sensitize commuters about the effects of air pollution while creating an inclusive and sustainable ecosystem, Ola, through this partnership, aims to empower communities by planting tree saplings on their behalf in Mumbai. To further motivate customers, Ola plans to provide every Ola Share commuter taking five or more rides with a code ‘GROWTREE’. In-addition, the same Ola Share commuter also gets an e-certificate, which acknowledges their contribution to the environment by way of planting a tree sapling on their behalf.

Commenting on the initiative Mr Shekhar Datta, City Head Mumbai Ola, said, “At Ola, we acknowledge that businesses have a key role to play in combating pollution, congestion and improving the green cover in Mumbai. Our campaign #FarakPadtaHai is a step in this direction where any form of shared mobility; bus, local trains, and / or Ola Share can positively impact the environment by reducing

traffic and helping to safeguard the local ecology. Taking our program a step further, our initiative with Grow-Trees has been rolled out to encourage a low carbon culture. The initiative has been designed to also empower commuters to do what they can to make a difference to the environment. While everyone wants to plant a tree, many of us are unable to do so because of the lack of opportunity and time. Our latest initiative has been rolled out to take care of such practical issues.”

Mr Pradip Shan, Founder Grow-Trees said, “For several years now, pollution and climate change have been a concern in India. Progressive penetration of citizen-inclusive initiatives such as these, further encourage citizens to emulate a low carbon culture. We are happy to partner with Ola in creating this movement towards a sustainable, pollution-free, and green tomorrow.”

Ola’s integrated #FarakPadtaHai programme was nationally rolled on 5th June, 2017 on World Environment Day. The program has received tremendous traction on ground from commuters and encourages people to switch to shared mobility and do their share in reducing vehicular pollution and traffic congestion levels in their cities.

Since its inception, Ola Share has effectively reduced 12 million kilograms of carbon dioxide and saved over 7 million litres of fuel while reducing the distance travelled by cabs by 84 million kilometres.

In a bid to scale up healthcare services in remote areas, the West Bengal government is leasing out and giving

management control of a newly built super-speciality hospital at Salboni in West Midnapore district to JSW Cement Ltd.

The cement maker, which has set up a 2.4 million tonne plant in Salboni, has agreed to take control of the Salboni hospital, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said, shortly after formally inaugurating the production facility.

JSW Cement’s managing director Parth Jindal had said that the company is committed to providing financial support to run the hospital.

The state government will continue to provide “some money”, Jindal said. “The balance will come from our funds dedicated for CSR (corporate social responsibility).” An in-principle decision has been made to take control of the hospital. A detailed agreement with the state government will follow, he added.

West Bengal has in the past few years built some 42 super-speciality hospitals, largely with funds received from the union government. Some of these hospitals are located in remote locations such as Salboni and Lalgarh, both in West Midnapore district.

At the time of building the hospitals, staffing them was a key concern, said a former health department official, who asked not to be named. Doctors have typically been found to be reluctant to work at these locations—Salboni, for instance, is at least two-and-half hours by car from Kolkata, this person said.

A public-private partnership to run such facilities may be a solution. However, the JSW Group’s lack of expertise in running healthcare facilities is a concern, added this former official.

Though terms of the lease have not been finalised yet, the hospital at Salboni will continue to provide services free of cost or at the same rates as any other government-run facility, said Biswa Ranjan Satpathi, advisor to the state’s health department and until recently the director of health services.

Asked if employees of the hospital are to be on the payroll of the state government or a private entity, Satpathi said such details are not clear yet, adding that this is the first experiment with private partnership of this nature.

Previously, the state government had offered land at subsidised rates to build private hospitals, and in return secured a commitment from them to reserve a portion of their facilities to provide affordable healthcare. But such hospitals have mostly been built in Kolkata and its suburbs.

Of the 42 super-speciality hospitals that have recently been built, 39 have been commissioned, and the remaining three are nearing completion, said another health department official, who, too, asked not to be named. Of those in operation, 36 have started to take in patients; three have started with outpatient departments, he added.

