Things really slowed down in my garden with the heat wave. I’m so glad that we are finally getting a reprieve with some cooler weather. As I said last month, I am way behind with my garden. In fact I just planted my peppers and eggplant on Saturday. My tomatoes are looking really good though! I’ve had to have my husband help me plant some fruit trees and bushes. I also har- vested my first garlic crop and I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a hardneck variety called Ger- man Red. I did manage to get to go to Pfanny’s Farm last week. It was so nice to get away and spend some time with everyone touring the farm. So much to learn! The weather was warm but it was nice and relaxing and we had a nice lunch. Thank you to all of the people who made it possible! Don’t forget we will have volunteer workday at the Elkhorn Valley Museum on the second Saturday in August at 9:00 am. You don’t have to go just on workdays. You can go any- time it’s good for you. This counts towards your volunteer hours as well. The officers will be getting together soon to talk about speakers for the monthly meetings. We’ll need to find a time between summer activities and judging at the county fairs! If you know someone who would like to present a topic at a meeting or if you know a master gardener who would like to present a topic please let any one of us know. Stay cool and maybe I’ll see you around town. Hello Master Gardeners: How has your summer been going? Things really slowed down in my garden with the heat wave. I’m so glad that we are finally getting a reprieve with some cooler weather. As I said last month, I am way behind with my garden. In fact I

just planted my peppers and eggplant on Saturday. My tomatoes are looking really good though! I’ve had to have my husband help me plant some fruit trees and bushes. I also har-vested my first garlic crop and I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a hardneck variety called Ger-man Red. You can go any-time it’s good for you. This counts towards your volunteer hours as well. The officers will be getting together soon to talk about speakers for the monthly meetings.

Would any Master Gardener members have any experience growing tomatoes on a fence? Due to the very high ground water levels, I’ve not been able to plant anything in my regular garden. So I’m try-ing to grow tomatoes on a fence in my ‘small’ garden and would

like some advice. Thanks, Karen Zierke
