HELLO AND WELCOME TO THIS SPECIAL BOOK ABOUT NORTHCOTT SCHOOL WRITTEN BY US, THE STUDENTS.
WE ARE GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL GREAT. YOU WILL READ ABOUT WHAT IT’S LIKE TO SPEND A DAY HERE (PAGES 3-6), LESSONS AT NORTHCOTT (PAGES 7-9), COMMENTS FROM STUDENTS ABOUT WHY THEY LIKE NORTHCOTT SCHOOL (PAGES 10-12) and our favourite things about the school (pages 13-15.)

As soon as I arrive at school I think of all the fun lessons I’ll have (like maths and English) and the fantastic staff I’ll see. First off every day most of the students start with basic skills where people normally read and I do too. I normally have this with my teacher, the kindest teacher I have ever met, and I have most of my lessons with her.
The next lesson (that is different every day) I normally have fun because we can use toys with it as well as getting support when I need it. Every student I’ve met gets support from their terrific teachers and friendly teaching assistants.
When it gets to break we get to have snacks and if we don’t have them we can always get fruit from the fruit trolley for only 20p! After break, we have another fantastic lesson, that is maths most days.
When, its five minutes past twelve we wash our hands (to keep healthy) and then go to lunch! Just before we have our lunch we do a prayer, it is for every little cup and plate we will always be grateful amen. The hot dinners go in table order to keep the line shorter. Once everyone has finished their lunch, people who have been good (like me) get to choose a fun activity from the list and the options change every day!
We get around 15 minutes there and go back to our classes where we go to our afternoon lessons that is either science, music, history, geography, RE, PE, swimming or PSHE for me. They are normally the fun lessons of the day, however all the lessons are fun. As soon as the lovely lessons have finished I go home (on my bus) and get ready for another day!

The thing I like most about this school is the teachers and TAs. They have always helped me when I get stuck with hard work and when I am feeling confused about my feelings and emotions.
I have made a lot of friends who I like going on the playground with to play games. Sometimes it is raining so me and my friends go to the sports activity during lunch time. We play different sports and games and I really like it because there are pupils from other years in there as well.
I like the different clubs here at school. On a Monday I go to the after school club. I am a part of the school council and I go to the meetings with pupils from other classes.
I have been at Northcott since year 7. It makes me feel really happy to be here. All the teachers and TAs are really kind to me.
I come to school on the bus, which picks me up from home. When I get here I am taken to my classroom where I get to read my book before my lessons start. My favourite lesson is English; the teacher is great and we are reading a brilliant book in the class.

I came to Northcott in year 9 from a different school. I really like it here as I have made lots of new friends. I really like how school has helped me, I feel comfortable here being around other pupils with similar needs to mine. The teachers and TAs are really understanding of my needs too.
I really like the rewards system in the school and the opportunity to take part in lots of different activities.
As a senior pupil we are given the chance to be independent which is nice to know that I am trusted to be sensible.
YEAR 1oHARRY
It feels nice being here; the staff really help me out; they always get me to try things on my own first which has really helped me with my spellings. I like that I get to be myself and everyone understands. I really like drawing and art and I get to do them both quite a lot.
I have some good friends here; some are in my class, and some are in other classes. I like going on the playground with my friends but if it rains I go to the Lego activity because I really like building things with Lego.

I started Northcott when I was 8. I was in class 4 until I was 12. I went into class 8. My favourite thing here is the lunchtime activities. Now I am in year 10 I can go on the computers. Sometimes I go on the playground to get some fresh air.
I am happy being here at Northcott. I feel really safe, the staff look after me. I like doing my work on my own but I get stuck and the TAs help.
I like going to see staff where I learn about my autism. I think it really helps me understand things.
My favourite lesson is maths. I enjoy number work. I don’t like doing shapes in maths lessons, it is difficult.

My class teacher is really funny; she teaches me for maths and makes me laugh sometimes. I have learnt a lot in maths.
I came from a mainstream school and started Northcott in year 9. I like coming to school every day. I have learnt a lot more and made good friends. Mainstream school was really hard for me and I needed help all the time. This school makes things easier for me. The lessons are easier and the teachers help me to understand. I like that there are not many kids here. At mainstream there were too many kids.

My favourite lesson is ICT. We are using a site called English type. It teaches you how to type without looking at the keyboard. It has different games and online lessons that help you to type. If you do really well in the typing games you unlock customizations for your character and you can unlock extra games to play.

P.E. is my favourite lesson. We play lots of different sports like: football, rugby, badminton and basketball. Football and basketball are my favourites. The teachers are really good. I sometimes find some of the things in PE really hard but the teachers help me out and make it easier.