Full staffing at these hospitals may never be achieved, and many are being run with visiting doctors from Kolkata hospitals, according to this person. “Bringing in a private partner to run some these hospitals could help,” he added.

Samsung India announced the next phase of its ‘Safe India’ campaign, continuing its commitment to sensitize people

about responsible use of smartphones, especially when taking selfies, on the road.

The second phase of Samsung ‘Safe India’ campaign rolls out in Delhi through messages being aired across radio, public information systems and LED walls as well as films and skits in schools and colleges.

In 2017, Samsung had pledged support to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ drive to reduce road accidents, especially those that happen due to irresponsible usage of smartphones. India has the highest number of road accidents globally.

Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has joined the Samsung ‘Safe India’ campaign by not only sharing messages with the public on this important issue but also by involving Delhi Traffic Police to actively participate. A radio message by the minister on the importance of responsibly using smartphones on the road, including taking selfies on the road will be broadcast across various radio channels.

Samsung will also partner with Delhi Traffic Police to communicate with people on road safety through public information systems such as LED walls, text LED scroll bars and LED public display signage positioned at prominent areas in the city.

Delhi Traffic Police will put-up posters at selected “No Selfie” zones in city.

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport &

Highways, Government of India said, “I am deeply concerned by the fact that India has the highest number of road accidents globally. Irresponsible usage of mobile phones, including taking selfies on the road, is one of the major causes of road accidents. Please use your mobile phone responsibly.”

“Samsung cares for its consumers and the community around it. As a market leader, it is our duty to take the lead and support the Government’s vision of reducing road accidents. We are extremely honoured that the leadership of this country and of the states have extended support to the Samsung ‘Safe India’ initiative, which has gathered pace this year,” said Mr. Deepak Bhardwaj, Vice President, CSR, Samsung India.

In India, one road accident fatality happens every four minutes. Not only does India have the highest number of road accidents globally, according to a report by Carnegie Mellon University, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi and National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, the country accounts for over 50% of selfie-related fatalities in the world. State and local governments across the country are now concerned about the growing number of accidents triggered by people taking selfies while walking on the road, riding two-wheelers or driving cars.

This phase of the Samsung ‘Safe India’ campaign will also reach out to school children and youth in colleges as well. A message on responsible usage of smartphones, including ‘safe selfie’ from the Chief of Delhi Traffic Police will be played at all schools followed by an animation film on responsible usage of smartphones.

EBay has announced that together with its global community, it raised $84 million for charities in 2017,

bringing the total funds raised to nearly $810 million since 2003. “With $84 million through eBay for Charity in 2017, we are demonstrating our commitment to supporting the thousands of charities who use our platform to connect and raise funds every day,” said Brenda Halkias, General Manager of eBay for Charity. “This year, we will continue to focus on leveraging our platform for good and delivering new experiences on behalf of the eBay community. Together with our eBay buyers and sellers, we aim to raise $1 billion for charities by 2020.”

Through eBay for Charity, they enable millions of people to come together and make an impact. The program allows charities to sell items and raise funds with discounted fees, and consumers are able to buy and sell to benefit charities or just give at checkout. Businesses can also support their favorite organizations by donating a percentage of the proceeds from their sales. In 2017 alone, on average, $160 was raised every minute.

In 2017, high profile auctions of one-of-a-kind experiences and items brought in large charitable donations. The annual Power Lunch with Warren Buffett raised almost $2.7 million for GLIDE, a San Francisco-based charity that has a mission of breaking the cycles of poverty and

marginalization; while an exclusive sculpture and print created by artist Ai Weiwei raised nearly $800,000 for the Public Art Fund, which helps bring contemporary art to New York City; and Ryan Adams’ acoustic guitar with signed original lyrics resulted in over $63,000 to the ACLU, which works to defend and preserve individual rights and liberties.

In addition to partnerships with some of the biggest and well-known celebrities and charities, the true power of eBay’s charitable platform lies in everyday donations from people around the world rallying behind important causes. In the wake of recent natural disasters and as a humanitarian response, the eBay community donated over $700,000 directly to related charities in 2017.

