New Year’s Reflections

Looking back on the months gone by, As a new year starts and an old one ends,

We contemplate what brought us joy,

And we think of our loved ones and our friends.

Recalling all the happy times, Remembering how they enriched our lives,

We reflect upon who really counts, As the fresh and bright new year arrives.

And when we ponder those who do, we immediately think of you.

Thanks for being one of the reasons we'll have a Happy New Year!

Management

Welcome to 2017

It is today which will form tomorrow, and tomorrow which will form the future!

Live for today, because yesterday is over, tomorrow is yet to come, but today is

the present!

We might say, "There are challenging times ahead, but we believe from the

heart, that with all of our strengths, resources, capabilities, and

by working together, using our intelligence, wisdom and experience, we will

not just overcome these challenges, but we will, indeed, thrive and HAVE THE

BEST YEAR YET!

As we reflect on the past year we give thanks for all of the fond memories we

have shared and look forward to creating new memories to share with our

families and loved ones.

We look forward to the completion of the renovations for Abernethy Nursing

Home.

2017 is also the year we prepare for the upcoming re accreditation for Jacaranda

Grove Hostel.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the staff for their dedication

and ongoing care that they have delivered to all of our residents over the past 12

months.

our newsletter so if you would like to know what we are doing and to plan

ahead of time this will make it easier for you. We have regular daily, weekly &

monthly activities; however we also plan a diverse and fun program of special

events.

Activities often include residents, families, friends, staff and volunteers and can

be a real mix of fun personalities.

If you have ideas for activities you would like included in our program, or if

there is something of particular interest for an individual resident let us know.

We will endeavor to meet each person’s needs and our amazing volunteers often

What is the Birthstone for January?

Giving a piece of jewelry containing a birthstone gem will bring the wearer with

good luck and protection. Monthly birthstones symbolize the month of birth

according to the Gregorian Calendar. What is the Birth stone for January? The

following old poem provides the answer! And this page provides some

information about the meaning of the January gem stone, the color, symbolism

and significance of this lovely birth stone:

Australia Day

On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about

Australia and being Australian. It's the day to reflect on what we have achieved

and what we can be proud of in our great nation. It's the day for us to re-commit

to making Australia an even better place for the future.

Australia Day, 26 January, is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of

11 convict ships from Great Britain, and the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney

Cove by its commander Captain Arthur Phillip.

Though 26 January marks this specific event, today Australia Day celebrations

reflect contemporary Australia: our diverse society and landscape, our

remarkable achievements and our bright future. It also is an opportunity to

reflect on our nation's history, and to consider how we can make Australia an

even better place in future.

On Australia Day, over half of the nation’s population of 21 million attend

either an organized community event, or get together with family and friends

with the intention of celebrating our national day. Many more spend the public

holiday relaxing with family and friends.

Yet Australia Day is much more than barbeques and fireworks. It is more than

another public holiday. It is more than the pride and excitement of new citizens

who call themselves Australian for the first time on 26 January after being

conferred citizenship.

Australian Open History

Australia Open is one of the most renowned tennis tournaments in the world.

Staged in the month of January, every calendar year, the event has its origin

deeply etched in the year 1905, when the championship was first started. Similar

to the other Grand Slam tournaments, the events has men's and women's singles

competitions; men's, women's, and mixed doubles; and junior's and master's

competitions. Being the only Grand Slam tournament that features indoor play,

Australia Open has grown in size and stature, with every passing year. A peep

into its history would help us know when was it commenced, how did it gain

popularity and when is it played.

Our Flag

Author: Unknown

Our Flag wears the stars that blaze at night,

In our Southern skies of blue,

And a little old flag in the corner,

That’s part of our heritage too.

It’s for the English, the Scots and the Irish,

Who were sent to the ends of the earth,

The rogues and schemers, the doers and dreamers,

Who gave modern Australia its birth.

And you, who are shouting to change it,

You don’t seem to understand,

It’s the flag of our laws and our language,

Not the flag of a faraway land.

Though there are plenty of people who'll tell you,

How when Europe was plunged into night,

That little old flag in the corner,

Was their symbol of freedom and light.

It doesn’t mean we owe allegiance,

To a forgotten imperial dream,

We’ve the stars to show where we’re going,

And the old flag to show where we’ve been.

It’s only an old piece of bunting,

It’s only an old piece of rag,

But there are thousands who’ve died for its honour,

And shed of their blood for OUR FLAG.
