Deb Peterson said she has not received makeups other than these. Please turn in makeups to her at: [email protected], or [email protected].

July 15: Mini-meet at Maloneys (no report)July 15: Bill Tubbs, RAG4Clubfoot Annual Meeting, by Zoom.July 16: Bill Tubbs, Rotary Club Northfield, MN, by Zoom.July 16: Board of Directors, Zoom Meeting: Brad Burt, Patrick Olsen, Josie Seymour, Tracy Lindaman, Deb Peter-son, Jeremy Kaiser, Scott Case, Jeff Martens, Fred Mulch, Brian Williams, Tyler Bindrum, Greg Schaapveld, Miles Thompson, Heather Wagner, Bill Tubbs.

No meal RSVPs will be needed for this week's Rotary meeting. Instead, we will order the same number of meals from the Steeplegate Inn that we had members in attendance for the past two meetings. The reason for trying it this way is that many members have changes in their schedules between Monday (when they RSVP) and Friday. This will better accommodate those fluctuations. For those members attending via Zoom, we are resolv-ing our audio feed issue so that you can ask questions of the speaker. I sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to learn and improve.

This is New! Corn Boil chair John Max-well says curbside pickup starting at 5:30 p.m. will be offered for those who need to take extra caution because of COVID. The date is Thursday, July 30, and the location is the Mississippi Val-ley Fairgrounds, Eickelberger Pavilion. The menu, as always, is freshly picked and boiled sweet corn, pork chops, broccoli salad, cucumber salad, apple sauce, tomatoes, desserts, ice cream and beverages.

The corn is provided by North Scott FFA and will be husked by volunteers (come join us!) at 9:00 a.m. at the fair-grounds. Dr. Anita Wubbena invites members or spouses to make desserts – and to let her know: 563-940-3075.

Signup sheets will be at Friday's meet-ing, or you can sign up by notifying Deb Peterson at [email protected]. Signups as of July 21 (see list) were just 57, but many more are ex-pected. The usual turnout is 200-250, and the editor notes that many who are volunteering (see flyer on page 5 with 2020 Corn Boil Shifts) are not yet on the list of signups.

Robbinah Hakizaryan (front, left) was in Kisoro last week and gave each of our kids a beautiful new shirt that was paid for by the North Scott Interact Club, under the leadership of Jan Touney. The Interact Club held some fund-raisers and wanted our kids to have these new shirts with the new name and logo on them. The kids were thrilled and most appreciative. Schools in Uganda were closed on March 22 and we do not know when they will be allowed to reopen. Fortunately, our kids can now gather at our Center (which reopened about a month ago) and have some positive routines and activities in their days. Provided by Merle Anderson

LAST FRIDAY

Notes from last Friday: Approximately 40 members and guests attended in person and approximately 20 more by Zoom, with Jeff Martens as Zoom administrator. Dr. Brad Burt presided. John Maxwell gave the invocation and Past President Jeremy Kaiser introduced Visiting Rotarian Duncan Cameron (Naples, FL), and scholarship recipients and family members:

- Myan Herrington;- Jim and Linda Welp;- Paige and Dale Durant;- Megan and Andrea Triplett;- Grace, Joe and Rosanne Sampson;- Grace and Caroiyn Bjustrom.

President Brad announced that the Board is offering dues of $125 per quarter for the July through September quarter for those unable to attend because of COVID. "There is a provision for that. It's on an honor system," he said. Brad asked members to leave $2 on the table if they order milk or soda at a meeting, because the Steeplegate needs to charge.

Corn Boil: Chair John Maxwell expects fewer, but needs signups. A sheet was on the tables. Corn Boil informa-tion is on page 3.

Golf Outing: Tom Messer would like the committee to meet next week after the club meeting.

Past President Jeff Helms presented a banner from the Rotary club he visits in Chandler, Ariz. Past President Jeff Ashcraft said there was a significant outbreak of COVID-19 at the Handicapped Development Center's residential center where 24 of 57 residents, and 27 of 28 employees, contracted the virus. "Nearly all are a-symptomatic or have mild symptoms." Jack Schinckel extended greetings from German leaders, including President Angela Merkel.

Sergeant-at-arms Jim Smith raised $ (?) with fun fines for those who left their badge at home, those whose picture was in the newsletter, those who did not RSVP for lunch, those who haven't been on Zoom, and those who could not identify the Mystery Rotarian. Hats off to Deb Peterson who answered correctly: Nancy Glawe.

Scholarship Committee chair, Past President Charlie Jones, introduced scholarship recipients who were present and complimented them on their success, and wished them well in their plans (photo on page 1).

North Scott superintendent of schools, Joe Stutting, talked about the many decisions and complications districts face in opening schools safely for students and staff – leaving most of us with great appreciation for the difficult choices ahead. – Bill Tubbs,

Interim Editor

Rotary Quiz WinnerDeb Peterson and Paul Holzworth named last week's Mys-tery Rotarian, Nancy Glawe: "A Bettendorf High School graduate who was a kindergarten teacher. Her two children are 'Irish Twins,' born in the same year, but not actually twins. One is a family physician and one is Under Secretary of Homeland Security for the U.S. government. She has been a member of Rotary 12 years and chaired our club's Youth and Literacy committees."

This Week's Mystery RotarianThis week's Mystery Rotarian is a graduate of Northeast High School who showed the Grand Champion Market Pen of Three pigs the first time he exhibited at the county fair at age 10. He graduated from Iowa State, and began his professional career in Princeton, Iowa. He worked closely with the late banker, V.O. Figge, for many years. He once made a presentation to the Gilda's Club Board that included Ann Bancroft, Joel Gray and Mandy Patinkin – which resulted in securing the commitment of Gilda's Club to come to the Quad Cities.