Jeff Bezos recently donated $33 million to TheDream.US, an organization that says it provides up to 4,000

“dreamers” tuition for higher education programs. These immigrants, who arrived in the U.S. as young children and had no say in where they would eventually grow up, are currently in legal limbo due to the ongoing debate over the renewal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Most of these young adults, despite any protections granted by DACA, are ineligible for financial aid or in-state college tuition.

As far as the dollar amount goes, this sum is a relative pittance for Bezos, whose fortune derived from Amazon’s growth has reached a point at which some observers are calling him the wealthiest person of all time. Of course, Bezos has his critics, as many allege his reported $105 billion net worth is in part due to the conditions many workers find themselves while working in Amazon’s “fulfillment centers,” or warehouses, across the U.S.

But according to TheDream.US, Bezos’s larges is a huge shot in the arm, as it is enough to fund 1,000 scholarships for dreamers across the U.S. The program offers these students an average of $33,000 in tuition and other assistance for four years at 70 colleges and universities across 15 states.

Meanwhile, Bezos was one of many dozens of top CEOs who recently signed a letter urging Congress to ensure DACA is extended before March 5, when the program expires.

While potential upheaval in some of their employees’ lives is behind these business leaders’ sentiment, economics also plays a role. “If Congress fails to act our economy could lose $215 billion in GDP,” the letter concludes.

Supporters of TheDream.US reads like a who’s who of Corporate America, with a roster that includes The Gates Foundation, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Ford Foundation, The Coca-Cola Foundation and The PepsiCo Foundation.

In addition to the almost $50 million in scholarship assistance the program has funded to date, TheDream.US also bills itself as a leading advocacy group for dreamers. The group works with other organizations to lobby policymakers on the plight of dreamers, has partnered with the Department of Education to develop college resource guides for these students and is striving to boost access to college for these young Americans.

With a common goal of improving recycling access and increasing recycling rates by educating consumers

about the value of recycling, the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) and Keep America Beautiful announced their partnership at the 2018 Keep America Beautiful National Conference, taking place Jan. 17-19 at the Fairmont Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

IBWA will become a national sponsor of America Recycles Day, a Keep America Beautiful national initiative that takes place annually on and in the weeks leading into Nov. 15. It is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States. America Recycles Day educates people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being, and helps to motivate occasional recyclers to become everyday recyclers.

“The International Bottled Water Association is very excited to be working with Keep America Beautiful on this shared mission to improve recycling,” says Joe Doss, IBWA president and CEO. “The bottled water industry has for many years worked hard to proactively encourage consumers to always recycle their empty bottled water containers. All bottled water containers are 100 percent recyclable – even the caps. The fact that our containers are so easy to recycle, where facilities exists, is more important than ever now – as there are more and more opportunities for these

recycled containers to have a second life, not only as new bottles but also shoes, clothing, outdoor decking, furniture, playgrounds, and more.

“This new partnership with Keep America Beautiful will help IBWA expand our current efforts to encourage consumers to always recycle their bottled water containers with caps on, while at home or on the go, while bringing a new focus to reach and change the behavior of those who are currently less inclined to participate in recycling,” Doss said.

“It’s our aim to teach Americans the importance of recycling right – recycling clean, uncontaminated materials correctly – and to encourage buying products made from recycled content,” said Helen Lowman, president and CEO, Keep America Beautiful. “Partnerships with industry stakeholders such as the IBWA and the support of programs like America Recycles Day are critical to help raise awareness to improve recycling participation and access.

“We stand committed to helping Americans better understand recycling and its potential for economic, environmental and community benefits by working with all stakeholders – manufacturers; the waste management industry; government entities; other nonprofit organizations; trade associations and beyond – to make recycling more sustainable and a daily social norm for all people,” Lowman said.

Citi’s investment will expand awareness of Earned Income Tax Credits and availability of high quality free

tax preparation services in 12 cities and regions across the country

Citi Community Development announced $2.6 million investment to support free tax preparation services for eligible workers in major cities and regions across the country. Launched on National Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day, the investment will support municipal efforts to expand awareness, access and capacity of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites during the 2018 tax season. Citi Community Development’s investment aims to help local organizations complete over 230,000 tax returns, resulting in approximately $191 million in tax refunds during the 2018 tax season. Citi also announced that volunteers from the bank will serve as tax preparers in VITA sites across the New York City region.

“Research has shown that 44 percent of households in the U.S. lack enough savings to cover a $400 emergency expense. This eye-opening statistic illustrates the persistent financial vulnerability millions of Americans still feel despite the growing economy” said Bob Annibale, Global Director of Citi Community Development. “Earned Income Tax Credits are often the largest cash infusion workers will receive all year, providing an essential financial cushion for those households living paycheck-to-paycheck. The investment Citi is making today will ensure that by working with local governments and trusted community organizations, eligible families will have access to free, high quality tax preparation services, and the full roster of tax credits they have earned.”

Citi’s investment supports the establishment or expansion of significant EITC Awareness campaigns in 12 cities and regions across the country including: New York City and Long Island, New York; Newark, New Jersey; Miami-Dade County, Florida; the Bay Area region; Fresno, Orange County, San Diego, Sacramento and Los Angeles in California; South Dakota; and Washington, DC. Initiatives funded in part by Citi Community Development’s investments include notable innovations. In the Bay Area, the cities of Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose will establish a shared branded EITC awareness campaign and tax preparation network, the first time the three local governments have coordinated to create a regional strategy. In Los Angeles, Citi Community Development is collaborating with California State University Northridge, the Department of Veteran Affairs and the City of Los Angeles to support greater EITC take-up among veterans and military families through a peer-to-peer approach where experienced tax

preparers will be recruited from the military community. “EITC is one of the largest poverty reduction programs

in the United States and a vital tax credit that helps working families pay bills and save for their families’ future,” said New York City Department of Consumer Affairs Commissioner Lorelei Salas. “We would like to thank Citi for their long-time support of our tax campaign, and encourage New Yorkers to take advantage of our trusted and professional free tax prep services to ensure that their returns are completed accurately and that they are receiving every credit and deduction available to them, including the EITC.”

According to the Internal Revenue Service, in 2017, 26 million people received more than $63 billion in EITC with the average amount received was more than $2,400. Citi’s investment builds on three years of prior investments and pilots targeting EITC utilization, most notably in New York City.

Since 2015, Citi has supported New York City in implementing key recommendations from Designing for Financial Empowerment (DFE), a collaborative initiative to

build more accessible and effective public services to meet the needs of financially vulnerable residents by using a participatory approach known as “service design” to improve services with the direct involvement of all stakeholders. New York’s Free Tax Prep campaign implemented several new measures developed by DFE to improve take up, including the rollout of new unified brand identity for tax prep services, and a web-based pre-registration portal.

to financial inclusion and economic empowerment for underserved individuals, families and communities across the U.S. Through innovative collaborations with municipalities, community groups and leading nonprofit organizations, we harness Citi’s expertise, products and services to help expand opportunity for all.

While agriculture is a major contributor to economic growth in Kenya – it employs more than 75 percent of the workforce and accounts for approximately 51 percent of Kenya’s gross domestic product – many farmers still operate on a subsistence scale due to limited access to finance, inadequate access to quality inputs, reliance on rain-fed approaches, and limited access to reliable markets.

“Our partnership with Cargill presents an opportunity for participating agribusinesses to access directly more reliable markets with better payment terms that will enable them to increase their incomes, improve their livelihoods and reduce their reliance on third parties,” said Kimberly Tilock, Global Communities Kenya Country Director.

Through this partnership, Global Communities and Cargill will work together to resolve challenges faced by AIMS-supported agribusinesses to meet production and quality standards. Support will include capacity building in quality specifications and management, linkages to finance, input providers and transport, and development of aggregation centers.

“We are excited to work with a partner that is passionate about empowering people and supporting local businesses. We want to raise the profile of agriculture as a viable business and, this is an opportunity to share our extensive skills, knowledge, and experience to directly impact the earning potential of local farmers,” said Carl Tundo, Origination Manager, Cargill in Kenya.

Lixil Group Corp. has been offering affordable and clean toilets to help enhance sanitation in developing nations.

The major toilet and housing equipment manufacturer has put in place 1.2 million units of the “safe toilet,” known as SATO, in developing countries through donations by citizens’ groups and foundations as well as Lixil’s direct sales.

The program has helped an estimated 6 million people, according to the company. The toilet, developed in 2012 by Lixil’s American Standard brand, was launched in Bangladesh in 2013 and has since become commercially available in Uganda, Kenya and India.

SATO is designed to flush waste with only 200 milliliters of water. It features a counter weighted trap door to minimize odors as well as the passage of flies and other disease-carrying insects, said Tadashi Matsuoka of the Tokyo-based company. The toilet is structured so simply that it can be produced in the targeted developing countries, the company said.

Lixil is hoping to reach an additional 15 million people with plans to manufacture and distribute toilets in Nigeria, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Haiti, Ghana, Malawi and the Philippines with $1 million in funding under a program launched in September by the U.N. General Assembly.

The Water Innovation Engine, established by the U.N. High Level Panel on Water, is responsible for the Urban Sanitation Challenge program, which funds projects tackling poor sanitation in developing countries.

“Priced from $2 to $10, depending on model and

country, (Lixil toilets) offer an effective, affordable way to mitigate the dangers and unpleasantness of typical pit latrines,” according to Grand Challenges Canada, which leads the program.

Grand Challenges Canada is funded by the Canadian government and other partners. It provides funds to innovators to help improve lives in low- and middle-income countries. The blue plastic toilet “looks simple but is designed by utilizing knowledge of hydrodynamics,” said AkaneOdake, a senior manager at Lixil.According to the company, approximately 2.3 billion people around the world lack access to safe and sanitary toilets, of whom 892 million are forced to practice open defecation. What’s more, every day 800 children under the age of 5 die from diarrhea-related diseases due to unclean water or poor sanitary conditions, it said.

Lixil hopes to make the venture a standalone business by 2020 and improve hygienic conditions for 100 million people.“We set up the social toilet department in 2016 to help resolve the grave problem of sanitation in developing countries,” Matsuoka said.

Lixil carried out a campaign from April to September to donate a SATO unit to developing countries every time it sold one of its integrated shower toilets. The response to the program has been better than imagined, said Lixil spokeswoman Yuka Okamoto.“As more than 200,000 units have been donated, we believe (the program) has raised the public awareness about sanitary problems in developing countries,” she said.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation, along with its Marketers and Retailers, raised more than $65,000 in 2017

through the installation of “Spirit Pumps” at participating CITGO stations across 29 states. These specially wrapped, branded fuel pumps were operational at different times throughout the year to raise money for a variety of education, charitable and community service programs.

Upon installation, CITGO stations identified local organizations to partner with and encouraged community members to come out and support the various causes by filling up at the designated pumps throughout the campaign.

At the conclusion of each Spirit Pump, a certain percentage of sales was donated by the stations directly to the selected local organizations and CITGO provided an additional monetary match to each organization.

“The CITGO Spirit Pump initiative not only helps to offset a number of costs for families, schools, hospitals, charities and community service organizations, but it also provides local community members with an opportunity to get involved and take part in improving our communities by

simply heading to the fuel pump,” said Alan Flagg, CITGO Assistant Vice President of Supply and Marketing.

Local chapters of the Special Olympics were among the charitable organizations that benefitted from the money raised during 2017 Spirit Pump campaigns. From September through October, CITGO, along with its Boston partners, installed Spirit Pumps at 15 stations throughout the Boston area to help raise funds for long-time CITGO partner, Special Olympics, ultimately donating $25,000 to help support their mission of building inclusive communities.

CSR as a vital component. As a head of the organization, I endeavor to integrate CSR into our core business philosophy.

Q What is the level of top management involvement other than yourself in CSR? Can you give few

examples?

A In NCL, top management plays a crucial role in the effective functioning of CSR activities. Involvement of

top management spans across the stages from mentoring to monitoring. Guidance is imparted after detailed discussions on the complicated issues. Further, constant follow-ups and monitoring is done to ensure the effective implementation of CSR activities according to CSR Policy.

Q What is the level of Employee Engagement and involvement in CSR activities of NCL?

A Be it CSR or non-CSR, employees of our organization takes ownership of the activities entrusted to them.

This is engrained in the culture of NCL and is reflected in NCL’s underlying idea of ‘Mera NCL’. In addition to the axial role being played by our employees working in CSR department for the betterment of the society, overall engagement of employees in CSR activities and PAP (Project Affected Persons) interface is considerably high in NCL due to limited area of operations. For instance- Medical and Welfare division of the company regularly visits villages to undertake various activities in supervision of CSR Team. Similarly, the works of Revenue & Rehabilitation Division and Manpower & Recruitment Division involves direct interface with Project Affected Persons (PAP). Working in close association leads to an ecosystem which not only helps in

seamless implementation of CSR activities but also helps build a strong bond with people living in and around operational areas of NCL.

Q How do you find your CSR in NCL is different from other coal companies in under COAL India and

outside?

A Projects/units of NCL around which most of the CSR activities are undertaken lie within the vicinity of each

other. This vicinity helps Projects/units in particular and NCL is general to streamline their CSR activities. Further, it not only helps in better coordination and planning but also reduces the probability of duplicity in CSR activities.

Q Do you think the CSR potential is fully actualizes in NCL?

A NCL thrives towards optimizing the capabilities to attain sustainability across the performance

parameters. In line with this, NCL is committed to the welfare of the needy section of the society. Therefore, NCL’s attempt is to undertake such CSR Projects which are sustainable and impactful thus leaving positive imprints on the lives of the people.

Q CSR is a domain with unlimited scope for innovation and creativity for addressing developmental

challenges around the companies’ area of operations benefitting the company by default. What kind of developmental innovation is tried in NCL under CSR? If any or if not, what are the plans for future?

A NCL is planning to incorporate technological solutions within its CSR domain. For instance, discussions are

underway for development of CSR application which can collate data and generate reports regarding CSR activities. Further, geo-tagging of the assets created under CSR will be done and will be incorporated in the application itself. Further, apart from in-house expertise NCL is undertaking its CSR activities through other expert organizations which are using innovative techniques during implementation. For instance, Madhya Pradesh Women Poultry Producers Company Pvt. Ltd. (MPWPCL) has applied its technological innovation in the field of poultry farming which has resulted in the successful, self-sustainable and profitable model of poultry farming undertaken by SC/ST beneficiaries in Singrauli.

Q Any information you would like to share with the readers of CSR VISION?

A I would like to share the message that as we are in a coal business, we ensure energy security of the nation

but no business can flourish in a society that fails. We design our activities in a way that brings about sustainable development with inclusive growth. u

Q What is the strategic connection between goals of BookMyShow and BookASmile?

A BookMyShow, as India’s largest online ticketing platform gives people access to their favorite entertainment options right from movies to events. While you and I

may take these for granted, there are many less fortunate who are not privy to these experiences and this is why BookASmile came into existence in 2012. We wanted to do something distinctive and revolutionary in the charity space by lending our arm to an area where we already have a strong foothold. Today we provide opportunities to those from the disadvantaged section of society to experience a world of entertainment, music, theatre, arts, sports and culture.

Q What are the kind of projects BookASmile undertakes?

A We wanted to provide opportunities to those from the disadvantaged sections of society to experience a world of entertainment, music, theatre, arts, sports and

culture, things that you and I usually take for granted. This stemmed from the observation that there are already plenty of brilliant organizations that are working towards other critical areas such as health, nutrition, and education but we felt that entertainment and culture was something as important, and perhaps their importance largely undermined.

We work across platforms and geographies pan India, extending our services to other causes too like senior citizens, vocational & life-skill building, empowerment programs, animal welfare, rural development, natural calamities and the armed forces.

FEBRUARY 2018 47

Q Briefly describe your role and responsibilities, and how many years you have been in the charity space.

A For me Roles are limiting. Though officially I head and run the charity initiative of BookMyShow, I make sure I am

involved in every aspect of work carried out at BookASmile right from project selection to its impact assessment.

Q Before BookASmile, were you working in any other professional domain, if so, please describe?

A I am a commerce graduate born and brought up in Mumbai. In my 20’s I started off my career as a preschool

teacher and I remained associated with all aspects pertaining to the field of pre-school education for about two decades until BookASmile happened.

Q Tell us about someone (mentor, sponsor, friend, hero) who influenced your journey with BookASmile, and

how.

A I have known Ashish Hemrajani, the CEO and Founder of BookMyShow for many years now. We were on a flight

together when he first told me about BookASmile. He was looking for someone to run this initiative with as

much passion and not treat it like another job. He seemed to think I was the right fit and that is how my journey with BookASmile began.

Q What is the best advice you have ever received?

A Something that resonates with me is “You are only limited by your imagination. So, Start where you are, Use what

you have & Do what you can!”

Q Can you share a recent accomplishment you are especially proud of in your role at BookASmile?

A To be entirely honest, every project, cause and initiative that we engage in is unique and impactful. It would be

very difficult to pin point any one particular programme or project but I’d say that taking some projects international has definitely upped the game in the field we work in. Facilitating and being an integral influence of an individual’s life is definitely something close to my heart. In fact recently, our initiatives like Flight of Fantasy where we took over 500children to Agra for a field trip, setting up a Science Centre in Mumbai which has benefitted lives of over 4000 underprivileged children has been really appreciated and has encouraged us to come up with more similar initiatives.

Q If you had the power to make one major change at your company or in your industry, what would it be?

A We believe that every little effort counts. While organizations in their own capacities are supporting

various causes and projects, the impact would definitely be manifold once employees also begin to contribute. At BookMyShow, many employees volunteer and lend support to BookASmile’s projects and we hope to involve more such people going forward.

Q What is your level of involvement in the initiatives that BookASmile undertakes?

A The question can be answered in two ways. One, BookASmile has its own parameters and filters basis

which we decide which causes we’d like to support to create a deep impact. We are inspired by individuals who can make a difference and groups/NGOs that work on creating more sustainable impact. Two, once we take up a cause, we are highly involved in it from day one, reviewing its progress and evaluating the impact.

Q What are the future initiatives BookASmile plans on?

A Initially, BookASmile primarily worked within Mumbai and had a few liaisons with NGO’s outside Maharashtra.

Over the next one year, through research, referrals and showcasing the work that we did, we connected and liaised with many more NGO’s and organisations pan India. Today, we are looking to grow and expand to different geographies in India and wish to impact lives and change perspectives of people residing everywhere, from big cities to towns and villages including kids, senior citizens, physically/mentally challenged individuals or even the armed forces. We already actively work with over 170 NGOs across India and have successfully impacted over 1 Million lives through the medium of cinema, art, theatre, sports, music, rural development, empowerment programs, armed forces and animal welfare programs.

Currently, we are working on a wide range of programs and initiatives through our network of partner NGO’s pan India. In the education space, we have helped set up a science centre in Mumbai for experiential learning and are supporting Gurukul’s in Bangalore to empower young adults in Life skills. In the field of sports, we continue to support football programmes for girls in Ranchi, Khelo Rugby in Kolkata among others. We are also supporting numerous projects in the fields of arts, music, dance, film making etc.

Q Describe your perfect day.

A Well it would definitely include a few of my favorite things right from a perfect cup of team to start the day, a slight

nip in the air, a productive day with the BookASmile team, quality time with my teenage daughter and my Jack Russell Terrier. Add to it good Chinese takeout for lunch, yoga and meditation and an event well spent with loved ones over interesting conversations. u

ranveer singh owns Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus

based on a Sufi poem of the same name written in 1540 by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has added his own flair and interpretation to ‘Padmaavat’, giving it a fairy-tale sheen.

This makes all the controversy pointless, and pale in comparison to the spectacle that unfolds. Bhansali reunites with two of his favourite leads in recent times - Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, but adds Shahid Kapoor to complete this trio of commendable acting talent.

First things first, the film is a quintessential Bhansali work- it’s a visual spectacle in every which way. The scenes are shot and edited (for most part) with such finesse that despite not having a surprise ending, the film makes for a gorgeous cinematic experience. Sudeep Chatterjee’s cinematography creates a canvas that comes to you as a magnanimous painting and especially during the war scenes, wherein the expanse is grand and the imagery is flattering. The kesariya colour of Rajput pride is well woven in every second frame except for the ones wherein Khilji’s dark side begins to prevail. And you’ll call yourself a sadist but Bhansali can even make a jauhar scene look spectacular and a few others, a bit overwhelming.

Deepika is an epitome of grace and she delivers a knockout performance as a Rani yet again. Her portrayal of Padmavati is all things ethereal and keen. And even though she doesn’t have many dialogues, it’s her eyes that do the talking. Plus, her being a strategist in times of conflict, gives her an edge. Shahid does a controlled act of the righteous king and does full justice to his part. With kohl-ed eyes and an impressive build, he looks the part. But the film only and only belongs to Ranveer Singh.

He is in top form and doesn’t bat an eye lid while playing a character so black and honestly, despite being an anti-hero in the film, he actually makes you root for him. He is eclectic and wins every scene he is in. His eccentric moves and dialogue delivery make him an ever-ideal fit for Khilji. As a menacing ruler, who is atrociously self-consumed with the idea of victory and becoming the Sultan and gaining possession of all things exquisite, Khilji’s depiction might raise some eyebrows but as far as performance goes, no one could have done it better than a meat-mincing Ranveer.

But Padmaavat is hardly the ‘history-changing’ film that the Karni Sena is screaming themselves hoarse for. It is, at best, an average film that is elevated primarily by Ranveer’s fabulous performance, and in parts by the opulence of it.

Jadav molai PayengDetermined to make a change, at sixteen years old he started planting trees to alleviate the environmental damage and before he knew it, he ended up creating a forest! Today, the forest is 1,360 acres huge and harbours various endangered species like Tigers, Rhinoceros, and various other deer, birds, rabbits and Elephants. Jadav himself does not consider this as much of an achievement as it is a way of life and he continues to live on the outskirts of his forest where he keeps himself busy by expanding its borders.

tilak VijWould you quit a well-paying job in an air conditioned office in Germany to come and work tirelessly in the unforgiving jungles of Himachal Pradesh? Well, Tilak Vij did. Troubled by the human-animal conflicts, he decided to leave Germany and worked tirelessly to save the animals in the state. After years of hard work, he has created six nature clubs, which have helped increase the state’s green cover while also proving a safe haven for the animals.

madhu BhatnagarA teacher by profession, Madhu Bhatnagar always cared about the environment. However, in 1999, when she came up with the idea of implementing rooftop rainwater harvesting in her school, little did she know that she was about to bring about a revolution. The model was soon adopted by over 2000 schools all over India, helping save millions of litres of water in the process.

StructureThe context and structure we work within always have a set of parameters, limitations and guidelines. A leader knows how to work within the structure and not let the structure impinge upon the process or the project. Know the structure intimately, so as to guide others to effectively work within the given parameters. Do this to expand beyond the boundaries.

IntuitionIntuition is the capacity of knowing without the use of rational processes; it’s the cornerstone of emotional intelligence. People with keen insight are often able to sense what others are feeling and thinking; consequently, they’re able to respond perfectly to another through their deeper understanding. The stronger one’s intuition, the stronger leader one will be.

Big Picture, Small actionsExcellent leaders see the big picture concurrent with managing the details. Small actions lead to the big picture; the excellent manager is skillful at doing both: think big while also paying attention to the details.

domain knowledgeA good leader has to understand what kind of process he is managing. How his team members are working. What kind of tasks they perform. This skill is not as important as the others but without it, in some cases, the team and the manager will never

work at full capacity, using the whole potential due to lack of mutual understanding.

Command authority naturallyIn other words, they don’t need borrowed power to enlist the help of others – they just know how to do it. They are optimistic leaders who are viewed in a favorable light and are valued by the organization

do not use information as a weapon or a means of controlThey communicate clearly, completely, and concisely. All the while giving others real information without fear of what they’ll do with it.

No man will make a great leader who wants to

do it all himself or to get all the credit for doing it.
